Thank you so much for sharing this with all of us. I have a new neighbor who is like a expert at building things with wood. I'm going to ask him to build me one like you suggested. Half this size like 3 across four down. Then maybe a second one that I can attach with a top cover like yours. As well as the thicker plastic on the front. This looks great love the easy access with the rollers too.

Question, how many bagged and boarded comics fits in each drawer? If you leave say enough empty space. To actually be able to look through them. When you flip them forward toward yourself when searching for a certain issue. I have roughly twenty half boxes pretty full of bagged and boarded comics right now. What thickness of clear Plex-glass do you suggest using. That won't bend? Thanks
@cougarcomics
2 жыл бұрын
Silver/bronze books about 75-100. Moderns you can put more in because they are thinner but they are also heavier. I used (I think) 1/4 inch plexi but it was too thin. I have since put a board to cover the front and then put the plexi on front of that, with spacers, so I can slide a book in between the board and plexi. The best rollers are not the ones I used. Use the sliders that are one piece, they cost more but will allow you to slide the drawer all the way out. They should be mounted about half way up the side of the drawer
@micpar2

@@cougarcomics Thanks ya I mainly own silver and bronze age comics. Gonna have to write down your measurements. I'm probably going to make one four high but maybe only three or four across.

What is the measurements and thickness of the plexiglass you used here. What thickness do you suggest I use? I want to make mine 4 high by three across. What size top do you think that would be? I used1/4 inch which is too thin. The tough part is finding someone to cut the plexi. You may want to just use a solid front. Not sure about the top, you should be able to figure out once you get to that point. Happy Thanksgiving! No problem helping out!

That is awesome and I thought about building a comic cabinet but I only have 4 short boxes of comics and that's kinda sad considering I been collecting for 15 years and I only have 4 short boxes but I am very picky cause I only by first apps,rare variants or cool cover art I like. You could cut the comic cabinet in half and just put a new board on each side that way it is easier to move but If I ever built one,I would build it in sections like and make it have at least 5 across and 4 down cause 20 comic draws would be plenty for me since I only collect key books anyways and it takes me a very long time to fill up one short box.

Maybe u can tell me how did u cut the plexiglass to size for the front of the comic cabinet. I see they sell them in large sheet at homedepot.
@cougarcomics
5 жыл бұрын
That was the hardest thing to do. You have to score the plastic with a sharp blade, either an exacto knife or razor blade knife. You then quickly snap the plastic and it breaks along the cut. The edge does not always break exactly where you want it. Also, the edges are exteremly sharp so be careful. Best thing would be to search out a store that will cut them for you. Might be pricey but well worth it.

+bobnotaub I built the bottom drawers 1 inch up from the floor. The carpet just makes it look like there is no room. They slide fine. Actually, I would have made it smaller but made maybe 3 of them. This is one huge cabinet that I will have to completely take apart to move. Smaller units would have been easier to move.

Watch this video then started on building one for myself. Done n loving it. Never build anything this big so a little unsure at first but looking back, can't believe how easy it was. Thank you for sharing this video

Thanks
@cougarcomics
@micpar2

Thank you for posting both these videos and for your time and help. Have a very safe and Happy Thanksgiving holiday season. Hugo from Wisconsin.

I used1/4 inch which is too thin. The tough part is finding someone to cut the plexi. You may want to just use a solid front. Not sure about the top, you should be able to figure out once you get to that point. Happy Thanksgiving! No problem helping out!

The cabinets look really good with the actual comic book noting what is in the cabinet. Nice! How would you lock it to prevent thievery, say for instance if you were at work or had a break-in while away in Hawai`i? Or if the neighbor`s son or daughter got into it while you were discussing events at the coffee table and his or her kid-(s) rummaged through those best copies ruining them? Hi, I saw the video where you were putting the comic drawer together. The front half inch outline of the drawer was brownish. In this video the finish piece shows while. Did u paint just the front outline of the comic drawer or used while tape, or something else? Thanks -SA
@cougarcomics
4 жыл бұрын
Yes, I painted them. On the main frame of the unit they have a tape which matches the coating (melamine) It comes in strips and you melt it onto the rough edges with an iron

I did end up moving it to another bedroom. Took the whole thing apart and reassembled it. But I did make it too big. Live and learn, I guess. Be proud of your collection. Maybe u can tell me how did u cut the plexiglass to size for the front of the comic cabinet. I see they sell them in large sheet at homedepot.
@cougarcomics
Have you had any problems with fading of the front books due to light exposures yet??
