Sometimes you may capsize without being able to effect a proper above surface back deck roll set-up... when that happens, make this your go to move.

I'm not sure about step 7 "... right blade and ... right knee ... pulling towards each other ..." I think my right blade and right knee are both going in the same direction (to the left). If i need to, i may finish the same way i finish a conventional roll by pulling the right blade away from my right knee. (I can do 'both' types of roll but am no expert.)

Is a forward finishing back deck roll better than finishing on the back in combat? Guess I'm asking what's easier and more reliable, I can do a back deck roll but don't trust it on the river yet.
