Thank you for your comments. That smoke did make it down to Savannah a couple of weeks ago but it never mixed down to the surface but was passing through a mid altitude levels. I see another round of smoke just to our north again. Well, my sky is clear, which means the moon is waxing gibbous ... ha

Hi Jason. Thanks. I just love these dual narrow band filters. They add so much joy in astrophotography. I am beginning to wonder if they will be competing with the monochrome cameras? Your dry heat at least gives way to some decent 'Seeing' conditions. But when your monsoon winds develop, I will bet that humidity will increase. I have had beneficial rains and somewhat mild temperatures in the garden and as you can see, the dahlias have responded well. It is now heating up and I just hope they don't shrivel up too much. Say hi to Isaac for me.

Stunning garden - I love my Optolong Ultimate - does a great job of nebulosity.

The image with the L-Ultimate is excellent, no comparison to the filter free image. Your Dahlias are magnificent I must plant some of those, my roses are looking good though

Thank you, Clive. I love those dahlias, however, they really don't like the Savannah heat. I plant them in areas where they DON'T get full sun, else they will burn up. I also mulch them generously. I never have any luck with roses. Those filters sure do make astrophotography more exciting in area of light pollution and nights with bright moonshine.

Wow, just had to post to thank you for the info on how to engage the GPU to do the calculations for the StarExterminator and NoiseExterminator plugins for Pixinsight and Photoshop. I forgot I had set my Deep Sky Stacker software to 2X drizzle, which quadruples the size of the image. So that's part of the reason it took over 4 hours to run StarExterminator on my images. But even set to 1X, it still took over an HOUR fpr a standard 6K X 4K image! But thanks to this video and you linking me where to find the instructions I was able to get the GPU to perform these tasks now. On my laptop with a modest nVidia GeForce 1050 GTX board it knocked the processing time from over an hour to just 5 to 10 minutes, depending on the image. That's with the large overlap of 50%. With 20% overlap it's just under 3 minutes. On my Desktop with a GTX 2070S it's less than a minute at 50% overlap and 35 seconds with 20% overlap! This is LIFE changing. I almost bought a new laptop hoping to get better performance. What's ironic, without your insight, I could have dropped $3K on a laptop with a RTX 4070 GPU and not done as well as my 2019 does with the 1050 GPU actually engaged. Once again, thanks a ton and for all you do for the AP community!

Thank you, Dave. I am guessing you are not getting much astronomical dark skies at the moment. I get about 6-7 hours of it here at my latitude of 32N this time of the year ... from around 10 PM to 5 AM

@@HeavenlyBackyardAstronomy Correct Pat, about 1/2 to 1 hour of usable total darkness at the moment, then add moon, clouds :). That's why these filters are essential. Its amazing what one can achieve even in these poor conditions. I have a particularly good example of a L-extreme 2 inch filter. I love it.

Hi Perry, Sorry to hear about that smoke. Well, at least it's around along with the bright moon. Hopefully, the smoke will clear out after the moon reaches full and begins to wane. Do you have any filters?

Coincidentally I began imaging this nebula for the first time last night using the SVBony SV 220 dual narrowband filter (similar to the L-extreme but I have the L-Pro and really enjoyed seeing the results of both types of filters. Thanks for watching my video, Jac. All the images were at 300 second subframes at a gain of 100 (ZWO ASI 071) excep the No Filter ... I had to lower the gain to 50 as there was too much light pollution coming in.

Excellent comparison and workflow Pat. I recently purchased an L-eNhance filter for my 533MC. Although due to the bad weather in the Caribbean I have only been able to take individual photos of 4 and 5 minutes, the results was incredible. I'm on Bortle 5-6, but I've never captured nebular emissions with such power. Halpha reds are intense. I tried with nebulae like Eta Carinae, NGC 6334, 6357, M8 and M20 and the results almost make me scream with excitement hahaha

Hi Jesus. That L-eNhance is an awesome filter. I like it better than the Ultimate and the Extreme because it allows some of the hydrogen Beta light to pass through, which is in the blue end of the spectrum. With those targets, I wouldn't doubt awesome results. I am a bit to far north to catch Eta Carinae and am barely are to catch M8 and M20 due to trees to my south. Hi Pat, Very interested to see the filter comparison, as I have the lpro and enhance filters. I use mostly the lpro ( in bortle 5 conditions) and find it very good, will make use of the enhance now after viewing your very excellent video, especially when the moon is about. Thanks Ray

Hi Ray, Yes, these new filters greatly improve the ability to view targets in light polluted areas and during bright moon nights. I find it even helps when there are thin clouds passing by, which surprised me.

Another target you captured in these images that can help assess their quality is the Soap Bubble Nebula -- it's in the upper right and I can barely see it in most of your images, but I think it's best in the L-ulitimate, which is no surprise.

@@HeavenlyBackyardAstronomy Besides all that, it's one of my favorite targets. Very delicate. Interestingly it was only discovered in 2007, by an amateur astrophotographer!

Another great video Pat with a very scientific experiment. I have the Optolong L Extreme filter that I've very been happy with. Is the ultimate even more narrow?

Thanks, Leon. It seems to me that the Extreme allows a bit wider bandwith in the O3 and the H-alpha over the Utimate. However, those and the eNhance along with the Pro are awesome filters.

Always appreciate your videos. Just picked up a few more tips on how to use some of the pixinsight tools I haven't been taking advantage of. But what REALLY blew me away was the performance on the star exterminator process. I have been using the 50% overlap which takes over 3 hours to do a full size image on an ZWO 2600MC, just tested it without the large overlap and still looks like it will take about an hour to complete, you knocked it out in seconds! I have an Nvidia graphics card on my laptop and did my best to make sure I have it running on pixinisight, but still not getting anything close to what you have. My laptop is from 2019, it's the got the intel i7-9750h processor at 2.6ghz and the Nvidia GTX 1050. Am I missing something on how to get that performance boost. I was thinking of switching to apple just for this reason, the star exterminator just takes too damn long.

I pick up the technique for connecting my graphic card to Pixinsight through Cuiv, the Lazy Geek. He has a tutorial on how to set up your system. It must be NVidia-type graphics system. My computer is Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-9700K CPU @ 3.60GHz 3.60 GHz running Windows 10. Got myself L-Ultimate to go with my 8HD and ASI2600MC pro. I began first with M101 and the supernova really popped out on that one, but the galaxy was underwhelming. I thought my filter was wrong because I thought in 10min exposures and 300 gain I should be getting much more light. Then I pointed at crescent nebula at half exposure and... Like a magic. It was better than I could ever imagine. M101 is a very elusive target for me because of F/10 aperture I use. Considering if it's still worth continuing my little M101 narrowband project. Still too much noise.

The L-Ultimate is great for nebulae but not so for galaxies. The L-Pro is great for galaxies and only decent for nebulae. Thank you for watching my video.

Thank you. My bortle value is about 4.5 looking to the ESE - S- SW but high as I look toward Savannah to my NE through the NW. Ican see the Milky Way in the summer months

Is there a reason you use colour calibration instead of SPCC? My understanding is that it essentially replaces it.

Can I please know how long an exposure & gain setting on your camera did you use for the ultimate filter. I recently imaged this on a dark site with the L extreme and it was a disaster. None of the data could be used. My scope used was a 115mm triplet (800mm focal length) / camera an ASi2600MC Pro & filter an Optolong L Enhanced. I did 300s x 30 Subs with a gain set at 101. Please help. Thanks.

Hi Alfred, Were you able to stack the images? A lot of time after stacking, the stacked image appears black in Photoshop but processing it in PixInsight show color after I perform the autostretch.

Great images! Seems i have to empty my wallet... Be aware that the pollen from lilies are poisonous to cats.
