Commander Keen 5 glitchless% (normal) -

Ойындар

Commander Keen 5: The Armageddon Machine version 1.4, DOSBox version 0.74 at 60000 cycles. The purpose of 60000 cycles is to minimize level loading times: I don't use max cycles (which is the norm for this game's speedrunning and would far exceed 60k) because excess cycling combined with the DOSBox recorder could possibly produce external lag and I try to avoid that as much as possible.
Start time has a 0.50 delay and begins immediately after exiting the difficulty selection game to enter the game. End time is when the QED (giant glass ball at the very end of the run) breaks.
There are a few mistakes here and there, some obvious to anyone, some less-so. I will say that my current "best-of" time (that is, the combination of all my best level times ever) is only barely under 15 minutes, so this is a good run by those standards. I'm very happy with how it turned out in general, since there are a lot of pretty cool stunts I pull off: ironically, some said stunts wouldn't be there had I performed better.

Pretty entertaining run, actually. I kinda like how in places where items and collectables were just very slightly out of your way, you often went ahead and collected them, anyway. I know it's a speedrun, but seeing bigger numbers in the scoresheet list at then end always makes things look cooler.

If you pay more attention you'll see that this is only done when it doesn't actually cost any time because he's waiting on the next platform cycle anyway.

this is so insane... keen 4&5 was my first game when i was 6, and i always loved the game... since i saw the glitched speedruns at AGDQ a few weeks ago (by cosmo i believe), i'm training this game (glitchless). and im actually glad i can finally finish it on easy without saving before losing all my lives, i'm currently at ~22 minutes (no stopwatch yet). watching you do it on normal without dying once is just mind-blowing. anyway: is that luck or can you make them do that every time at 7:44 and 10:45? :D is there a trick to get by the slicestar at 11:35 safely? i usually die at least once or twice in this level, mostly because of that :( also, i feel like jumping up near the left wall at the start of the last level nearly always gets me through the dog pit safely (since they dont start moving before i actually get there).

che zus Well dang I could've sworn I replied to this! Apologies for taking so long. Anyway: As a rule of thumb, all enemies will randomly choose which direction they're going when they first spawn, so anything having to do with getting around enemies when they go a certain direction will be luck-based. The first sectiont you mention doesn't cost too much time if it goes poorly, as you can jump over the shelleys if need be. Everything involving shockshunds is frustratingly luck-based, so yes, having that first one react so ideally was very fortunate for me. Hugging the left wall at QED can help, but I also find that it really messes with the spindreds when you're trying to grab the red key. Could be worth it for glitchless though, since you're not expecting a super-fast final level.

I wonder how many people know if you shoot a bouncing slicestar 50 times it dies (or a normal slicestar 20 times).

Dark Blue Sky Keen's hitbox actually includes his gun, so when I fire from the pole there I'm potentially in danger of colliding with the Shikadi. I might've made the final shot in time, but Keen5 glitchless is one of those runs where it takes forever just to get as far as that level, so I opted to play it safe.

No Korath III secret level? You did the Forbidden Pyramid in Keen 4...

Tim Hicks This isn't a 100% run, so all the levels aren't a requirement. And, quite frankly, adding the secret level to this run isn't very interesting, since the fastest route through that level is to take the secret exit anyway (which is done in the any%). Even if you DID take the normal route through Korath III Base, it's not nearly as interesting as keen4's secret level anyway. Lots of waiting for (and on top of) platforms at the end.
