My grandfather was a tailor and I remember the skirt marker. He hemmed quite a few of my skirts, trousers and dresses. He had a small retirement business on the side, and in the end had to start turning people away, he was that good! Your atomic kitty figurine brought back memories, my great grandmother had a few of them, much to my great grandfather’s dismay! Thank you for sharing your finds!

That hem marker is worth its weight in gold!! I have had one for years (& still have it). I'm short & have to shorten everything. This marker means I don't have to guess at a hem or have to ask someone to pin a hem. If you cannot find chalk dust you can grind some chalk w/a mortar & pestle.

Those late '40s-early '50s saucer/platter hats are pretty hard to find these days!.......Especially ones that aren't all smashed or bent! 🤷‍♀️ The best trick I ever learned though for straightening out misshapen and squished hats it's to boil some water in a tea kettle over the stove, and once the steam starts coming out of the spout.... Hold the hat over the steam and reshape the hat with your fingers. A hat Milliner taught me that a few years ago... and I can't tell you how many vintage hats I've been able to save using that method. 🥰

We had one of those hem markers in our Home Ec sewing lab. It’s the only tool I know of that enables you to mark your own hem solo. I’m looking forward to seeing how it works for you. I’m pretty sure you can still purchase powdered chalk in larger fabric stores. There are few things that make a gal feel pretty than a silky, full length slip. Enjoy your lovely finds!

Yes! We had one in the costume shop of my university theatre. Our Draper used it in every fitting! Even though I was there to help, lol. You can definitely still get the powdered chalk! So useful! I’ll have to keep an eye out for one, myself!

There is powdered chalk that is used by quilters to mark their quilt design. Check the area with quilt supplies at JoAnnes or a quilting supply store. I have some.

You got an Amazing deal on that Kitty! I love your style and all the treasures you share with us. My Mom was born in the 30’s so I remember all her treasures from the 50’s through the 80’s. I’ve collected a few things myself. I have some green glass and some colored glass ash trays. I don’t smoke I just like the way they look. I recently got my first pair of vintage inspired prescriptions glasses. I think my love of vintage things will continue for a long time. 🥰 I almost forgot. My Mom had 2 lady head vases and I was able to find one of them on eBay for $20. She has a few chips on her but otherwise in good shape. I remember her being bigger but as a kid I guess she looked bigger to me. She has a white hat on with pink flowers and a scarf with gold polka dots. I think of my Mom every time I look at her.

Johnny Cash was cracking me up! And you will love the skirt marker-it is actually very useful in marking hems when you sew alone. I can’t wait to see your Christmas dress too. The head vase is stunning-I’ve only seen pictures of the Christmas ones! My favorite was the big kitty❤️😻

The head vase! She's so perfect! I have a handful I bought when I was younger. You could find them at thrift stores then because they weren't yet collectible. Compared to prices I've seen online for Christmas head vases, she was a steal!

I love the tall cat 🐈 figurine, the blue/white dress 👗 looks lovely on you. Perhaps soaking the dress in baking soda and water may help, good luck! I recognized the dress hemming device, my friend had a a notions store. She also sells notions online & she also boils white clothing to make them bright white. JohnyCash 😅🤣😂.

I have a skirt marker that was my mom's and possibly my grandmother's who was a seamstress. These are totally practical. I have a picture of my mom in the 50s wearing a Pendleton jacket. She had that same jacket into the 1980s

Love watching vintage shopping videos. You have so much choice and the prices are so reasonable. Here in Australia most antique stores and thrift shops are a bit expensive. And we don't have such a variety of lovely dresses.

We have skirt chalk markers at work. They are very handy. Just remember to place the marker very close to the fabric in order to get a crisp, accurate line. Otherwise the line just looks like a puff of dust!

The head vase, Yes a great find. I m not into cat statues, but I might have bought that one as well, it makes me a fan of a cat vase.

My yearbooks look just like that one. Same hairstyles same clothes.

Loved the Christmas lady head vase. I'm glad you took it. Never seen one like this before either! The cat statue 😻. The black pancake hat is so Dior New look, especially if worn tilted on the side.

I used to have a hem marker but don’t know what happened to it. It was a great gadget. I have a head vase which belonged to my mother-in-law and it is lovely. I keep it on my lingerie dresser. It’s impossible to find a half slip these days let alone a whole slip. The one you found is pretty. The dress looks prettier on you than on the hanger.
