Luis Mondragon very impressive that Beto, I agree with you there!! But keep in mind in order to keep Chump from winning we will need a candidate that can reach those undecided voters, need a more centrist candidate. Bernie is great and Luv the guy too, but a part of this country thinks his ideas are too far left, and Beto will probably have the same dilemma. Change comes slow in this country unfortunately. But we have to go with the best candidate that can beat Chump! A lot can happen between now and 2020, we will have to see what happens, my hope is that Trump doesn’t get re-elected cause he is only dividing this country , has very little integrity and morals, is uninspiring. The timing is due to GM finally free of the contract left over from the bailout package stating GM has to keep things going til 2016 ..plus GM going to move production more to CHINA!! NOT as much to Mexico...and the tariffs are making it a easier decision in the eyes of accountants at GM.

You need insane amount of CAPITAL ...

Hopefully an Asian manufacturer takes the plant and keeps everyone employed... I used to buy GM but my last 4 GMs always had little issues...(O2 sensor, theftlock, a/c compressor, light sensor didn't work, oil in the coolant) cannot afford to buy GM. Since 2007 I buy Hondas and Nissan.

The Tax Foundation lists Tennessee, Arkansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Texas, Oklahoma, Alabama, and a cabal of other - what'd you say, majority liberal? - states with high tax rates. Correct me if I'm wrong, but statistics put those states as among the more conservative among voters and legislators than other states. California is in the top ten states for tax rates, no denying that, but liberals are hardly the only contending "tax-loving" fiends in this fine (conservative-leaning, atm) country. I have 2001 GMC safari , has only 117k miles on it. The problems i'm having with it are AWD does not work Caz transfer case gone bad. Motor oil leak( I do not know the cause). Air bags do not work(air bag light on dashboard is on). I have a error code P0128(might be sensor or thermostat). Security system is messed up(siren goes off when it should not). Radiator has a small crack.

This is devastating to those communities. Corporations don't care. You have to hit big business in the pocket for them to do anything moral. Boycott GM? Any other suggestions? This will hurt Michigan and Ohio badly. If anyone has seen Flint and Detroit knows what I'm talking about. The Cruze was selling well but not the profit margin they wanted. GM's reputation is going to take a hit on this one. I pray. Public perception is powerful these days and consumers won't put up with a business with soulless ethics. Let's give them hell!! This saddens me when I've seen what happens to these manufacturing cities. Flint, Saginaw, Lansing and Detroit, these where really great places to live. This hurts more than a GM employee, it kills an entire community.

There will be more closures in the future because of the movement towards electric vehicles, powertrain factories that make the engines and other parts will close down or switch to other parts production.

Has anyone seen the stock lots in Michigan and Ontario? All auto companies have so much inventory in those lots it make no sense. It's gotten to the point now where people are stealing the cars from those lots and no one knows about it for weeks/months.

Plant that closed in Mansfield Ohio pretty much killed off the town.

The Ohio plant started to shut down back in nov. of 2016. The plant layed off workers and dropped to just two shifts, the first time in 20 years. All due to a lack of demand for the product. Then in April of this year, dropped the second shift. Again due to lack of demand . This is not something that just happened. It’s really sad how many people like to blame this or that for this closure but many of these same people have contributed to this by purchasing cars and trucks made in other country’s. Such as the Silverado.

I bet it's all a ploy to help that awful prez. Will GM introduce the Blazer there next? People need the security of having employment. GM needs to do right by Lordstown!

Hopefully this is just posturing for the 2019 uaw contract negotiations.

In my 45yrs of using a motor car as a mode of transport, and having driven a wide variety of different makes of cars, Toyota and Kia have served my family as extensive travellers, very well, indeed. My Hyundai(Elantra) was my most reliable and trustworthy car, mind you.

I’m losing my job at a different Gm factory, I just hope the governments do right and help the workers get back to school or help us find new jobs!!! They keep saying the cars aren’t selling and I have to say bullshit, the Cruze is in the top 5 of most driven vehicle in most areas I hope Toyota buys up all the closing factories

I bought a Cadillac back in 2016. It was made in Mexico and it was my biggest mistake in terms of consumer discretionary spending. Take it in for annoy electrical problems back to the dealer all the time.

Fear and Loathing In Lordstown Ohio. Auto Plants, Steel Mills, mining. Industry after Industry. Someday you may see Americans headed across the Mexican border looking for work at all the Manufacturing plants that moved there.

Hiring welders : certified welders needed to weld all doors closed at this plant.

Believe me i feel bad for the people who lost their jobs, They just follow orders and put the cars together but the geniuses who make the horrible decisions to use plastic in a high flex area, exposed electrical components, etc.. I have very little sympathy for because the entire brand and all it's assembly line workers depend on YOU to make a good reliable design so buyers don't go somewhere else.

Holding out for hope because of some obscure language in the company announcement? That's exactly what management wants you to do! It was worded that way to soften your reaction! I was "downsized" out of my position of 26 years after a hostile company takeover of a business that had remained profitable for over a century. Three-fourths of the workers lost our jobs that day... But the termination was worded in such a way that there was a possibility we might have jobs a year later. We found out there was never a real possibility. It's a tactuc used by corporations to keep the fired workers from feeling hopeless so they don't torch the plant right then and there. These folks need to face reality and move the hell out of there ASAP.

This is why I continue to live well below my means, even on an upwards middle-class salary. You never know what might come out of nowhere! My friends dub me as cheap, but I’ve been stashing tens-of-thousands in case of the unforeseen.

GM is a legend, build at home and in your neighbours backyard, North and South and in Nations with compatible values. More importantly build what people want. Get rid of the mismanagement. Reminds me of the officer who asked to see my license, I said sure, show me yours first, he said no way, then you'll know where I live! Hence the policy makers hiding behind the company name.

Do you guys really think this plan to shut down started within this year? I work for 3m company and 5 years ago 3m was already making changes to make sure something like this didn’t happen to us. The problem with GM is union and way to many hands reaching into the cookie jar. After the bailout gm workers went on strike. Instead of being thankful that the government helped them out the workers asked for more money. In no way am I happy this happened to them but we must be responsible with what we have. The way I see it is there is a lot of miss management at gm. The reason for that is because everyone has been living high on the hog so nobody paid attention until the consumer stopped buying.

A company discontinuing a product has nothing to do with government unless the government subsidizes it, which is a false economy.

GM/Ford understand that car manufacturing is not the same anymore . Why live on subsidies?

Ford dropped their car line also so I understand that there isn’t enough demand for cars. What I have a hard time with is that they are increasing production in Mexico. Even if they see an all electric car future, I doubt they will produce them here because it’s cheaper to do it there. It won’t be long before these companies begin to realize that people without jobs don’t have money to buy their products. That’s one reason I don’t use self checkout at stores, I go to a cashier.

The Cruze wasn’t selling. It seems everyone is wanting SUV’s. Switch to an SUV that customers want.
