That is so neat to be able to open a net that size wading. Truly an art. Amazing the amount of idiotic replys. You clearly state that these mullet are headed to the market for people to buy at a fair price. The best fried fish in the world when they come from the right water.

Man! that's awesome. I keep seeing people throwing out cast nets and pulling in a dozen fish at a time, but I'm going out there and catching one fish the whole day. I hope things are much better during the mullet run.

Great throws. I came to this area of the Florida panhandle 35 years ago with the same mindset as some of you, mullet are for bait, not to eat. After locals raved about the Island mullet here, I reluctantly tried them and became a believer. I can eat flounder, trout, grouper and snapper virtually anytime I want and I would rate the mullet here right up there with any of those. I didn't believe it either, but it is true.

Mullet is nice but you have to know how to cook it. Cooked over charcoal is a nice way too and eaten with a dip of lemon and chilies and some thick coconut cream. I don't buy mullet from the market but when I'm out at sea, I catch them.

all of you that have issues with him fishing like this need to look up videos of commercial fishing via trawl nets and then say something about this cause you wont. He only has striped mullet no by catch and if he gets by catch can throw it back unlike trawlers which by catch will be dead by the time nets are retrieved. I work for a state agency that regulates fishing he is totally legal.

Jeez I've been looking at spearfishing for weeks, breathing techniques, carefully learning to stock your prey, etc. I type in "fishing with nets" just now, and this (very nice and friendly) overweight american just walks into the shallows, throws a net without effort, and at a snail's pace, walks back to the beach dragging a crap load of fish behind him. This is definitely the way to feed your family. I am still laughing about this.

I am blessed with clean waters thankfully here in the outer banks NC. Not everyone can spear their own fish though, to make a living I use nets and I think I fish very responsibly. Mullet like what he is catching and other bait fish grow almost as fast as the algae they eat.

From a boat, me and my dad have one Carolina skiff we fish from. We try to take really good care of our catch and work hard to not be wasteful of anything. We want our water ecology to be healthy so it can be fished sustainably, lots of pollution and overfishing happened in the 70's and 80's but things are getting better now I think. Oysters need to make a comeback to balance the water and make structure where fish like to feed and hang around. Another project we have going is a .8 acre oyster farm. When completed, it should make for a nice spearfishing spot. :)

Look up local and federal regulations on mullet fishing before you start bashing people. I am a recreational fisherman, not commercial, and I agree that a lot of the mom-and-pop commercial guys out there don't care about bycatch or regulations... But this guy is doing nothing wrong. Where I'm at (FL), recreational mullet limits are 50 Per Person per day, and commercial ranges from 5-50 per person depending on which county you're located in. He even made a statement to throw back one fish that was just above legal size (a light 12"). So please, educate yourself before you speak. It makes you look like a fool.

Nice! Perfect size Mullets for Smokin!! So people know, Mullets are not consider game fish in Florida (more of a bait fish)- each person with a salt fishing license can be in possession of 200 mullets of any size.

Dam you throw the net badass. I throw a 6 foot like nothing but a 7 or 10 foot I get tired by the 4th throw and start throwing it all sloppy lol

You sure make it look easy! I just ordered one of these nets for the Sockeye run, hope I can throw it out there as well as you do with a little practice.... gill net and seining are most common net fishing up here, but I'm gonna give it a try... any pointers? PS just ignore the trolls, they think food just magically appears!

You have a good technique thoroughgoing that net, hard-gut mullet tasty when fresh and packed full of omega 3.

In Florida you have a sand and coral bottom. In Texas we have nothing but mud and silt. The silt apparently makes the meat tast musty. Here in the Corpus Christi we have the CP&L plant discharge on the Oso, the discharge keeps the bottom silt churned up. I caught some of the biggest blue crabs I've ever seen. Cooked them but couldn't eat them, same musty tast.
