Olympic's scrapping was not due to this collision, though. She was scrapped because the merger of White Star and Cunard meant that the combined Cunard White Star Line had far more ships than it needed for regular transatlantic service, and her ocean liner design meant that she wasn't an efficient hull for a full-time cruise ship.

the smaller ships wreck has been found for 50 odd years it is remarkably intact, it was NOT cut in half like in the animation. The Olympic just rolled over her. The Olympic had slowed down considerably, only travelling at about 3-4 miles per hr when they collided so it was not a violent crash
Olympic was still standing, and not scrapped. We would’ve had the perfect titanic replica
The Olympic actually didn't cut the ship in half. It ripped it open and careened it out of the way, where it foundered immediately, but it wasn't cut in half.

Including the USS Arizona. In 1934 she collided with and sank a fishing trawler near Cape Flattery. Then in late 1941 the battleship USS Oklahoma collided with her off Hawaii and punched a hole in her, requiring repairs in drydock at Pearl Harbor. Had she not been forced to remain in Pearl Harbor while the repairs were completed she would've returned to the mainland and missed her appointment with an armor-piercing bomb on December 7th.
We actually have one of Nantucket’s twin sister in my home town retired on our shores with the same picture of Olympic running into that light house ship
White star line had a habit of hitting the few things in the ocean that they shouldn't.
Guess they learned their lesson with titanic to not turn and just ram whatever was in their way.

There were times when I was on the Nantucket Lightship in the late 1975 that when a ship was going to pass by at less than an 1/4 mile we would turn the radio beacon off and the ship would change course. Okay I'm going to say it... Olimpic class are so badass they need to be on GTA6🤣
I like to call it “Olympic style”
There is a mistake here. The light ship wasnt cut in half by the olympic as evidenced by the dives on her wreck
man, Olympic really changed after losing her sisters.
There once was a man on Nantucket. Who then kicked the bucket. It took a hit, Which caused it to split. And Olympic was the one who struck it. I’m sorry.
Nantucket: "You could have stopped in time. Now my broken body sinks to the bottom of the ocean." Olympic: "I missed the part where that's my problem."
And I mean this in the most respectful way possible I would have absolutely been shitting myself
If the Olympic had a soul... she'd be in a mournful rage knowing the fate of her little sisters. Taking her anger on any ship that gets in her way
It's very sad that had she survived, it would have been an awesome sight to see Titanic's twin still existing. Similar vibes seeing the Giza pyramids, but with only one relic remaining.
"Passanger's on the Olympic barely noticed the collision" Well considering the light scratch on her forepeak I'm not surprised, I think some of the passangers on the Nantucket might have know something was a miss though.
Always wondered why Olympic didnt sound her whistle as a warning when they realized they couldnt avoid the collision
Glad this happened so we can have bomb ass reconstructions like this.

first up, how on earth did you make the lightship break in half second whats the model for the lightship?
"But this ship can't sink!" "She's made of iron, sir. And unsinkable ships are perfect for sinking other ships."

That tends to happen when wired get severed
I thought this was an accurate recreation, but I looked it up and discovered that this is actually startlingly inaccurate. The Olympic's speed at the time of the collision was only three knots, far slower than its apparent speed in the video. The lightship's crew described the collision as "more like a hard push and a terrific shaking, a crunching and grinding. It was not a loud smash as one might expect." The lightship was not cut in half. Its wreckage was discovered in the 1970's and confirmed in 1998, and is described as "remarkably intact" by those who have visited it. I'm sorry, but while this video is very dramatic, it is absolutely not an accurate depiction of the event.
hello everything is fine? I'm a big fan of your channel, I'm from here in Brazil (that doesn't change ANYTHING, but anyway), I'd like to take a doubt; from when specifically did Olympic start using this livery with the gold line below the Olympic name? I always thought it was in the renovation he did in the post-war period, but from what I saw in the photos, it wasn't. I think this format is much more beautiful than the format that was the Titanic and the Olympic itself where the golden line was above the names of the ships. Big hug and congratulations for the channel.
