Inspire the liars is a good starting place for DGD, it’s their most viewed music video on KZread. Summertime gladness or Young Robot might be good songs to react to if you want more funky, upbeat songs. You really can’t go wrong with any song of theirs tho. Also I think you’d be very impressed by Eidola, they’re a band in a similar vein to DGD. Check out Tetelestai by them.

Love the reaction. If you want another "standard" DGD song that really shows off Tilian's vocals you should check out "We Own the Night". If you want one with a very different one you should check out "Prisoner".

Man of the year is man favorite song by DGD and would love for you to check it out but DGD puts out almost nothing but good jams so take your pick lol

Man Of the Year by them is killer. Just a heavy hitter where the entire band lets loose and really gets aggressive. Not as technical or noodly, more of a metal core vibe than anything else on this album. Check it out!

A friend of mine who majored in music theory listened to Man of the Year and said that, on a technical level, it's probably one of the best songs ever written.

Chucky vs The Giant Tortoise would be a great second reaction to this band. You can check out Erra ( Breach , Eye of God or Dementia ) , should be worth listening to them if you like technical display

My dude I'm loving the reviews and all the dgd content. Their band has gone through several lineups and sound changes while still retaining a similarity, mostly around will swan's guitarwork. I'd love to see more reviews to get to see a variety of their old and new work and see what you think of their growth and different sounds.

YES DGD! One of my favourite bands. So weird and random and still kind of cohesive.Lyrics and videos are allways so random and the instrumental work is on another lvl. I think you would really enjoy their song "Evaporate".

As far as "any bands that sound like this" Bands like The Fall of Troy, Red Museum, Chiodos, Strawberry Girls & A Lot Like Birds would also be great choices to check out. DGD's lead guitarist Will Swan has his own record label called Blue Swan Records & most bands under that (ie. Stolas, Hail the Sun, Sianvar, etc.) fall under this type of Post-Hardcore/Math-Rock sound which has been playfully dubbed Swancore lol Most artists from this subgenre have connections to each other too which is also kinda fun to map out (like they share a lot of members from each other's bands)

Strawberry's Wake can give you some of that difference for the screamer, Jon. I was extremely happy to hear him scream in a poppy-style part of the song. Even considering getting those lyrics tattooed

I smiled so hard watching you react to them for the first time. Enjoy the DGD rabbit hole!! They’ve had multiple singers throughout their career and every phase is great in its own way.

The DGD reaction finally came! Thanks, Brian! I'm glad you liked them and hope you'll return with a different song in the future. The band has gone through a bunch of lineup changes, but they've always had the clean/unclean, dual singer dynamic. If you listen to a song off of "And I Told them I Invented New Romans", you'll get a taste of their roots. You should really check out the band Issues. I recommend Hero, Home Soon, or Beautiful Oblivion. They somehow combine pop/r&b, funk, and metal in the most perfect way.

I’ve been a fan since 2010. They’ve had three different lead singers and so many albums. Do another video on their latest album please!!!

I love how Jon always something going on in the music videos thats just so comical in comparison to the rest of the band. everyones having fun but he's having the most fun out of all of them haha

One of my favorite bands. All their songs always have a groovy feel. They also sound great live.

Royal Beggars or Doomsday would DEFINITELY be his best introduction to the band. All songs are bomb, but those would resonate the most I think.

So glad you liked them, they're by far one of my favorite bands. If I could recommend another song by them I think you'd really like Evaporate, it features a vocalist from another band, Eidola, who is similar to DGD. Keep up the great content!

Will Swan is an absolute legend. I’m not sure anyone can ever do what he has done for over 10 years with this band. Incredible really.

You’ll find every element of this song in almost EVERY song they’ve done recently. Their past is a little hazy but it’s been pretty much all hits since adding Tillian Pearson (clean vocalist). Great review! Son of Robot, Count Bassy, or Head Hunter are all amazing, check them out!

I always say the thing I love so much about them is the juxtaposition of Tillian's beautiful angelic singing and Jon's just brash abrupt screaming

Been listening to the band for almost 10 years and have really liked most of what they do. They are just so unique and talented!

That's a very fair analysis. I'd encourage you to check out more of their material. They have had quite a few vocalists, so it'd be awesome to hear your take on their progress through the years.

That's interesting. Being that the vocalist tend to have a heavier presence in most songs I'm curious as to how the vocalists end up influencing the sound, or at least the soundscape, of their music.

I admire the tact you use when describing the song. Not stepping on toes :) Really good and inciteful video! I'm glad you didn't pay any mind to the video lol, I always wanted a musical take on this song.

Aah, rad review dude! Love to see more people getting into DGD 🤩 I'd definitely recommend Eidola (my intro to them was Transcendentium, Pt. II: Fourth Temple and I loooved it), Wolf & Bear (Deleto or Red Hen maybe), Here's to Now (Rose Gold), and Shrezzers (I love E.M.O.J.I.Q.U.E.E.N)

You want complex, do check out Man of The Year by them, that song is so chaotic and beautiful at the sametime.

I saw/heard polyphia for the first time at a DGD concert. Ive been hooked every since

Loved how in depth your review went into examining the song, it's wonderful seeing you dissect and criticize what makes the particulars of what makes up the song's sound. If you ever revisit this band I would recommend Alex English off of their self-titled album.

Sweet I got a shout out! I would agree their screamer doesn't really change it up as much as I like but he makes it up with weird nonsensical lyrics that I find entertaining. This song/album definitely puts Tilian's vocals on display. Will Swan writes multiple guitar riffs and layers them in the studio and they have a road guitarist on tour (usually the guitarist/vocalist from a band called Eidola) Thanks for the reaction! Been checking out other music/bands on the channel. Keep up the great content!

First of all, thanks for the reaction. Second- I've been listening to this band for a while now, but as with a lot of groups I listen to in cycles, this listen-through here made me focus on something new. The instrumentation in the chorus (specifically at 2:13 going on) is tighter than a siamese twin. 😤 Top shelf.

The Receiving End of Sirens - This Armistice....One of the three singers/guitar players is the lead dude in The Dear Hunter. Amazingly good post hardcore/experimental band.

So, lately I fell down a rabbit hole of watching reaction videos. This was a great one though. It had a lot more substance than the "that was cool" "I liked that " reactions that make up lots of other reaction videos. I appreciate the content and thought you put into listening to this.

You have the most hype comment section i love it. I would love to see you react to all the stuff their talking about. More DGD, Eidola, Erra, Im seeing it all here. Hope to see more, looks like everyone is leading you to some exciting stuff!! I like what you said about DGD but youd be surprised to hear how "generic and consistent" they sound even with different singers. I love the Happiness album and the Downtown Battle Mountain II album. But their albums with Tilian as the singer are incredible as well, might want to check out Evaporate (from Artificial Selection) if you want to get a good taste of where theyve come too lately. They both have different singers and the screamer sounds a bit different in both of them. Very very interesting band, worth diving more into if you want.

I like is critiques in this video. I will say though, I don’t feel the vocal aspect is generic. I feel dance was definitely in the first boom of post hardcore to have clean and dirty vocals with the different vocal sounds

That's definitely one of the "problems" (if you can call it that) of listening to this stuff now. I don't have the perspective of when this was new, I can only look at it all through the lens of the present.

Not sure if you’ve ever listened to Igorrr. He and his group released a new album SPIRITUALITY AND DISTORTION. my favorites are “Lost in Intrspection” and “Overweight Poesy”. If not in the channel I definitely recommend checking out the entire album on your own. Thanks for uploading in this crazy time. If you want to go for a ride.... you have to listen to "Here Comes The Winner". That songs takes you on so many side journeys musically. Absolutely dig these guys. Very talented band.

They have full instrumental versions of nearly all their songs. I'd definitely say check out some of the instrumentals.

Hey man. I love DGD, Blue Dream is great, but their Whatever I Would Say is Royal Ocean EP is fantastic all the way through. If you like them, I’d recommend Chiodos- Baby You Wouldnt Last a Minute in the Creek or Sianvar- 1100 Days. Also though, I think you would really enjoy This Town Needs Guns- If I sit still, maybe I’ll get out of here; TTNG is one of my favorite bands of all time. They’re definitely math rocky, but it’s one of the few songs I can listen to on repeat and never get tired of

You actually guessed their songwriting style very well haha. Tilian has said in the past that he takes the weird ass shit that Will Swan and Matt come up with and attempt to make it listenable

A night at the spleen by Closure in Moscow is awesome

Circa Survive - The Difference Between Medicine And Poison Is In The Dose Or the song Mandala from the same album which almost has flowing/graceful sound to it. I think it's 4/4 but they do some weird drum shuffles during the verses to make it sound like a different time signature

The song you want from this band with the a lot of use for the screaming and cleans together is Man of the Year. It also gets quite technical.

Love this band, just discovered them recently. Check out Panegyrist - Ophidian Crucifix for some interesting avant-garde black metal.

If you liked this, check out A Lot Like Birds - Connector and Eidola - Houses Movement III: Rust/Rebuild (or literally anything by either of those bands, those are just two examples I personally find interesting)

Vocally, this somewhat reminds me of Emery. You should check out "The Cheval Glass."

I always love seeing people who recommend Emery. It reminds me that im not the only one who knows of these truly great guys. One thing I love about them is that they are way more complex than they sound and they really do get experimental without sounding weird and staying very accessible

Son of Robot has less focus on scream vocals, but the guitar work, the melodic vocals and drums are very nice. You should really check it out. Great video man!

Look up "swancore". It's the easiest catch all for this branch of post hardcore

Jon Mess (the unclean vocalist) actually does add so much more to this band. He plays a huge role in the songwriting and coming up with crazy yet meaningful lyrics

You need to do more dgd songs to understand them completely. Especially when they had 2 clean vocals before Tillian. But imo Tillian is the best fit for the band and theyre reaching their peak potential rn. Can't wait for Afterburner!

You should also check out the Temple trilogy songs by Eidola from their second album.

For showing off DGD's talent I think Man of the Year is the best to go with. And And I Told You I Invented Times New Roman is a good song to see where they started from (Jonny was the clean singer at that point not Tilian, but Jon (unclean), Will (Guitar), & Matt (Drums) were all in the band then as well).

Jon Mess (the screamer) may not be an AMAZING vocalist, but the reason I think he is one of the best in the game is because he is the most CONSISTENT vocalist out there. The past 5 years he has been fantastic on every single track that he sings on. Jon Mess is a GOD!!!!

DGD is amazing! Their first album has more of them trading off between their clean and unclean vocalists imo. Would recommend "Lemon Meringue Tie", It's Safe To Say You Dig The Backseat", and "Open Your Eyes And Look North". The way their first 4 albums are mixed are completely different. You can hear evvvvverthing. So I would recommend their older stuff for that reason alone. That and the earlier albums have more distinct style change between them. Can probably chalk that up to the the lineup changes. They have settled in with a more consistent sound that reaches a much wider audience with their current vocalist (Tillian). But they always come full of surprises Mothership is my favorite album with him but their newest album Afterburner might take that title. Going to throw out "Deception" just cause it needs some love. "Man of the Year" is great too. "Nothing Shameful" feat Andrew Wells from Afterburner.

I'd recommend you check out the singles from the rest of their albums. Their sound changes for every album, but their style remains true. All around great musicians. I recommend you look into Blue Swan Records. Jon Mess ( screamo guy ) has changed his vocal approach over the years. His lyrical game is kind of insane, Jon's lyrics kinda make me forget what life is actually supposed to be like.

I really enjoyed your take on this - I agree with the idea of the vocalists sort of tying everything together that wouldn't be necessarily accessible otherwise. All DGD songs are great. I would say that they've gotten better at putting songs together on their most recent albums, if that's even possible. Prisoner is a just fantastic tune and Strawberry's Wake is a riot. Jon Mess's screams have also gotten much better IMO, he can express and emote better than most screamers. Would recommend listening to Prisoner, Man of the Year, Bloodsucker, Suspended in this Disaster.

Maybe you should check the "Omniphobia" song by Sianvar. It has the same guitarist as DGD and the other band members are talented as well.

If you want more fry vocals you should react on 'Man if the year'. It's from the same album as 'Inspire the liars'
