31:20 Undertale actually did a really good job with this. If you choose the good path, you don't gain xp, but you make bonds and the game is more fun. If you choose the bad path, you gain xp and start doing more damage, but everyone in the game hates you and that makes it a bit harder edit: life is strange also did a good job with this

Talking about becoming more powerful until the player becomes a danger sounds fun. I've done that before, where one of my dnd players ended up becoming a worm that walks, trying to destory the other party. But I had it player VS player instead of making them an NPC.

Sandeep S. Poplar i think the main connection justin was making was rich american industrialists of a certain age are almost exclusively white. the proclivity to assign a 'bad person' role to a white guy is probably less overt racism and more white guilt than anything else.

While I do find it a bit odd to go "Yeah that just didn't happen we're not going to touch on that at all we're waving that away nope nope nope" when it comes to a setting as historically chaotic as the wild west, we need to keep in mind that they're playing a game for their amusement as well as the amusement for a very large fanbase. They may not feel like they want to confront difficult topics when playing a game, let alone when they're releasing audio of their game sessions publicly to people who listen to this podcast for their own amusement as well. Tabletop games are first and foremost a game, and we shouldn't be forcing people to enter situations they don't want to do in a literal imaginary game.

A Fine Egg they didn’t pull a “that didn’t happen and we won’t discuss it” either. They said straight up that this is a fictional work based on the aesthetic of the Wild West, and doesn’t really take place in our historic reality. They acknowledged the issues of the real life Wild West, but ensured that’s not where this story takes place.

Sometimes when famous people say things, other people get mad, and when you explain stuff, it can help avoid that.

“He’s an evil industrialist and a shitty father, he’s gotta be white right?” That’s kinda fucked, especially since Travis made the whole point of trying to avoid racism and sexism and stuff like that in the setting.
