Compound Bow and Japanese Longbow (Yumi) At Full Draw

The "How-To" Gun Girl Emily Houston Monroe got to shoot with a master of Japanese longbow (kyudo). The yumi he used is a traditional Japanese longbow. I am shooting the Bowtech Eva Shockey Signature Series compound bow.

The lower part of Japanese bow is short. This is because this bow is expected to use on a horse. It allows bushi (samurai) to attack far from enemy and fast. This is one of the factors that Japan was able to prevent Mongolian’s invasion. I’m Japanese and my English might be wrong.

There are really many factors to consider regarding the fact that the Japanese army defeated the Mongolian army. (Of course, this does not mean that there were no losses on the Japanese side.) (Of course, there were no losses on the Japanese side.) First, Japan had a complete and well-organized organization called the Kamakura Shogunate, which was responsible for police, military, and political affairs. 2. In fact, the majority of the Mongolian army was composed mainly of Koryo people, who had been ruled by the Mongols on the continent, and were not aggressive against the Japanese.

Everything about compound bows is mechanically superior, they're designed by engineers with all sorts of computer modeling and modern materials but the traditional wooden bow still has a certain appeal to it. Given that the average draw weight of a traditional long bow is between 81 and 130 lbs, I'd say it's pretty impressive he was able to draw and hold the bow at full draw for that long. Compounds have drastically lower draw weights and cams to take the majority of that weight for the shooter.

Right down to basics the yumi (sorry if I’m spelling that wrong) was a horse archery bow but continued service as a infantry variant thus has significantly less draw strength and hence power to accommodate those who would need to control a horse and fire a bow at the same time now onto compound it’s a modernized English longbow (the English long bow was useless as a horse archery weapon but had enough power to punch through many armors made at the time) looking at the compound bow we made it easier to learn due to more variants and sizes and it has essentially transitioned into a purely target and hunting weapon to end it off if you ask me I’ll take the compound bow as it is easy to pick up and learn in a month because let’s be honest your likely hunting in which case if I’m ridding a horse I’m bringing my 45 lever action 99% of the time not an outdated bow that people won’t let advance technological.

Incorrect facts about draw weight. Yumi went up to 150#. The ELB was on fact used on horse back. Finally moubt archers historical shot bows in the same draw weight ranges as the ELB. Composite bows could be lighter than ELB but still out performed them due to superior designs. Both the Qing and Yumi used heavier hitting arrows than the ELB.
