Why am I watching? Cause I just recently found out that, (and I don’t know how I never knew) that shareholders lost EVERYTHING after the bankruptcy and worst of all? They were allowed to issue new stock under the same ticker as if the previous stock had never stopped trading. How did they get to do that? That’s absolutely terrible.

  • @turbinatearc7478

I just don’t see Ford going into Chapter 11 anytime soon. I mean, as of this writing, they’re suffering a strike right now, but they’ll get out of it and survive. Ford is the oldest American car company, and has never seen bankruptcy. They’ve weathered many events: the Great Depression, two World Wars, the Cold War, 9/11, Katrina, the Great Recession, COVID-19, and now this strike. They’re so strong, they can adapt to any economic and social environment. They are also the only Free American Car Company left today after 2008-10. As for General Motors and Stellantis, if this strike progresses but Ford gets out of it, those two will probably go bankrupt (again) in the fast lane, and Ford will most likely buy Chevrolet, Buick, Cadillac, Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep - leaving GMC and RAM in the dust, and FIAT, Alfa Romeo and Maserati would’ve been spun-off into a new company. And Ford’s competitors would be the “Big Three” EV startups: Tesla, Rivian and Lucid. Ford will most likely spin-off its “Model e” EV business, as well as the former GM and Stellantis brands’ EV units, to one of those EV startups. That way, Ford will only focus on one thing: manufacturing ICE vehicles, which is a profitable business for them as of right now. Hopefully, the strike will end, and we’ll see what the future holds for us.

There is hope! Recently, General Motors shares rose as much as 3.1% and closed 2.1% higher after banks resumed coverage of this automaker (one third owned by taxpayers) with high marks for its strong post-bail out balance sheet and its position in emerging markets such as China, Brazil, Rusia and India. Additionally, JP Morgan foresees a $42 per share target for 2011.

I won't say this was the only reason I stopped buying GM, but it certainly is part of it. The last GM I owned was a 2008 Grand Prix GXP. I don't miss that car at all. I LOVED Pontiac! I had a handful of Grand Prixs before that and loved them but it seemed to me that right around that 2005 to 2007 area, it felt like a lot of GM's parts (specifically interiors) were very cheaply made. Just didn't feel as nice as the earlier year's models. Cheap plastic, wear and tear parts on the car that would seem to fail prematurely. Known transmission issues with my GXP but no recalls ever made. That goes for the ignitions too that they knew were bad but never fixed. For all of these reasons, I will do my best to never own another GM car. They should've axed GMC before they axed Pontiac in my opinion anyway. I know a lot of Pontiac models weren't selling a ton, but then just shrink it to a few models instead of keeping GMC around to basically sell the exact same model as Chevrolet, just a different badge. If they ever bring back Pontiac then, and only then, will I want to purchase another GM. Otherwise it's Chrysler and Ford from here. And yes I know, Chrysler got help from Obama too.

Well you got that right. I currently have an 08 G6 and it's done nothing but fall apart and cost me money. Just about every component and sensor in that car has failed, and it hasn't reached 150k miles yet. GM won't take any accountability for it, and they refuse to fix the power steering recall a second time even though it still randomly goes out without warning. They told me to take it up with NHTSA, which is pretty much the elf on a shelf for automakers. I've tried numerous times to contact them, and they never get back to me. My wife and I own a Ford and a Mercury, and we haven't really had to deal with them because both vehicles have been great.

I do not understand GM, especially policies in Europe. They left Belgium Antwerp hub some 12 years ago. They went on selling cars under the Opel brand and some Chevrolets. Then they withdrew Chevy from our market and only kept the Opel brand. Last year they moved their Opel division to France and raised prices. Opel is not cheap anymore and Chrysler is taking over their share. As a result of that you hardly see no Opel cars any more riding. Last week I was In France where their market share was relatively good I thought. I saw almost no Opel cars anymore. For me GM will leave Europe for good soon. I myself have a Opel and quality is good. I do not understand what they are doing. The thing is that GM has an range of brands with which they can operate on our market at very competitive prices. There is an existing and workable dealership network. I guess they fell asleep ...zzzz...zzz... WE NEED NICE AND FINE SMALL AMERICAN CARS !!!! DO YOU REALIZE A CASCADA COSTS 40 K???? THERE IS NO ASTRA GTC ANYMORE !!!! THIS IS AMERICAN KAFKA !!! GM MUST UNDERSTAND THAT GERMANIC MINDS DO NOT NOT NOT BUY FRENCH CARS. WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU GM? same thing happened to the US Steel industry. The United Steelworkers made it almost impossible for domestic steel manufacturers to compete with foreign steel. Read the book Playing Through the Whistle about the steel industry in Aliquippa, PA and its rise and downfall. Union contracts made firing someone virtually impossible. Gave workers 6 weeks paid vacation every few years and the performance / productivity bonuses were set so low that pretty much everyone got a bonus for simply not being late to work. Paying people $75k for $50k worth of work versus China paying someone $10k for $50k worth of work is a recipe for disaster in any industry.
