If you want to be authentic you have to give her one of her french names. The most frequent was "La Veuve" a.k.a The Widow. When she was a very hard working gal at the time of the French Revolution (about 40,000 clients in two years) she was called Louison, Louisette or Mirabelle. Prettier isn't it? Believe it or not, when she was invented by Dr Guillotin, she was considered as an humanistic improvement compared to other ways of being put to death, like pyre burning, axe decapitation, quartering or dismemberment. In all bad taste she was also called "National Shaver" "The Ream Cutter" "The Bike" and "The Regretful Ride" During her 150 years of activity the sentence"Tout condamné à mort aura la tête tranchée" became a kind of refrain the best known sentence in the French Penal Code. She was put in a well deserved retirement in 1981 , but her last job was 4 years before. So it's up to you. I like Mirabelle

@@LaughCryDIYthanks a lot for your appreciation. I'm French and in my generation (unashamed boomer) most of the elements of my comments were known by the general french public. Second in my youth I was a staunch abolitionist and researched the facts supporting my views, among these: a less violent justice system goes along with a less violent society, a decrease in murders was correlative with the decrease in the number of executions ! By the way, I love your attitude in decoration. You made spaces look luxurious spending pennies. I call your style "dreamy mid century maximalism" and it's this style I would like to attain in my house. I live in Tel Aviv suburbs by the beach, in a crumbling stuccoed building but my flat is big and the terrace huge. Tel Aviv was a was a very cool place to live before the judicial coup 😔. You would have like the vibe.
What a great makeover! Also love the concept of "bare minimum makeover for the budget we have” His flat has gorgeous windows btw!great bones and you gave it the makeover it deserves😍

Their place is an incredible craftsman! So much light! And interestingly, a lot of built-ins and decorative moulding. So much that in other rooms, the cats can walk the perimeter of the room without every touching the floor. Baguette would love it. I also definitely want to do more lazy girl/bare minimum makeovers to show how much you can do with very little.

The way Josh looked at you after you told the phone in the balloon trick. He was like "not magic" 😅 If you must surrender to something being off-center add something narrow- a narrow mirror, a sconce, a shelf, or a narrow picture in the space. That will make it appear more deliberate. I'm sure I'm not telling you something you don't already know 😅 Beautiful makeover, as usual! ❤️

Impressive how you made those walls disappear, lol! Seriously, the right mix of colors in decor changed the room completely without paint. Katie, how many colors and in what percentage do you use them? I am so monochromatic and need to break free from that. Love you and thank you for your awesome talents!
@LaughCryDIY
10 ай бұрын
Haha. It’s ok to be monochromatic too! The general rule of thumb is to do 60% main color, 30% second, 10% accent. I still kinda feel like you can do whatever you want, but that can be a helpful guide.
I love the style of this room, those windows and built-in' book nook, always wanted a house with those. The ceilings are super cool. What a great house; saw the built in the dining area also. Blinds and cats, always a situation, waiting to happen. I raise mine 1/2 way up, so they can see out, they tend to leave them alone then, of course I have to have drapes to pull closed at night, but they go in behind the drapes to get to the windows. It looks really nice, the space actually looks so much larger. Nicely done!
@LaughCryDIY
10 ай бұрын
Yep, it was actually the go-behind-the-windows thing that was what damaged the blinds the most. Haha. But yes, their house is such a beautiful craftsman with that amazing ceiling and built-ins. So good.
Since it is Saturday, I want to send all the well wishes to you and yours. Your videos are my go-to-saturday morning ritual(allowing myself to just KZread into the weekend *weird* I know). 10 ай бұрын
I would love to tackle a dorm! And, yes, we were really trying to problem solve for the cats. Haha. Interestingly, Josh said much of the blinds damage came from them trying to get in between the blinds and the windows and then getting sassy from there. Since the bamboo is more like one tight weave sheet and doesn’t split into pieces like the others, they have been much more respectful….for now.

In terms of the lantern size, how would a sloped ceiling/walls affect the measurement? Like the floor might be 20 but by the time you get to the light it’s 2?
@LaughCryDIY

Mmm it would depend on how much clearance you have for the fixture to hang down. Like if you have a vaulted ceiling, and your floor space was 10 ft long by 8 ft wide, and you have clearance to hang down at a reasonable height, I would still go with an 18-inch pendant.

Looks great! I do a little decorating myself, after seeing the reveal , my thought was that I personally would have tried the loveseat under the window, and the couch more or less where it is. I would have put the “ends” of the arm rests together, and maybe put a square end table to fill the corner created by the sofa and love seat. Then the recliner could have gone farther to the left ( where the first seat of the loveseat was). I would have gone for some kind of window film ( maybe more cat proof). Would love to hear your critique. I do think it looks fabulous, and I want that plant stand !❤
