I love your proud mama vibes. I used to live in Vancouver as well, and started a collective house with some friends there. We had a reasonably priced run down place with a landlord that footed the material bill (as long as we did the work), and it was SO MUCH FUN. The feeling of getting it just how you want it, and the pride in having done in yourself is the best! I also had really handy parents with tools and it was definitely the only way it was possible. I live in Montreal now, and am not able/don't need to do renovation projects at the same capacity, but making things and nesting is still my favourite! I love being on this journey, reminiscing, and living vicariously through you!

Love what you did with the closet! I feel you with the coathangers. I hate crammed hanging clothes! I was thinking, with the part of the closet where the pipe is; you could get a small chest or something to put in that corner for your mittens and hats and stuff; or to put away like big bulky sweaters and stuff in the summer to free up space on the shelves.

Ariel: lets everyone know her family has building knowledge, owns tools already, and helps her. Ariel: films with wet hair in casual clothing and crocs to stain shelves. Ariel: talks about the price of what she's doing. WE LOVE A TRANSPARENT QUEEN. Thanks for being realistic and honest. I love artsy shots as much as the next person, but it's nice to have things balanced out with actual information about what goes into things like this. Home ownership- and ANY kind of remodel, cost so much time and money and require a lot of knowledge and effort! LOVING this series :D Also the pink floor? HECK YEAH

I know!!! I was following a tutorial in inches the other day and decided it might be simpler to follow the inches mesurements, rather than have to convert every single mesurement to centimeters... I had a headache by the time I finished the tutorial, with all the 1/16ths I had to add and substract.
and just like that, this week got way better

I just hung things because that's the fittings the builder put in my closet. One quarter long things rod, one quarter shelves. And two quarters with double rods for shorter things. But I do agree shelves are good. I'd be happy to add more instead of two rods one above the other. All the shorter hanging clothes drag on the bottom shelf. 🥴
kind of random, but i really liked the editing of this video (the music choice, drawing of the closet, etc)

I live in Texas. There are plently of old houses in rural towns. Yall should take a look at some
if I've learned anything from renovating an old house, it's "hit it til it's loose."
Motion sensor lights are a game-changer in closets. We installed some in ours a while ago and were so thankful we did! Your closet looks great!
The big shelf.... I would use it for totes (lidded to keep out dust and labeled so you know what is in it) that you put out of season stuff in. During the winter, summer stuff (shorts, tank tops) would get put in there. Then during the summer, use the tote for your scarves, gloves/mittens and other winter stuff. That way you only have on your easily accessible shelves only what you would be using during that season.
The shelves are GORGEOUS! When u were talking about not needing hanging space I was like... God I'm the opposite... But the fun of diy is making a space work well for you!!

Of course, we here in KZread Land are curious to know what are your preliminary plans for a home library?
It must feel so satisyfying to have a project come together so quickly when so many other things, I assume, are more long-term works in progress.
This looks great! I will say that anyone with a small wardrobe might enjoy hanging their clothes. As someone with fewer than 20 (typically 10-15) items per season of non-athletic-clothing I find it a lot easier to hang. This is purely based on preference and I love that you came up with a wonderful solution that fits your needs.
All I want is for Ariel to keep living her best life so I can live vicariously through it 😍
don't let anybody's comments get you down!! you are working so hard for something that means so much to you, and it's turning out beautiful!! keep on keeping on. :)
When your house is finished your gonna feel so proud of this house 🏡
When diy home renovation and booktube are your favorite things to watch on KZread and one of your favorite booktubers is doing both with a style that I really identify with✨✨✨
For the extra space baskets!! Baskets everywhere, makes organising everything so much easier. Is the painted floor permanent or temporary, because won't that chip and scuff really quickly. I'm sure the closet will be fine but the bedroom might cause issues
I love that the floor is pink! I never would have considered coloured flooring.
Props to you for doing all of this and still get your nails done haha 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
That closet is SO cute. Never thought I would be living vicariously through a closet makevover 😅
Lol at you laughing after saying 'hardware store haul' even though that's exactly the kind of content I came to see 😹 I've been loooving these videos!
i’m cycling through all of your videos and this is the best part of an old house!!! i’ve redone two closets in our house and if we bought the house with the closets how they are i would not have such an appreciation for them. i saw them as old and gross and not functional and then put in work to make them beautiful and work for us and now i have SO MANY good feelings when i see the closets!! i love it!
That has to be the most terrifying linoleum I've ever seen. LOL "Shelves? In a closet." I actually like this. I use those fiber bins on cheap cube shelves for most of my clothes that don't need to be hung up. They work well, can get brought out and picked through, then set back in order without much fuss. (yes, I'm commenting on your videos because it helps pay you... wordy words throw pennies at cool project).
22:55 “There’s just nothing to complain about in this life, is there?” Loved that! Great job on the closet. I’m so glad I found your channel! 😊
I am living for these.
Aaahhhh it looks so good! :D I totally agree with you RE designing your space for your needs, it's like THE BEST feeling ever. I pretty much exclusively wear dresses, so I'm all about the hanging space, but I have so many long sleeve tops it's unreal haha it took like 2 years before our lovely landlords/bae's parents made some built in wardrobes for us and omg... SO satisfying
I spent the morning watching the impeachment trial in USA. I live in USA. Boy did I need this! I was so glad it popped up today. Good job. Good form and great function!
I love how u shouted out ur family bc I always wonder with people who do extensive diy or renos how they’re doing all these things so casually and then I’m like wait why don’t I know how to do these things, is it so easy to learn?! But most people have some help or at least a lot of advice! Or someone who taught them at some point. So anyway I’m gonna go hang these shelves I bought like 3 years ago lol
I would suggest on top of the coats, put in some woven baskets (more breathable and aesthetically pleasing than plastic tubs and you can thrift them often for pretty cheap) and have one for the board games, and another for the accessories you mentioned (I would put all the wintry stuff there like hats, gloves/mittens, and scarves). I also would recommend folding the cardigans instead of hanging them (protects the shoulders from becoming misshapen and also adds more space on the hanging rack). The pink flooring is really cute!
I never expected to watch a home improvement project on a booktuber's channel. Needless to say...I'm going to watch every minute! Can't wait for the next video!
It looks sooo good!! I’m the total opposite though. I would hang everything if I could. I absolutely HATE digging through drawers to find what I need!
So envious of the amount of storage space you have! That is one thing our home is lacking. Love the shelving!!
Your closet idea is not only impressive, but inspiring as well. This is the most practical example of creating a space that "what works for you." I very much look forward to your future diy home projects.
So I was checking out my Goodreads challenge progress just this morning, saw that lavender color and wondered how the house was going and now here you are! Looks like you're having a great time! I'm glad thing are working out well so far. And having your parents right there as a resource is so invaluable! I look forward to seeing more. Well don!
I think the outcome added a couple of years to my life expectancy, it just looks amazing. Well done and thanks as always for sharing!
Whatever that original flooring was in there was creepy AF 😅
YES!! FINALLY someone said it!! hanging clothes is such a chore and just kinda ugly/clunky no matter your closet. hangers are annoying and hanging clothes overall is super annoying. so glad to find someone who shares the same thought process. and the pops out of the closet in the intro and outro are just so funny to me. icing on the cake
Great closet remake! Only a cautionary comment -- whenever pulling up any lino and breaking it into pieces, you should wear a mask -- it might have asbestos in it. I'm renovating an 1867 farmhouse and the hallway, kitchen and pantry all had lino (with oak floors beneath) --we had it tested and it all had asbestos. The flooring in the pantry was not glued down so I took it up much as you did -- but wore a mask and gloves. We are having a company take up the rest as it is glued down. The cost for the amount being removed we felt was reasonable ($2000). I could have done it following parameters outlined in "how to" spaces but they will be in and do it all in one day so seemed a better use of time.
i'm so impressed. also it must feel so satisfying to work on this yourself and see the fruits of your labor. i cant wait to see more!
I am very happy with all that you have done ...from purchase of the home to the closet makeover. I appreciate that your pleased with the most humble makeover tasks. We have been owners for more than 22 years and still working on our home.
I can’t wait to see how your new house progresses. It makes me want to restore an old house. I have kind of always wanted to but your joy makes me want to try
Closet looks fabulous! Love the white, pink and dark walnut colour palette 🎀👗🥾👖
Your mini closet is a combination of beauty and happiness! Your closet has made every piece of clothing meaningful hahaha♥️♥️♥️♥️
I loved this video! Excellent job! I wish I was as handy as you are, but a little word of advice for you. Wear a mask during all renovations. Most old houses were made using asbestos which is very harmful and usually causes illness, cancer, and even death when inhaled too much. Any time you tear up anything wear a mask. Unless they don’t use asbestos in Canada which I’m not sure of but I know for sure here in the USA old homes were built using it. I worry about you and your family needlessly exposing yourselves. Now that I’ve finished lecturing you (I hope you don’t mind) thanks for posting your renovation projects. I look forward to watching many more.
I think it's the sweetest thing that you and the whole fam are working on this home together
It looks so awesome!! I LOVE the pink floor and pipe. I also used shelves for some of my clothing in my closet and find that baskets help me organize undies, socks, swimwear, pjs, and sheets.
