Comica BoomX-D D2 | Dual Wireless Mic Kit Review

Ғылым және технология

With a compact design similar to the Rode Wireless Go, the Comica BoomX-D D2 is a great option for a dual mic system that adds almost NO additional size or weight to your setup.

Nice review. I have been using this product every day for the last 5 months with the GoXLR in Microsoft Teams meetings and while there are many positives, there are 3 issues. Issue 1 - Battery life is not very good. With the receiver connected to 2 transmitters, all batteries on all 3 devices are depleted after around 2 hours of constant use. Issue 2 - A fully charged device sometimes loses all charge within 24hours even when powered off. Issue 3 - On several occasions (approx once every 3 days) during use the receiver stops outputting audio and requires a power cycle. Note however, I have no hesitation in recommending the device as the overall value is excellent for meetings and personal use. Would think twice before using it in a professional capacity though.

Thanks! Glad to hear you've liked them but surprised by the battery issues. Maybe it's something that will come up after a while of using them but I've used them for 3 or 4 shoots total so far, single and double Tx, and not re-charged them in between. They sat unused for a couple days in between as well but battery is still going and never noticed a cutout issue like that. I wonder if something is faulty with yours or if it just develops over time. I wouldn't be surprised if the quality of the batteries were lower, or if there were QC issues that allow faulty units to slip through more easily... those things typically suffer for cheaper prices but it's a pretty decent trade off in most cases.

thank you sir. most of the review about this unit never mention about the poor audio level meter. but you are right, it is just simply to show that it picks a voice signal :)

This is great! I've been looking for a dual channel wireless kit and the only other that I knew about was the Deity connect, but it's costs significanly more. I'm curious on whether it will sound better with a better lav plugged in (but I do suppose that begins to increase the cost), but I imagine any issues with sound quality are specific to the mics provided.

Thanks! The Deity is fantastic- and 100% worth the price, but it's not a compact kit so this wins out there. I think the mic choice will definitely affect it and while it does increase the price it will also still have the benefit of the small, light design. Most other kits come with terrible mics anyway- even the stock Deity mics are not that great (their other options are far better) but if size isn't the main concern then other kits may have a longer range, better build quality or more detailed controls. I think it just comes down to which points are priorities for you (as well as budget) :)

Scott Dumas thanks! Size is definitely the selling point for me. I have a pair of Rode Filmmakers, but they are so thick for weddings. My only situation I may be concerned with would be with the signal loss and I wonder if the bodies between the TX and the RX would cause signal drop out similar to when you were walking away. Definitely something to consider!

@@ScottDumas Do you have any recommendations for lav options that you would suggest? I have these mics and am hoping to get better sound out of them. Thank you!

Thanks so much! I have a pretty complex setup with mostly 9.solutions parts, mounted to the railing of the second floor balcony above my table. Not quite necessary but it's pretty solid.

Hello Scott, I agree the lav mic sounded muddy. I like the review, not a fan of the sound of this kit. What is your go to wireless mic/kit? I need to replace mine. Ihave been reading up on wireless in Japan, they are very very strict. I have the Comica WM300A kit as a back up but not sure if I could use them in Japan.

Hi! I most often use the Deity Connect kit and my go to lav mic has been the VT500 from Voice Technologies... I haven't tried any of the upper models from Deity actually, but I think they have some very nice sounding mics themselves too.

This is probably best used as a backup/extra wireless kit. Definitely needs to be paired with a higher quality lav mic. I wonder how it would perform in an urban environment surrounded by buildings and a million cellphones?

For sure- it's size and weight is the biggest perk, not really quality haha. I would like to test it in big city for sure but I'm nowhere close. Will give it a try sometime most likely though, because it's just such a convenient kit to bring along when packing small :)

Yeah audio quality is not one of the strong points here haha. I've just loved how easy it is to bring along and use.
