According to my memory and CGC. The dates stamped was the date they were put out on. Not the pull date. I know the Marvel Comics database has flaws. I used to buy the old Street Enterprises The comic Reader. At times comics were delayed due to several factors. Mainly terrible snowstorms/ freezing winds/ice storms on the east coast. Causing delays in shipping anywhere west of NYC/NJ I guess. As well as I think DC and Marvel staggered number ones. Or books that were new, or lower selling titles. Not to release it the same week as the top sellers of the time. To give it a chance to be noticed and mainly bought during weeks. Where not so many big sellers were on the racks as well. Like ASM. FF, Avengers, X-MEN. So, books like DD, the Hulk, Ironman and Capt.A had a better chance to sell more copies. Later books like Godzilla, Shogun Warriors, ROM Spaceknight, John Carter of Mars, Howard the duck, Tarzan, Battlestar Galactica, etc.

Yes, the store would stamp the book when they put it out for sale. One small drug store I bought from did the same thing. So these stamps were almost always stamped on a Tuesday or Thursday. I recently picked up a Rom Spaceknight #1 with a faded date stamp on the very top of the back cover of Sept 11 1979. And another copy of ROM Spaceknight in a trade. I traded just for the owner's copy for the very clean date stamp. In the R of the ROM logo of Sept 10th. My guess is since new comics to my knowledge and memory. Were date stamped the day they were put out on the newsstands/ magazine racks. On the Tuesdays and or Thursdays they were put out for sale. I traded him another mint copy of ROM #1 and a copy of. Incredible Hulk #296 with ROM also. That was also mint copy with a Marks Jewelers insert in it. I bought cheap for $3 about a year ago. The only reason I didn't like the Hulk was the smaller numbering/ the issue number. Even when they first came out. I hated the black diamond/ line through the cover barcodes and tiny numbering. Once bagged and boarded. With light glare made it hard to read and I had great eyesight back then in my early/mid 20's too. I hope you and Mrs.Cougar are doing well. I know this video here is nine years old. So not sure if Cosmo is still with you. If so I hope he's doing great too. We miss your videos too. kzread.info/dash/bejne/iml3t8WGn9jah6Q.html

Not sure when these coics were graded off hand. I agree I'd have those two sheets between the pg 1 splash and the last pg of the comic too.
@cougarcomics Жыл бұрын
I know CBCS does not use them. On cgc books I usually see them between the first two and last two pages. Sometimes there are none. Sometimes, like in this video, there is one one. Not sure what they currently do.
@micpar2 Жыл бұрын
Hey Cougar! Happy to see your back! Miss seeing your videos and uncasing some of your CGCs too. I only have eight CGC cased comics. Which I opened every one. Bagged and boarded them all with BCW sealable Silver Age bags and backing boards. Three I got in trades and some cash and bought the other five. Some great looking books. Got a 9.2 ASM #77 in a trade in the eight I mentioned. I've been repairing old comics since 1972. Not a lot but like twenty five over the decades. Mainly replacing missing, damaged pages. Usually had pen marks, initials/names written on pg one. A long with the MVS had been cut out or other pictures or coupons. I'd buy coverless copies or low grade books like Hulks #180-#182, ASM's key issues. Very slowly lift the staples straight up in the center. Using a butter knife or a mail opener. Did this for several customers who either had keys missing things or were damaged. CGC even graded some of them and never could tell I repaired these comics. CGC to me is way over rated. Maybe 50-60% of their graders are experts. But I still believe 40-50% are either just rushing comics out. Or simply thrown on any grade they feel like giving it. To simply make more quick cash. I can see waiting three to maybe six months but that it to me. Hope your back soon to post some more videos. I bought a few CGC early Novas from 1976 and Rom Spaceknights myself. I put the CGC grade/label in the back of the comics backing board inside the issue's bag.
@cougarcomics Жыл бұрын

It's nice to find people who collect with the same passion I do. I can't remember what I had for lunch yesterday but I can remember how much I paid for my ASM #16 back in '72 ! You've been holding back on us! Beautiful books! Yes, Love the date stamp. I'm not there yet with the whole pressing thing. What changed your mind? Tales of Suspense #49 is my favorite of the early Iron Mans. Nicest ASM #55 I've ever seen. The #42 I picked up in 1980 while in college, from another collector I found in the Buyer's Guide. These are some big books in this condition!!!! #19? My all time favorite Spidey cover! The FF books are just perfect! I think we talked about the FF# 43 and how tough that book is to find above a 7.0? Steady, steady..ok...nice #10 !! Great story on selling beat up books for upgrade purposes! #14 is amazing, just amazing! Thanks to your wife for shooting this! Great video, great to hear your voice on something again!
@cougarcomics Жыл бұрын
Hello Allen! Yep, really happy with every book. The first TOS I opened had the tanning which I'm not crazy about but still a nice book structurally. The ASM 55 is so nice for an 8.5 and such a cool cover! The king of the hill is the FF 14 for sure. The video doesn't do it justice. As far as pressing goes, I always said if I ever sold any books that I thought were worth grading that I would probably press it first. My first try was with erod 212 (here on youTube and Instagram) and I got really good results. Then I was gonna sell my copies of ASM 42 and 19 (the upgraded copies shown in this video). I had Mike from Rochester do the work for me. Those were not high enough grades for me to slab but seeing how I was going to sell them I still wanted them pressed to get the most out of them. The 42 had a light round water stain on the cover which he totally got out. I guess I have been converted. I don't plan on pressing anything in my collection except the JIM I showed in this video. Great to here from you!

CBCS never used the paper as far as I know. Not even sure if CGC uses them any more. About 10 years ago I put them in every book and then Steve Borok says you should replace them on a regular basis. So do some research before you sink money into it. I have seen videos of people cutting the inner well with an exacto/razor blade. That scares me, I would be worried about slipping towards the book. Luckily I have not goofed up yet! Good to hear from you!

Awesome books! Love those classic Tales of Suspense and that FF 10!
Thanks, really happy with all the books. Thanks for watching
How did you mount the plexiglass to the front
Just drilled pilot holes thru the plexi and screwed into the front edge of the sides and bottom panels
So happy to see you still making videos 👍
Thanks for watching!
Hey, CC! So great to see a new video and a blockbuster one! I didn’t see the notice that you had a new one but heard Allen Garrett mention it in his new video. I spent lots of time watching this one - I stretched my viewing out so I watched one book at a time - it was like having 11 Cougar videos! Outstanding copies - the condition of your books is top-shelf - that FF #14 - WOW!! - amazing artifacts, just like I remember them. I loved your mention of the FF annual #3 swap - it is truly one of my prized possessions equal to my off-the-rack books!!
It's nice to find people who collect with the same passion I do. I can't remember what I had for lunch yesterday but I can remember how much I paid for my ASM #16 back in '72 ! I treasure all the books I bought off the stands as a kid. Since I started collecting again in '02, I have bought many key and high grade books that dwarf my original collection. Yet those don't measure up to my "original" collection. And I have the same problem with your videos and Allen's! I have the "bell' rung but don't get the notification. Take care
Really great looking books, especially the FF 14. I have always loved that Namor cover.
Hi, I was waiting for you to stop by! The Ff14 is a beauty, actually looks nicer in person. Great to hear from you
I don't know how I missed this video and another one you posted after this. Sometimes KZread really messes up my subscription videos. Really great books! That Tomb of Dracula cover is really nice!
Sold the TOD on eBay, think I got about $200 for it. You don't see this one too often, not sure why. KZread does the same thing to me
Freedom! Great looking books.
Hi Patrick! Freed and then put back in mylar, haha
Great to see you back. Those are very nice books every single one looked like they are under graded to me the FF # 14 is a stunner you must be delighted with it, Best wishes to you and yours for the festive season.
Thank you, same to you .Only a few minor disappointments like the name stamp and the prices written in pencil but those are no big deal. Yep, the FF 14 is really nice. Good thing I pulled the trigger on that one a few years ago.
Holy Comic Book unslabbings
Ha h. Got some nice ones, right?
@@cougarcomics the spider 19 is beautiful. All great books cougar. Nice to see a new video. Hope to see more. 😃
Beautiful, beautiful books. Loved every one of them. Awesome to see a vid from you again!
Hi! Thanks for stopping by. Very happy with every book. Some are even "32_Pages" worthy!
Very nice, so happy your back up on youtube. Always enjoy watching your unslabbing videos. Got some super nice issues here. Have a very Merry Christmas!
Thank you, you too! I never really left, just ran out of stuff to say! Really happy with all the books. Glad to hear from you
Great to hear from you ! I get nervous when i see you cutting the plastic covers off those books ! I couldn't do that without messing up. I have to look into micro-chamber paper. I heard of it but never used it before. Great video !
Fantastic!
Haha, well said!
