I share your frustration over feeding troughs. I raise goats, with horns. It can get a little treacherous at feeding times. I found a great option for me. I got the idea from Hidden Heights Farm. Kevin built it in his barn. I built a mobile version of it and I love it. I am currently making improvements in my goat barn and will be building a permanent version in it. Yes, I did make a video of building it. My only issue is some of my goats like to put their front feet in the trough, reaching for the bucket. I hope to remedy that issue.

You have good info, but I was waiting for your best solution for goats! I did see your response that Moutrie feeder works for (goat grain) .... would have to have one for each goat, though. I need to find what works best for goat hay--they waste half of it, and orchard grass is almost $30 a bale now!

I have you covered. I have a video on my channel called "Round vs. Square Bales - Save Money When Feeding Sheep and Goats. This has been helpful to a lot of people feeding both. The cattle panel doesn't allow for the goats to waste a lot of hay and also keeps them from climbing on top. Hope this answers your question.

If I used those cement mix tubs my goats would step into it and send the grain flying, especially the baby goats. I have one aggressive doe who fights everyone for food so I have to have several places to feed so everyone has an opportunity to eat. I even feed one timid goat in a stall I can close so she can eat in peace.

I have had the same problem with goats. One thing that you may try is numerous containers. Put out a little feed in each container. I really don't have problems with the sheep getting in the feed troughs because I find them to be less aggressive than goats at the feeding stations.

    Do you sell ewes sir?

  • @StewartFarmApiary

We will start selling ewes next year. I am very selective on what I allow on my pastures, therefore I grow my heard slow and correct. Next year we will have some for sale. I want 25 core ewes and then sell the offspring. (or at least that is the plan)

Twenty years with boer and nubians............They work but are just harder to maintain in my opinion. I will eventually get into some nigerian goats when the time is right. Hope the video helped you. Have a great week
