Colt was the only manufacturer at the begging.. The government forced Colt (who owned the rights to the M16 purchased from Armalite) to allow other manufacturers to make the M16, so there would not be a sole source for production..Colt did get a royalty from all of the other M16's manufacturers..All manufacturers had to follow the TDP, there were no other versions..The butt stock was not polymer but fiber filled fiber glass..The M16A2 had a polymer but stock..The hole in the hand guard did not fit a Picatinny rail but a screw for a Colt scope mount..Stoner was wrong about the FA and military test proved him wrong..The AK, M1 Garande, M1 carbine and M14 had a FA called a reciprocating charging handle..The C on the barrel stands for Colt..The weightless buffer was called the Edgewater buffer that was set up for stick powder..The heavier buffer was made by Colt to stop bolt bounce resulting from the use of ball powder, but also had the effect of slowing the cycle rate down to spec..

I worked with a guy who was a Vietnam vet, he said the first M-16's to come in-country had MATTEL embossed on the stock. 🤷‍♂

Sounds like bullshit Mattel never made any such thing the whole Mattel thing was because M16 was referred to being very lightweight compared to the old traditional rifles etc M14
