I would have never thought to mix Opera Pink with Pereylene Green, not one of my go to colors, especially for the moody purples. I guess it somewhat makes sense though because the Pereylene Green leans blue. Got to love Buff Titanium and it really does create the green gray, AJ "coastal fog" and "coastal blue".

Opera pink almost always surprises me with the mixes it creates. Glad I'm not the only one :D The the green grays are just so lovely and resemble some of my favorite watercolors at the moment. Thanks so much for your comments!

This was a great comparison. I do have a concern about the Opera Pink, as it is a highly fugative color. This won't be as much consequence in something like a sketchbook, but for any artwork that could be exposed to light, it would definitely change the outcome over (in this case, a very short) time. My suggestion is to try something like Mission Gold's Quinacradone Permanent Magenta which is a very bright pink and also in their Single-Pigment set. The color number is PR254 which has excellent lightfast qualitites. Daniel Smith's Opera Pink is made from PR122 which is lightfast, but boosts the color using a dye which is fugivive. So it looks really pretty from the start, but fades quickly. That means your mixes will go back to the Perylyne Green tone on your artwork. (Roman Szmal also uses PR122 in its Quinacridone Magenta, which is also a brilliant pink, but it is rated excellent for being lightfast. It would be a great alternative, too!) I am awaiting my Roman Szmal set and will swatch the Perylene green with my Quin Perm Magenta Mission Gold paint and let you know the result. The Roman Szmal Perylene Green is highly lightfast (as are just about all the Roman Szmal paints) and mixed with the Quin Perm Magenta, the resulting colors should last. :) I am not trying to be a wet noodle, but I want you to be aware.

Since I only work in a sketchbook, I really am not concerned with pigments or lightfastness at this point of my watercolor journey. I take photos of my work almost instantly for sharing and making prints if I want but selling my art is not in my future. Thank you for bringing up the importance of lightfastness and single pigment paints it is a must for a lot of artists.

I think I might have misunderstood you, but in case I didn't: PR122 is a lightfast colour! The fluorescent dye added to Opera pinks is not though, and some companies don't disclose the dye. So I hope you're not avoiding PR122 in general! That would be a shame! :)

@@hannahthufvesson Hi, Hannah - Yes, I did say that it was the dye in the DS Opera pink that was not lightfast, but somehow it didn't show up correctly. I had originally just said that the PR122 was not, but when I double-checked it, I saw it was the dye that they used in it and updated my comment. My correction didn't post so I am going to re-correct it again. I had seen that Roman Szmal also used PR122 in their Quinacridone Magenta and it was in fact very highly rated for lightfastness. So you just have to look at the brands and learn what they use. The only reason I brought it up was because I don't want others to be disappointed if they use the beautiful DS Opera Pink and find out later it fades. Thanks for your comment. :)
