None. Basic F150 (XL/STX) with 2" lift ($500), valance removal (free), and aftermarket tires that I was able to choose myself. And, you can get the 5.0 if you want it. Way under $50k new. Just as offroad worthy as FX4/Tremor for 99% of us.

Just picked up my 2022 Tremor and would agree. Best of both worlds. Great comparison!

Just bought the 2022 Raptor.......in my dreams last night.

I believe the Tremor sounds louder because it has last generation Raptor exhaust. It’s got the same HP as non Tremor 3.5 Ecoboost pickups so I don’t think it’s tuned for more power.

The 2023 Ford F-150 Raptor goes 0-60 in 5.2 mph and the turning radius is actually less than the Tremor and FX4. I'm not sure if he is testing the 2022 or 2023 but seeing how nothing really changed between years, I'm not sure where he is getting his info from. The tires and suspension on the Raptor actually make it one of the smoothest riding trucks out there for everyday driving, plus its only wider by a few extra inches on each side which doesn't really change anything when parking. Also, he shouldn't let personal biases affect his testing, such as his short height. Overall, you get what you pay for.

@@Pilot545 The Raptor has a Pro Power generator on board.

I went with the 2021 XLT with Sport and FX4 with an upgraded 20" wheel, upgraded the street tires to BFG AT KO2's, and leveled it. It has surprised me in fields heading to the duck blinds. Idealy I would go with the Tremor, but due to some issues with getting in and out with my wife, I stayed with the one I got. Ground clearance aside, these 4wd systems are fantastic on these trucks. Oh and the front air dam you were worried about on the FX4....it can take some pretty good hits!!! Trust me!! Great review of some actual off roading!

If you're comparing ground clearance, install some rear blocks for the cost of a steak dinner, and you'll have Tremor ground clearance with your front leveling kit! I agree with your recipe, but mine starts with a sub-50k STX crew 4x4 instead. As you say; better tires, 2" lift (for 90 bucks I've ALWAYS lifted the rear along with the front--such a no-brainer and just looks right), and remove valance, and you've got a Tremor for TENS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS LESS.

I did something similar with my 21 Lariat FX4. Added a 2.5 inch level and a Roadmaster Active Suspension which raised the rear lightly. The truck sets almost perfectly level with a very slight rake. Put some 285/65-20 Faulken Wildpeak AT3 that measure at 34.6" gives near Tremor stance and performance.

@@lackingpoint A "slight rake" is perfectly fine. Heck I prefer a pronounced rake even. Pickup trucks have had a rake for over 100 years. Although they do make vehicles with zero rake; they are called passenger cars. ;)

TREMOR is best all around, like winning Olympic Decathlon maybe second place in a few events, but overall highest score wins Gold!

Just ordered the Tremor, key feature with it over the Raptor is you can get it equipped with Blue Cruise self driving. You get the same transfer case in the 402A package as the Raptor and the same option for the Torsen diff

I have not been to impressed with my BlueCruise function on my Tremor. Several flaws overall that causes it be 50/50. I find myself taking over the steering wheel quite a bit. Especially if you’re in the far right lane and the painted lane lines have to be 100% perfect or it will drift into another lane. But it works great in stop and go traffic in rush hour. As it follows the cars path in front of it.

@@csh182 yea I think ford is massively overselling the self driving tech (Tesla does too). Thing is if its not perfect it’s not worth paying for, if you have to intervene grabbing the wheel it’s in beta test territory. I’m ordering a tremor now and I am excited about the cruise control with start stop for heavy traffic, I’ll wait another 5 years before considering paying for the $2k “self driving” package.

I got a 2023 Tremor and love it. I also have the Raptor light kit for the grill.

Tremor on sport setting is a lot fun around town even. Love mine.

2022 Tremor on order. I agree it seems to be the best of both worlds. Did not get the 2kw power option. Wondering if I may regret that in the long run.

So, why didn't you use the Trail Turn Assist feature at your U-turns? And why didn't you at least mention the Torsen Front Differential option available on the Tremor? And did your Tremor have it?

Josh #stoneyridgefarmer Raptor! Once you own one...tough to go back. Mine 17.8 mpg highway. If you're buying a $80k pickup for fuel economy...seek out a 2005 ford ranger 4cyl my friend and save some money....you're buying a Raptor because it's a very sexy supertruck. Drove through the most recent snow storm on the east coast...felt so safe and comfy. I agree..if ya live in downtown San Francisco ya don't need a raptor, comfy, roomy and sexy...fuel economy of a Toyota Tacoma!

Totally agree. I understand the video shows functionality and thats the premise, but no one buys a raptor for its city functionality. I bought one because I think they look, sound, and feel awesome to drive. I love taking it on road trips because the ride is so smooth, you don't feel anything! Loads of space and it has the available power when I want to get up and go to merge or whatever. The fact that its such a capable offroad vehicle straight out of the factory is a pleasant positive, but there's a lot to like about this truck even in city driving.

Just got my ‘22 Raptor build date on 3/8. Excited to at long last know it’s about to happen, but could certainly be happy with the Tremor.

Should have bought a tremor. I've worked automotive and customization for years. The tremor is the better bang for the buck.

I have a Lariat Powerboost on order. I tow a travel trailer and I can get rid of my generator since the truck has one built in plus it has all the low end torque to get that travel trailer up to freeway speed.

Just picked up my tremor. It’s definitely the best of both worlds and such a great daily.

Not sure why you didn’t use the trail turn assist in the Tremor? Also, I’m assuming by the price of that particular Tremor, it didn’t have the optional Torsen front diff.

Those are ALL awesome trucks! I'd be stoked to own any one of them. As an 04 F150 4x4 owner (bought new) who loves his truck but not the combined 13 mph, I'd get that FX4. I drive a lot, in and around Houston, and the narrower than Raptor size would be more pleasant. FX4 could still handle trips at my brother's Hill Country acreage and trips to the ski slopes in style. Now if I was my retired brother in the country I'd get that alpha Raptor....

FYI to the driver: Ford recommends taking off the front chin splitter for off road use, at least in previous generations. It doesn't have to be a limiting factor. It takes a few minutes. It's not a permanent piece of body work. I actually just leave mine off

I know, this guy complained the entire time he was driving the FX4 and even refused to take a line that was appropriate for the truck.. He just gave up and said fail.

I drive a 2018 STX 4x4 supercrew. This past deer season I really learned what a stock F150 can do and where it can and can't go. I will leave you with this, You will be very suprised what a stock F150 4x4 WITHOUT the FX4 package or a rear locker can do off road. I love a raptor but I would use a hybrid with propower way more than a hard core off roader.

Why didn't you activate Trail Turn Assist on the Tremor. While not as easy to get to as the Bronco, it would have helped during the whoop turnaround. The Tremor also has pro power available.

As a long term gen 1 raptor owner, the tremor is for me. I've realized that I never have truly pushed my truck to it's limits because they are so high. Il bet few people do. The Tremor gives great looks, ride and function while retaining really high off road capability. I love my truck but v8s are overrated.

I test drove a 2018 STX supercrew 4x4 with the 2.7L ecoboost and was hooked. I'll never go back to a NA V8. Trucks and turbos go together like peanut butter and jelly.

@@todsimpkins8908 I don't care what it sound like. Contrary to popular belief the turbos are not the weak link in these motors. PROPERLY MAINTAINED they will last as long as any NA V8. There is a reason Ford is having so much success with the Ecoboost line since 2011. I get 29.5 mpg at 56 mph I get 27.0 mpg at 65 mph I get 25.0 mpg at 75 mph I get 22 mpg in the city. When the coyote can do that and make 400 pound feet of torque @ 2750 rpm and 360 pound feet of torque @1900 rpm they are worth looking at.

Can you compare the mud size trucks, Ford Ranger Tremor and Raptors to Toyota Tacoma

I bought a 2023 f150 tremor black widow, has the 3.5 eco boost with the black widow 8”lift and have taking it over some pretty sketchy terrain with no problems.

Two months with Tremor lifted 6 inches unbelievable powerful and fast

I would also recommend the new Tundra. Their hybrid is a direct challenge to the Powerboost. So let the two trucks go toe-to-toe.

Agree, Tremor would be the way to go. I know this is an off-road test, but I didn’t hear you mention tow or payload rating. I already know the answer, but could be worth mentioning as some people pack it up/tow when they go off-road. Sorry if you said and I missed it…I skipped a little. Lol. Great comparison video!! ✌️

Awesome video, fair comparison with a twist of humor : ) I have a '19 FX4 with the MaxTow pkg, it's absolutely phenomenal. FYI: metric tires are narrower than standards, so you can put up to a 34" metric (275/65 r20) tire on stock rims and suspension, without leveling or lift.

Good stuff. How about comparing the Raptor 35 with the Raptor 37 performance package and larger tires? On and off road? Good weather and bad, snowstormy weather? Also, if I was to get the Platinum with the powerboost engine and fx4 package but also level it, maybe 2.5"s, and add larger 35 tires and a small amount of poke, do you think it would still drive smoother and more quietly than the Tremor, especially on highways? If I got the Tremor, I'd likely level it with 35's also. My last choice is just full bore Raptor, but deciding between the 35 and 37 package. My priority is the smoothest, quietest long distance highway drive, but also the confidence of being my go anywhere, anytime, any kind of weather vehicle, on and off road. I don't really go "off roading" per se, but I do go off road to get to destinations, fishing spots, trail heads, campsites, ski areas in terrible blizzards...

2022 Tremor in black here. 6 weeks in and I love this truck! 402A and the blue cruise is so friggin awesome. 4.5 months in and still love this truck. After a road trip to FL from northern Virginia, the blue cruise is good and bad and mostly annoying. It's very specific when you can go hands off and hands on just to touch - 2 hands - on the wheel when it's steering is not worth it. Now, in rush hour with no hands or pedals it rocks. Seems to drift a bit too close to the right line at times. Still worth it

I chose the raptor because I love off roading, and it looks better than the fx4 and tremor. But if you want a truck with very good offroad and more fuel efficiency than the raptor and more towing capability than the raptor. You can also choose the tremor. And if you usually don't go offroad you can choose the fx4 which is very fuel efficient and easier to drive.

Brandon Macon Could you please enlighten me on how it's different from a base F150? "Different shocks?" "Skid plate?" You say the suspension works so well with FX4. Is it just monotube shocks versus standard-issue F150 shocks that make the package worth it and amazing? Honest answer please. I'm considering the package, but on paper it looks like another gimmick package. No real world difference to me. Standard XL F150's are just so capable right out of the box, and probably go anywhere you would take one with an FX4 decal on the side. Just wondering if anyone has actual experience where they can honestly say they went somewhere that, in their opinion, a regular 4x4 F150 would not have made it. Before I spend the extra money. Thanks.

There are two options on the Tremor that put it at the front of the pack for me. The optional Torsen front axel, and the trail turn assist available in the “mid package.” You missed an opportunity to showcase that in your whoop race. I wanted to see if trail turn assist allowed the Tremor to make the U-Turn quicker.

This is exactly what I was going to say. They really screwed up this review! So frustrating. Ford should bill them for the gas. Tremor is the only 1/2 ton to offer both these two off road features (Trail Turn Assist & Torsen) and they never mentioned or demonstrated either one! If anyone who didn't know watched this video they would think it is just a Ford "Rebel" or TRD-Pro, but it is so much more.

@@fabulousoffroaddesigns5080 exactly! Although the Torsen is an option in the Raptor. To me the Tremor really fits what I would need, a very competent 4x4 that I could use to go more places. The only thing I might do to it is level the front end to improve the approach angle, and looks. It has too much rake for my taste.

@@markely7587 of course you are right about the Torsen® on the Raptor 801A and 802A but it doesn't offer the combination of Trail Turn Assist. It is a wide body limited availability Halo vehicle. I should have said "...outside the Raptor..." Ford also sells the Torsen® through it's Ford Performance Parts Catalogue so it is really available through your dealer on any F-150 with warranty. This is what I did, but I wish I could have TTA*. If I ordered the Tremor I'd get the 801A with the Torsen® and I'd just add 285-75R-18 (35") tires. That would be perfect for me.

I think the Raptor is the ultimate truck, but when I think about how I use my truck, the narrower Tremor would be better for going up tight trails, and going throughout brush. I wonder if there would be a way to load in a “Baja Mode” for big open road blasting.

Mark: I've used the TT assist on the Tremor..........it's a blast to use, but I think it would add valuable seconds (to get it in that mode and actually use it and then disengage) for it to be useful for this test.

Ended up with a platinum powerboost fx4. Have to agree on the comfort and the quiet on the highways for long trips. As much as I wanted to go the raptor or tremor route, I knew my majority use was going to be comfort and luxury. I am considering a leveling kit and removing the front lip and replacing it with the tremor skid plate (as well as some different tires eventually). But, I know that is going to come at the cost of fuel economy on the hybrid. So for now, minimal off roading for me.

im just now getting into the truck scene i might be coming up on a 2023 fx4 hybrid and i belive if you were to change out the suspension to somehting similar to the raptor you basically get a raptor powerboost, i am excited to learn more about this new platform and i dont think anything could beat that 7.2kw generator

Take good care of the frame, underside, parts and engine and this truck will love you. I'm still driving my 2011 FX4. It's a BEAST. It's paid off in full and I can mod, upgrade, repair and maintain it all I want. It's literally in the Ford shop right now to have a new timing chain, a few other parts replaced, some parts cleaned and then I'm going to be Line-X spraying the front and rear bumper / rocker panels. I had the bed sprayed when I bought it and put on custom headlights years ago. This F150 FX4 has really gotten me into the upgrading / modding / repairing / maintaining scene. You can literally replace every part on the entire truck with brand new parts straight from Ford.. not to mention the aftermarket scene... There is a reason guys buy Ford F150's and Mustangs :) Easy and cheap to find parts to repair the rest of your life.

Excellent!! I have the 2020 F-350 Lariat Super Duty (Super Cab) with the 7.3L Godzilla motor AND FX4 package. I don't off-road these trucks. I just like them (Super Duty FX4) and that's why the last 4 trucks I bought brand new were three F-250 and my current F-350. However, I have been looking at the F-150 1/2 ton trucks lately. I do NOT want or need the Raptor. And if I go F-150 1/2 ton at all, I want it to be a bit more than a standard/regular F150 but not as extreme as the Raptor. So, that has brought me to the Tremor. AND, available for the 2023 Tremor, the 5.0 Coyote V8. Less HP and less torque than the 7.3L Godzilla I currently own BUT, still quite interesting. And 2000 LBS lighter than the F-350 as well. That said, what I think I'm going to do is build/order a 2023 Tremor Lariat (High trim package ... 402A, I think it is) with the 5.0L Coyote motor and quite possibly, trade in my 2020 F-350 Lariat 7.3L Godzilla. Great video on all three of these trucks!

I have an fx4 that plastic piece is actually rubber and made to totally fold under the truck undamaged

Payload & towing should also be figured into the analysis. For a daily driver, tow rig, and forest road traveler, the Tremor would be my choice.

Which is exactly why I purchased a '23 Tremor. I don't need any more off-road capability than the Tremor provides but I do have an 18 foot enclosed trailer that the Tremor can handle better than the more extreme off-road capable Raptor could.

Ordered my Tremor a month ago. The turn assist may have made the turn without having to back up. Raptor looks fun. Tremor will tow more and better payload.

Hello All! FYI you can get the Tremor with the 5.0. I have a 2023 Carbonized Grey with a 5.0.

I just wish prices would come down. But I think the tremor is more for me. I love the raptor and I wish there was a smaller version. I hate the fuel economy. But space is huge thing on my end.

Great video! I'd choose the powerboost with fx4 then swap the shocks with bilstein or fox with 33s. That's all the off road capability I need.

The tires on the FX4 are all season 31” and the Tremor 33” All terrain. Unfortunately the FX4 has become more of a trim / decal pkg. I have extensive experience with 2 Gen 2 raptors and a 22 and 23 402A Tremors.

Does the tremor really have the gen 2 raptor exhaust?

That Tremor is sweet.

How about F-150 Raptor, in N.Y.C. ?

I actually like the tremor looks the most. Put some 35s on that tremor and it would be even more of a rock star.

you were complaining abt losing traction in the hairpin loss of traction is good so one can slide or drift around it instead of having to reverse

Tremor need one

The FX4 is the off road truck for people who can’t afford the Tremor. The Tremor is the off road truck with people who want to use it as a truck. The Raptor is just a giant ATV with little functionality outside of its one niche.

@@brandonoutlaw856 The tremor fits off road. The raptor does not. Not unless you're talking about sand dunes. Here in the Northeast, you won't find anywhere to take a Raptor. I've got a Jeep 392 and a Tremor, and Sequoia Platinum. Theory blown >.>

I think the fx4 with the powerboost makes sense; get a lower trim, spend your money on upgrading the suspension and tires and your done

Powerboost is heavy, and you cant get the 36 gallon fuel tank, so no 800 plus miles of range, and sacrifice few 10ths in the 1/4 mile with the powerboost. If you join F150 forum standard 3.5 runs 13.7 avg powerboost is 13.9

Plus 30 amps is it going to power your air-conditioning in your home or your electric heat so unless you have a camper don’t see the real benefit of powerboost.

@@Mctsep I factored in never having to take propane while camping and being able to use my electric griddle, electric kettle, electric blanket, drone and eMTB charging on camping trips and the PowerBoost won me over.

@@DISABLED12-7 I purchased a new Powerboost for my wife and a Raptor for me and I am really regretting not grabbing a Tremor . I could've saved about $10,000. The plus of the raptor is the coolness factor. The negative is the gas mileage and the gas mileage, did I mention the gas mileage! We went camping, And having that power most was the best thing that ever happened. No propane, no problem! And there's a gas mileage is NOT 24 mpg. We are at 15mpg , her foot is always on the accelerator sportmode is a wonderful thing. We did choose to level the powerboost and I had 34 inch tall tires. I'm sure that has something to do with the gas mileage but that set is money, for light off roading and getting to campsites

If the tremor had the 6.5 box, I would maybe have got one. The small 5.5 box is sadly useless for me. 2022 Lariat on the way for me!

Own a 21 F150 Tremor. Have done… Ebiach Level kit n rear shocks 35x12.5/18 Maxxis Razr MT tires JB4 “tuner” S&B cold air intake Magnaflow muff n res delete VTA mod JTL catch can Spray in Liner MX4 Bed Cover Full 5% Tint Full Rockford system with 2 10s It’s a 401A package n I love it but… the amount of issues I’ve had with. Various fit n finish issues was a pain. I do love the truck. Coming out of a 20 AT4.

Now since the Tremor is available with V8, it is a no brainer.

I was able to power a three piece band for an hour on my powerboost.

I love tremor

I like tremor but it’s high on fuel. I would go for an FX4

Makes sense. I have a regular 2018 Lariat and it's great for towing and day to day, but it would be nice to have a little more capability for those weekend fishing and camping trips where it does occasionally get hung up on the more challenging access roads, I've had to repair that front air dam a couple of times with a plastic welder.

Tremor in a heartbeat!

Not offering the hybrid powerboost option on the raptor is understandable. With that said, I think Ford not offering the hybrid powerboost option on the tremor is a mistake. As much as I love an off road worthy truck, ( the raptor is my favorite truck of all time) if I could afford to spend 70K on a new truck, I would buy something with the hybrid powerboost option)

@@kylehowe6761 While you are correct, it cant power the electrical accessories in the travel trailer you just towed to your camp sight for the entire weekend you're out. A truck with the Hybrid power boost option can.

@@rdsii64 eh my tremor has enough to run some lights and other simple necessities when out in trail every thing else I like doing the old fashioned way lol but power boost is cool I can’t stand the reverse beep though lol
