Rare Car Restoration 3: Compressions test how to

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this video we are doing a compression test on our 1.2 liter Fiat Fire engine. This is the 85 horse power 16valve version fitted to our fiat Punto, however the very same engine is used in many other fiat and fiat brand cars such as the Panda, the fiat 500, Brava, Bravo, Stilo, Lancia, Alfa romeo, and many others. This process will work for any petrol engine. The only change is dependent on their being more or less cylinders.
In this video on performing a compression test on an engine to assess it's mechanical condition. The Engine's ability to compress air is essential to the engine's health. If a petrol engine is low on compression, then it will not work as efficiently as it should and the result of this can be very bad. It is a simple but sometimes essential diagnostic procedure to perform a compression test on your petrol engine, and anyone can do this at home with very simple and basic tools in this case a cheap test kit bought from Amazon.
This video includes a little bonus of looking inside the engine to check the condition of the pistons and cylinder bore with a scope.
Tell me what you think I should do with this car going forward and find out why I ended up pressure washing the engine at nearly midnight.

Well, taking the cylinder head off would make a great video, and would allow you to clean the top of the pistons as well 😅

Did you do it on a warm or cold engine?

I’d suggest a cold engine, really you are looking to see if there is a difference between cylinders but if you do it on a warm engine then you have to contend with hot spark plugs and hot engine and risk burning yourself

@@PuntoHowto okay cool … so I’m curious whenever you have bent valves or slightly bent valves, that cylinder won’t be able to hold compression right?? I drive a mk7 gti and I know that the loud bang I heard under my hood was me jumping time.. I replaced the timing chain then later saw this video and did a compression test all cylinders were pretty much the same between 147-149 .. but the car runs like crap the car idles at 600 but after a drive it starts idling at 900 rpm so I’m just lost

@@nequanlucas2162 yes if you have bent valves then you’ll not have compression in those cylinders. That engine would be direct injection? It’s quite a lot more complex than the engine in this video I can’t really suggest what you can do to fix the problems you are having?
