I see they were trying not to make more than the most obvious modifications to their standard Titanic kit. For instance, Olympic (1911) had a different wing bridge cabs than Titanic: Olympic's being more flush with the sides where Titanic's were extended out to allow the officers and crew to look aft over the length of the ship more easily. The bridge wheel house between the sisters was also different: Titanic's was flat while Olympic (1911) was rounded.

Yep, other than the hull there is zero differences in the pieces to the kit. Still, I suppose it's better than nothing. When I start building Olympic I'll be leaving certain pieces out for this very reason to try and make it as close to accurate as I can.

@@allamericantravels Yeah, those are just a couple obvious ones. But there's easily more than 2-dozen that could be listed.... - There was a different air vent arrangement around the funnels. - The top of Olympic's breakwater was painted brown while Titanic's was white - Olympic's bridge roof was painted white while Titanic's was bare planking (or possibly painted grey). The list goes on and on. At the 1:700 scale, I don't know if you'd even want to do the finer differences. At that point, you're looking at scratch building and or brass etching after market kits.

@@mikedicenso2778 Yeah, at 1/700 trying to make parts from scratch seems a bit much. There are conversion parts to make Britannic, but none that I'm aware of for Olympic. At the very least, I can get the paint scheme right with the bridge roof. As for the breakwater, I'll have to paint the whole thing one color, or the other. I'll probably just keep it white. For Titanic's bridge roof, I painted it grey with a white trim.

@@allamericantravels Don't know if you get this, the YT algorithm likes to shadowblock anything it perceives as spam. Scalemates does make an etched brass aftermarket kit for this model.

Built the three sisters in one go. The Olympic model only has the modified hull but very little of the other differences such as the curved wheel house. Other than that the kits are identical, hence the Olympic kit states its in her 1911 configuration. Less modification. It would be cool if the kit was made for later refits or her WW! service. You can get parts to make a Britannic easily enough, I've done it myself, so Olympic accurizing parts should be somewhere.

Britannic is on my agenda, and I've been ordering the custom parts from a company called Shapeways to make the conversion. I'm hoping to have Titanic finished before the end of this month. After that, it's on to Olympic then Britannic!

Thank you for this video. Although I prefer 1/350 scale I found it very informative. I would also highly recommend the channel "Oceanliner Designs" for everyone interested in this topic!

Glad you liked it! I too prefer the 1/350 scale. Unfortunately Olympic was only ever made in this scale, so in order to get all 3 ships in the same scale, this is the way to go. I'm also a big fan of Mike's channel, and have been a subscriber for a good while!

So do I. Since we don’t have a Britannic model though, I’m in the process of converting another copy of this Titanic model into Britannic.

Olympics officers quarters where "cut off" near the bridge so the bridge looks more rektangular on the Olympic while it looks square on Titanic. (I would recommend looking at deck plans to understand better)🙂

Thanks for this info, I wasn't aware of this change. I'll look into it and see if it's a change that I can make on the model. I've finished Titanic and I'm working on Olympic.

@@allamericantravels olympic also had a chimney in front of the second class entrance on the boat deck which was for venting out smoke from the fireplace in the smoking room one floor below. on titanic there is only one pipe leading directly to funnel 4. Haha I only want your model as accurate as possible!🤣

lol thanks, I appreciate it! I’ve got most of the boat deck constructed, but if I can find the deck plans and see if it’s not to big of a change, I’ll make the modification. After this I’ll be converting a Titanic kit to Britannic, and that’s shaping up to be a nightmare! 🤣🤣

I think it's ridiculous that they took Olympic out of production, especially when you consider that the hull pieces are the only pieces that are different from the Titanic kit.
