I’ve played it against some black monk/rat decks, Shelobs, some VERY expensive eldrazi decks with cards that sacrifice creatures and deals damage directly for the sacrificed creatures power, just by hitting my combo to non stop search my library, draw lands, make enchantments cost less, and add mana x value to the number of enchantments on my side enchantment CREATURES included, tonight, I had 15 enchantments down, due to low mana costs, and the ability to play out of my library and others if they attack, I had 15 floating mana alongside my 12 lands played due to specific cards allowing me to play one tapped and put one in hand. It’s filthy deck for 60 bucks. Well worth it. Nyx is the card that makes it phenomenal with his x mana per enchantment on the board.

I saw Numot was playing so I tuned in, but it was the same as I remember, Josh basically plays the same deck every game just with a different commander, he def drops the rhystic more than anyone else, and since it’s such a low cmc card, it always takes over games early, just not my cup of tea but I’m sure a lot of people do enjoy, anyway, was nice to see Numot, now on to the other commander shows 😁

    (SPOILERS, don't read until you have watched the episode.) I think the Eldrazi deck looks insane. That deck has such a head start with all the mana accelerants. I just wonder what it has to do to actually get the finish in a game like this. The board kept growing and growing and looking more ominous, but in the end, Jimmy only managed to reduce his own life total and nobody else's. I wish there was a bit more interaction in the game. Amy really was the only one attempting to interact and slow down the board. The combo finish out of nowhere was pretty, but also a bit unfortunate, because I would've loved to see more from Amy's and Kenji's decks.

  • @tonysmith9905

    @tonysmith9905

    Colorless has a certain lack for interaction. Not any good targeted removal, best options that aren't super niche cost 5+ mana. Has plenty of board wipes, but the lower cost ones still blow up your own stuff. The ones that are one sided are all high mana cost. And every one knows that big dumb beaters don't finish games on their own. Needs either to have obscene synergies or flat out combo. Sure, Zhulodok is value town once he gets running, but it's VERY difficult to find colorless cards that will generate enough value to hold up your deck in the long run. So the decks that do win even semi consistently either tend to be turbo ramp into the Eldrazi Titans to close out games fast, or combo. Neither of which casuals enjoy much.

    Jimmy was the only one who even tried to play around the Rhystic study, giving Josh only 2 draws. Amy and Kenji played as though it wasn't even there giving Josh 4-5 cards each. Shockingly, a combo focused deck when allowed to draw 11 cards in the space of 3 turns does tend to be able to win the game. You know the bit that bugs me though? On every podcast that they mention, talk about or evaluate cards like Rhystic Study they reinforce that you should *always* pay the tax. Yes, it slows you down. However, it is better that you slow down than you ramp another player straight to their win condition because you can't be bothered properly assessing threat levels. After the first rotation of the board with Rhystic down Amy even picks up on it, asking Josh how many cards he has in hand. "Eight" he answers. That's nearly as many cards as everyone else at the table combined. And what do they do? In the next cycle Amy and Kenji draw him a total of 6 cards due to not paying.
