you could use this to make a spiral slot for example just set it up like you would thread, with very slow spindle speed but high feed. i own a tool for connecting steel reinforcement for concrete, that uses a rod with a spiral slot and a handle with a ball and a spring inside, so when you pull the handle the rod rotates and twists the wire attatched to it, to connect the steel pieces
