    I have the one by Daniel Smith. It is my new favorite red: when wet, it has a color of fresh blood, when it dries, it looks like coagulated blood.

    Also my favourite! I found it useful to get alizarin crimson hue with pv19 and indigo color with pb60, I prefer the pbk-free indigo for it is less likely to make the color mixture dull. Plus you can even add pr179 to your greens to adjust the hue and depth.

    Rosa is indeed great (such bright colors!) though they have some minuses too (lack of non-cadmium cool yellows as one). I got a set and I enjoy it but they behave closer to QOR, pretty wild paints. I still have to get a hang of them. For the price and quality though 100% recommending to try.

    @@HaruKazePIU I have yet to try qor but I do agree, Rosa is not a basic paint. They are exceedingly beautifully when handled well, but I would imagine they might be frustrating for a beginner or someone who is used to completely different paints. I personally do not care about yellows, so never even noticed that. As long as I have one primary yellow I'm set.

    Daler Rowney is an English brand that was founded in 1783. They originally made powder for wigs and.when wigs went out of fashion they made paints. Their Aquafine range is easier to get hold of but their artist range is really lovely. I'm glad to see you include the brand in your review, it often gets overloked

    As someone who is used to White nights and now moving away from them completely, I found for me Schmincke, Rembrandt, W&N, Roman Szmal, and polish brand Renesans are the most comfortable to work with. Just in case if someone's in the same situation. Schmincke also has a lot of their unique colors repeated (like Mars Brown PBr6, Geranium Red, etc). I found replacements for almost all the colors I use.

    Perylene Maroon is my favourite paint by far. I am currently using Grumbacher academy tube, it is a surprisingly good, saturated and dark. When I change to a professional line, Mission Gold is the most similar for sure, and I am mesmerized by Schmincke. They are so different, that I wouldn't mind getting both to use for different purposes. I am exited for the next episode to see how they mix. The low price made me interested in white nights in the past, but now nothing will make me buy them.

    Nevskaya Palitra (manufacturer) is a POS, so I would not recommend to buy their products even without quality issues (and they have a lot of them in different kinds of products they make). Sadly, NP is a some sort of monopolist in Russia when it comes to art supplies and their products are still often recommended by teachers in art schools, so they don’t even care about their quality or reputation anymore.

    @@soon_to_emerge Yup, not a fan of their products. The fact that White Nights are so wildly popular makes me scratch my head sometimes, I've always found these paints to be full of fillers as they dry dull and uneven.

    @@soon_to_emerge their watercolors in pans are ok, I buy them bc they're cheap around here, but I wouldn't recommend foreigners to get out of their way to get them specifically. Thankfully more local manufacturers have come to the Russian market recently, like Pinax or Handy (although the latter is quite pricey, bc it's handmade). Maybe losing monopoly will make NP reconsider their quality control

    Perfect video for what I was trying to decide on. I am interested in how you do your initial test when you get streaking with brands like M Graham? Do you think it’s the same on 100 percent cotton paper? I love the consistency I have experienced with graham colors I have bought and I’m partial to the darker Pere reds. I have a pet peeve with colors separating in tube and I find once it has happened it’s hard to ever get the paint mixed properly again. Maybe bc graham is made with honey, but it’s never happened to me with a MG color. Also a tip in case anyone doesn’t know, put 1-2 drops of glycerin when putting in pans to prevent cracking and helps with re-wetting and doesn’t affect the paint at all. Also dealer rowny has been around for a long time in US (though not very popular-I don’t think a lot people know they have an artist grade paint-as a company they deal in a lot of student grade stuff). But they have an absolutely beautiful perylene red -PR178 that some may find useful for a sub of pr179. It is the most pigmented color I own and I own lots of watercolor tubes! It rewets so well. It will last for a verrry long time.

    This has something and nothing to do with this video lol I've been searching the internet for the meaning of watercolor names. I've noticed repeats and figure there has to be a reason. Examples, Perylene Quinacridone, Pyrrol/Pyrrole, Maganese, Myan, Permanent, Cobalt, Cadmium, Ultramarine, Phthalo. I've probably missed a couple. It seems like some pigments are grouped together with these names but I don't understand why and what each "group" name means. I thought this could be a great video and it would help lots of beginners like me, I'm sure! I think by knowing the names, it could help in deciding paints. 🤔

    That isaro one is quite something. Don’t know if I can get that where I’m from but the DS one is my favorite. Was so disappointed by there perylene green (was my first tube of professional grade paint so not really a great start lol). But all perylenes are definitely not the same. To be honest, I don’t get why they are perylene, what makes any range that specific range. Except for the quinacridones, which I gathered are very smooth and synthetic but there are so many more ranges. I have learned a lot but still have a lot to learn! I enjoy these videos, which I could sign up for your patreon but will have to settle for using your affiliate link if I’m ever going to buy from Jacksons. Thanks for all the thorough tests you do 💜

    Do you have any info about the lightfastness of the Designer Gouache? I was told, that Designer Gouache usually not made very light fast, because for designers that is not an issue. (Their designs are not made to last.) Could it be, that this is the reason, why it’s not as expensive as the Watercolores?

  • @AB-xu8ef

    @AB-xu8ef

    That used to be a thing, but not as much anymore now that more people are using it for proper art and not just to be scanned. The major companies have a lot of light-fast colors now.

  • @KimberlyCrick

    @KimberlyCrick

    2 жыл бұрын

    Lightfastness varies by pigment, not type of paint. In the case of "designer gouache" the term generally means that the entire line does include some vibrant fugitive colors allowing for design freedom. It does not mean each and every pigment used is fugitive. Most brands do a pretty good job noting the lightfast rating on each tube or their color chart, allowing you to just select the lightfast options if you choose. Gouache is a lot less complicated to manufacture than watercolor. There's less grinding (watercolor pigments tend to be mulled to a very smooth fine particle size), and gouache can use a more simple balance of dextrin and gum vs the flow additives and high transparency gum arabic quality needed for watercolor. Hope that helps.

    😦 Sennelier, QoR! ( 👋 bye bye my baes!👶👶👶) _Sorry, it'll take me a second to reboot my brain..._ 😭 My perylene maroons (not my favorite) are Schminke and W&N, and another one I forgot to label 😂 but I think it's the Sennelier, only it's a mixture and I think has 'brown' in the name, and a pink hue (?) that makes it pretty unique. I like [whatever paint it is] because it's unique. I don't think QoR made a PR179 or 179-hue. All that aside, that Mission Gold (and I don't have any Mission Gold tubes, I don't think) is VERY INTERESTING. (It's in the M. Graham spot! _I'll get over this new layout, really I will.)_ I'm just a big old crybaby, don't mind me. I'm very glad to see this series back! ❤
