I believe it’s illegal in Wisconsin. Best way to find out for sure is to call an conservation warden in the area. Their phone # can be found on the WI DNR website, I think it was. I’ve heard that as long as fish is caught in the mouth, it is a legal caught fish. These fish will bite flies and lures and skein/spawn sacs. Best way is to annoy them by constantly getting bait towards them, and they will bite out of reaction. They are constantly chasing each other and biting each other, and they’ll bite whatever annoys them. The video with my coho salmon, you can clearly see the coho turn it’s head to bite my fly as soon as I got my fly right in front of it. It’s really a game of patience at times with these fish. All fish caught were reaction biters. Hope this helps. Good luck! The salmon should be coming in soon, if not already in the tribes.

As for some of the comments: If the poachers were native, you think they would have identified themselves as such, or least I would have, to appease the folks filming. One can criticize someone’s fishing methods, if they are illegal in nature but you should never criticize someone’s legal catch. Boots or not, it’s the anglers choice of what legal fish to possess/consume. If an Angler takes an initiative to attempt to protect angling or the species, let’s try not to be critical of all the other things they chose not to focus on at the time ie. the trash on the bank of the river. Well done poster, I wish you continued success and passion for the sport.

Where I live in NH we have a small run of Atlantic Salmon and it’s a stream of this same size and people will snag them and the local wardens are busy with deer season so it being a fly fishing only area we self police, I’ve seen people be forced to leave and much worse. I wish it didn’t come to that but the Salmon hit streamers and nymphs like crazy so there’s no reason to snag other than people being impatient fucks.

if you care so much about the salmon, show that by helping clean up that area, sounds like you fish there often, maybe clean it up!!! get that broken net out of the water, get the tarp out, stack it on the shore at the least, showing the fish some respect so they have a clean habitat to spawn. snagging is a problem but it is the last problem in this video .

Maybe that’s how they fish south of the border. I would’ve called the DNR

I see snaggers ever year. I always wanna say something but also don’t want to start fights. It does piss me off tho.

Yes, you are correct they don’t feed. But they do reaction bite and will bite baits, flies etc. Just gotta keep annoying them.

Anti flossing? Snagging in mouth? I get not dragging a treble into the fish but fish hit those beads just like anything else.

Yes, these fish still hit flies and beads. I have another vid with a coho taking in my fly. They are reactive biters during the spawning runs and not actively feeding.

It’s good to show what happens in the rivers and streams around here but you had enough time to get a cop/game warden down there. I would of definitely thrown stuff at them to deter them… Just my opinion
