Comica Audio BoomX-D D2 Wireless Mic System | Hands-on Review

Ғылым және технология

A.B. takes an in-depth look at Comica's BoomX-D D2 wireless mic system, which could be one of the best-bang-for-your-buck purchases as a content creator. This wireless microphone system comes with two transmitters, a receiver, a lavalier microphone, smartphone and camera cables, wind furries, charging cable and more.

    Appreciate that you talked about the "hot" line going to Sony cameras. Another reviewer noticed that on the old version. I will use these to quickly mic up product presenters at trade shows. I don't expect them to be my best mics, but you samples sound fine.

    I just received my Comica system the other day and I am blown away at the clear quality of the mic! I’ve had several different budget friendly wireless mic systems, but every one of them always had the weird hiss background sound. Not Comica. I’m very impressed! PS: Mine did come with a hard case carrying pouch. Idk why yours didn’t. 🤔 Edit: My system is different than yours. My transmitters look different than yours. The buttons are on the front of the transmitters and no screen. There’s only a screen on the receiver

    I would love to see this compared with the Saramonic Blink. I've been using the Blink System for a while, and I love it. But the headphone jack and the mono/stereo options on the Comica Boom could prove to be useful in some situations.

    Thanks for this excellent in depth overview. I just purchased it after watching. Update: Their new packaging deletes the Sony/Fuji attenuated cable. I was disappointed but the transmitter let me set the gain on both A/B down to -12dB and at -6 it seemed to work fine with my Sony camera.

Merci d'avance 🙂

    Thanks for your review! Does those mics get interference from mobile phone receiving calls, or from wifi signals in the room?

  • @BandH

    @BandH

    3 жыл бұрын

    No not at all. Whereas typical analog wireless systems are susceptible to interference from TV and radio waves, the BoomX-D digital system avoids that by operating in the 2.4 GHz frequency band, which occupies frequencies beyond those of television, radio transmissions, and UHF wireless microphone systems. The system automatic changes transmission frequency to mitigate noise and dropouts at a line-of-sight distance of up to 164 feet. For optimal performance, environments with limited Wi-Fi/2.4 GHz traffic and minimal physical obstructions are recommended. >Mark

    Do you know why the mic gain stepper on the receiver changes db , but it does not lower the mic gain. The mic level is full blast on the Cannon 800 regardless of the db setting on the receiver.

  • @BandH

    This would be a question best directed to the design engineers at Comica. The BoomX-D D2 transmitter does not have any controls to adjust the input gain. These levels have been preset at the factory for optimal sound when using either the built-in internal mic or included lavalier mic. You can experiment with mic placement by moving it closer or further from the mouth to achieve the best results for your recording. >Mark Email support@comica-audio.com

    Moving targets are always tougher to hit Wyatt. Radio waves will encounter mult-path reflection, deflection and absorption as the receiver and/or transmitters are moving. The radio environment, if you will, is always changing and adapting which will affect distance and quality. >Mark

    I have this system. Pretty cool. I just need a recommendation on a stereo mini-phone to XLR cable (or stereo mini-phone to split/2 XLR cable) so I can use it with my pro camcorder or portable field recorder and keep the stereo recording, being able to have the micA and micB split/separated in post. I have the Comica receiver set to "stereo" and I can attest that the mic signals are separate. I can hear micA in my left ear and micB in my right ear via the receiver's headphone-out jack. But all the mini-phone to XLR cables I have, micsA&B can be heard in both ears on the recording device and waveforms are mixed when the recorded file is brought into an editing app.

    Files recorded by the transmitters in the Comica Audio BoomX-D PRO D2 Ultracompact 2-Person Digital Wireless Microphone System/Recorder are stored within each transmitter's 8GB of internal memory. It is important to note that once this 8GB capacity is reached, the transmitter will start to overwrite old files when new recordings are made. For this reason it is important to offload the recorded files onto the computer after recording. To transfer files from the transmitter, connect its USB output to the computer with the system's provided USB output cable. The transmitter should then mount as a drive on the computer called "BOOMX-D_PRO", where you can access and copy the files to your computer as needed.

  • @BandH

    @BandH

    3 жыл бұрын

    They compare very well. The Comica Audio BOOMX-D is a physically diminutive system at: 1.5 x 0.9 x 2.2" / 39 x 22 x 55 mm for the transmitter and the receiver respectively. The line of sight distance is slightly shorter as well. But the battery life is about an hour longer when fully charged. Am I just thinking about this the wrong way? It's nice the receiver has in ear monitoring for direct playback. But wouldn't you want this on your transmitter so when you're recording or testing your conditions, you can hear what it sounds like live? If I'm 20ft away from the camera, there's no way for me to do this from the transmitter. Is this just amateur problems since with a professional production, you're going to have a camera man/women that can monitor and tell you if it doesn't sound right?

    The Comica Audio BoomX-D D2 is not a stand alone recorder. It is a wireless mic system. You connect the receiver to the camera and the camera will record the audio from the mics commented to the transmitter.

    Greetings from Cali, Colombia I need a system like this, but i want is a UHF system like the Synco T2 or the new T3, BUT i waiting to purchase, on this or the synco"s cause i have not idea, how good will perform if i take the out signal, with a spliter, to can plug each side (L&R) in to my zoom H6 or F8N... Can you please make a video with a good sound Quality, to can evaluate this? I wonder why the walls and flooring didn't block the sound but the man's son's body blocked it. That's strange. The walls should've blocked it too.

    Absolutely, Adib! The receiver weighs in at about 1 ounce and measures just: 1.5 x 0.9 x 2.2" / 39 x 22 x 55 mm. >Mark

    You can just use the orange cable or the one that says “for canon, Nikon, etc..” that works as well. 😊

    Very informative video and thank you. The only thing I don't get is you obviously spent a lot of $$ on your camera equipment and lighting. You then recorded with some picture profile and "forgot" to put some contrast back in?? If you look at the segment of B Roll of people walking in the street which is perfect then back to yours, it proves my point. Is this the new look???
