Common mistake or Common problem? Day In The Life Of A Plumber

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Day in the life of a plumber and we are back to the large renovation we are doing and another common problem we find on the new Worcester 8000 boilers...they suck the life out of the gas meters giving low working pressure but is this a common mistake or a common problem when it comes to these boilers?
Either way the low working pressure needs correcting so we need to update the gas pipe from 22mm to 28mm...which involved going under the floor boards and into the crawl space under neath the house which is never a nice job.
See how we got on re running the gas which wasn't without its problems..even before we started laying pipe!

ALLLLL THE TIME. Every 4000 / 8000 has to have 28mm. The compacts are fine with gas norrmally. Also fist thing id do is remove the lead and see if that helps with the gas

Great honest video, I’ve Faced this challenge many times also , used to gamble, found myself upgrading more than anticipated at times and its put a dent in the schedule. Moving forward from here unless I’m sure I’ll do a Calc and size it. Ten minutes work will give a good idea what’s required and save you over killing it with 28mm as sometimes happens with just estimating the run. Keep up the good work

Got told by worcester on their 162 commercial boilers they will work safely down to something like 2mb gas pressure (obviously wouldn't get the full output though), not sure if that the same with there domestic range, also think their domestic range used to let you have 16.5mbar on the ilet due to the loss through the gas vale and gas connection firtings to the boiler

Should've stuck 35 down the hole! 😂 Even though I think you're still a little low according to BS (1mb drop between meter and appliance) most real world installers know that boiler is going to work just fine. Boiler is only going to run at max during hw demand and will probably throttle down as well. Ch is somewhere round 24kw. Problem may occur if other appliances are fitted, but that's not your problem.

Hi Luke I'm not being a knob but have you considered the Gas supply being in voids as it's something I really find a difficult scenario. I'm guessing the ground floor void vented through air bricks but not so sure under the bathroom floor. I'm sure you're aware but the lead flex on the existing supply is basically 15mm bore and would have been half the issue if not more. I replace them immediately if I see them

so the pipe which run vertically was clipped to the door frame is this ok? I'm looking to do a new gas run in-between floors on a property I'm working in. The builder is trying to make as little mess as possible. (keep the cost down) normally I would be run behind plaster board or chase it within the wall.. however this time they have requested to run in between floors clipped to the wall. (in the corner) reading through volume 2 of the viper book I can't seem to find anything which says its against the rules as long as its sleeved both ends. equally I can't seem to find anything to confirm its ok !

It's basic pipe sizing mate, nothing to do with Worcesters and I can't understand this worcesters suck the life out the gas? 30kw boiler will suck same amount of gas irrelevant of manufacturer. The 1.5mb drop between boiler and gas valve is the allowance worcester give through internal gas pipework. I.e a total of 2.5 mb drop from meter.
