Combating Raised ICP (video 1): Patient Positioning and CO2 Management
The first of two videos (video two still being worked on) looking at the management of raised Intracranial Pressure (ICP).
This video focuses on reducing the volume of blood in the brain to help reduce pressure, looking at;
-How patient positioning can help to improve the drainage of blood away from the brain,
-The promotion of vasoconstriction via CO2 management (with a mechanical ventilator) to reduce pressures.
This video assumes knowledge of the Monroe-Kelly Hypothesis. Please see previous video to learn more: • ICP Control & the Monr...
The Human Body Oversimplified aims to present topics around Human Physiology and Healthcare in a way that easier to understand. We use simple animations and jargon-free explanations in order to teach the basics well. We don't necessarily aim to teach the topic to advanced levels, but instead, give viewers a good understanding of the fundamentals on which they can continue to build on.

@@thehumanbodyoversimplified5381 Don’t suppose you know anything about occipital neuralgia?

@@1234567robbie not a lot I'm afraid!
I was told my intracranial pressure was due to excess air in the head. Like wise when I feel my ears randomly pop and discharge air, or I burp, I do feel my head pressure decrease. Would you have any suggestions for furthering the alleviation of this type of intracranial head pressure? Thank you

Hi Josh, I work I an ICU so all the interventions I would perform for ICP tend to be quite drastic and more aimed at preventing major brain damage! I don't think I'm the best person to advise you. bw Dan
