Do you have a link to the dead test/Diagnostic test and harness's? Maybe the device you are using to connect to your tv? :) Thanks! Love the channel

Did you get to sort the issue with U1 and U2 reporting bad with the diagnostic test?

Sort of, it seemed to be an issue with the way the joystick port connectors are soldered to a single PCB. I got some DB9 extension cables and connected them in between and the problem was (mostly) solved. It still gives me trouble sometimes. I think I addressed the issue on my other channel in this video kzread.info/dash/bejne/imqguMSph5bgYJs.html

I recently purchased a faulty Commodore 64. It has a black screen when turned on. I noticed that the cartridge port is missing. If I had a new port soldered on do you think that it could work. Could the cartridge port (or lack of) have anything to do with a black screen.

The lack of a cartridge port wouldn't be causing a black screen, but it would be a good idea to check the contacts for the cartridge port to make sure none of them have been bridged. Very strange for someone to completely remove it, no idea why they would do that

@@Sawickipedia I paid £15 for the unit only which is a bargain in the uk. The broken pins are still on the board so I'll get them desoldered. Thanks for the suggestion.

So you changed only the electrolytics? None of the ceramic capacitors? (It looks like there's 30+ ceramics all over the place). If you missed one capacitor, I wonder how many did you actually change? According to retroleum.co.uk the 250425 board takes just 6 replacements and their kit costs £4.75.

The ceramics have a much longer lifespan, so I would only replace them if I believe they were causing an issue. Yes the 250425 board thankfully uses very few electrolytics, but there are another 3 or 4 in the RF modulator - that's the hard part that I probably should have shown

Just dug into my Commadore 64 and it looks like the main caps are smoked. I have black screen. I looked at some cap kits. Capacitance was the same but voltage was higher is that ok!

Higher voltage is fine. If you need to do further troubleshooting check out the C64 troubleshooting series on my other channel kzread.info/head/PLh38SbsQfKYehk1ZErQc6NPRx5OinVN3-

@@Sawickipedia Thank you. I found an American company that sells the full kit so I'm going with that. This machine has never been worked on. It's like a time capsule but just plugging it in blew the main caps. So pretty excited but going to make it count!
