COMPRESSION TEST of CYLINDERS - HIGH OIL CONSUMPTION - ENGINE FAULT - 160 tkm SERVICE - BMW F20 engine N13
#CylinderCompressionTest #HighOilConsumption #EngineFault #160tkmService #BMWF20 #BMWN13
- As in the previous episodes, I do a 160 tkm service for my BMW F20 car
- Let's continue where we left off in the last episode!
- The car currently consumes about one liter of oil per 1000 kilometers
- It's time to do a compression test on the cylinders to find out if there is something wrong there!
- Disconnect the fuel pump 20A fuse from fuse slot F165
- Drain the fuel lines at idle
- Remove the ignition coils and spark plugs
- Press the gas pedal to the bottom and crank the engine 5-10 times, or until the needle on the compression gauge stops ratcheting up
- Referring to ISTA-D, a normal compression test result is 8 to 15 bar, i.e. 116 to 217 psi
- The compression pressures of the cylinders are fine and in line
- It seems that the valve stem seals are worn and need to be replaced
- Blue smoke comes from the exhaust pipe when starting or when the car has been stationary for a short while
- The oil gets through the rubber seals of the valves into the combustion chamber of the cylinder, causing the oil to burn in the cylinder and cause blue smoke
- New valve stem seals have been ordered, so it's time to replace them!
- In the next episode I will start the project first by cleaning the fuel injectors, and after that the valve stem seals will be replaced
Let’s continue with the next episode! Stay tuned!

Plus, this is a nice hobby for myself and at the same time I have the opportunity to save a lot of money by doing all the maintenance myself!
I’m not a professional with cars or motorcycles, I just want to learn how to do things myself.
If you do this service yourself, always check the correct instructions in the official service manuals. This is just my way of doing it!

Love your video's. Did you ever consider that the oil consumption could be caused by the turbochargers turbine seal?

I watched all your videos about the f20. This information in such a professional way is priceless. Thank you for your effort and uploading all these videos for free. I'm using your videos as guide to do all the maintenance jobs for my n13 engine. Pls upload your progress with the oil consumption issue. I have the same issue 1l/1000Km. Thank you

@@jonathanphilippe4276 I had the same issue, solved with valve stem seals. If you let it run at idle for a few minutes and then give it gas, it would throw a cloud of blue smoke. That's when you know the valve stem seals are done.

Question relating to n43. I'm doing head gasket on n43b16 but same thing as your vids. I was wondering if I can just put in timing set once I have TDC of piston 1 and leave it untill I put the head back on. Not have to find timing again, could this work? I'm 20 and got a 316i for €700. Your a gift from God. Thank you sir

My car (BMW F20 with N13 engine) is having numerous oil leakages (Vacuum Pump, Capsules, Gearbox and Engine connectors, etc). I was told that the compression is too high and hence engine spilling oil all over the place causing leakages. Car blowing bad smoke as well. I have been told that the solution would be to change valve stem seals. Would you guys have an opinion on this ?

hi. there Does BMW F20 (N13), HIGH OIL CONSUMPTION the key factor is the piston oil scrape rings design issue, not only just replace the valve stem seals?

Quick question when doing this test one by one do you hand tighten they spark plug just abit or torque them to spec as you do one by one or you do that once all test is done.

I have perfect compression ( tested with original machine BMW ) but huge oil consumption. They told me problème is valve stem jam, not compression . So even if compression is good , you didn’t found the problem

Did you check the pcv valve ?? Mine was leak and took a lot of oil. But i think it's the valve stem seals. Here in Holland van Biezen autotechnics can tell you more about this.

I think that the oil consumption will not end with only valve valve stem seal replacement. I had/ have the same problem. I replaced: chain, rocker cover, valve stem seals, compression test, cleaned inlet valves, and have still oil usage 1Liter 5W40 every 3000-3500km. If i switch back to 5W30 i will have again 1Liter usage every 1000-1500km. BMW 114i from 2013 with 156K on it.

Hey Jani, You in fact have the valve steam seals f**** up, but that's not what's throwing a code. If you wanna do valve stems first, I would recommend to change the rectangring of the shafts while you are at here, as someone said in the previous video. Example : kzread.info/dash/bejne/hnel2riqgq-XdtY.html Good luck !
