Using the caracther I looked up to or pastors I listened too or nuscian To emotional play me for funds. It worked on one occasion took me for 4,000$. Until I did the research and talked to the actual hospital in Nigeria he said he was at thru a "friend" needing money for a apparent heart surgery.

Some may have been on this planet the same number of decades, and maybe have had "normal" (I've had adventures!! and change!!) but they have learned NOTHING, for what ever reason. @@llow261 No, there's a lot more to it than just being forgetful. People with dementia are often belligerent with their loved ones and refuse to admit that they are losing a grip on reality. But I also agree that there have been young people scammed as well, but mostly for similar reasons, they are belligerent and ignore the red flags because they want to believe that they are smart. But let's not overlook that there are a million red flags for these so called "victims", and they deliberately choose to ignore them because their ego won't let them behave rationally.

I caught the threatening ramping up the scam. BUT dad was ALWAYS combative when even remotely challenged, so when he started to slip, it seemed "normal". And 1.6 million in "kash", the family legacy, went out the door.

I believe her coz just last week I sent Scarlett Johansson $250 so she can get the camera on her phone fixed.

That won't work. There have been catfish victims on Dr. Phil who came face to face with the real people behind the photos, and they still didn't believe they were being scammed. She knows she's being scammed, but she's enjoying the fantasy and danger too much to quit.

When I was in middle school, there was this girl that used to ride our school bus who thought that one of the pop stars of the time was in love with her. She would write him letters all the time. She was totally convinced that eventually someday they will get together and get married. She was delusional and bizarre. I’ll never forget that girl. So sad.

I’ve talked to ladies going through this. This lady gets a lot of attention from the scammer and she loves him so she doesn’t want to believe it could be possible that he is lying to her.

Alz. and dementia (and a LOT of nervicular issues like MS) are non-linear: they develop extremely slowly, it comes and goes. this case is pretty OBVIOUS, but the money is also obviously GONE.

I saw someone selling a truck on Facebook. They wanted me to send them gift card numbers and then they would deliver the truck. I laughed and laughed and laughed.

I think these woman has gone so far that she probably knows she's being scammed but to admit to herself how foolish she's been is too hurtful so she has to keep going

It’s time to shut these scammers down on Facebook and everywhere. They are attacking the most gullible and destroying families.

She is a MARRIED mother of two? What a delusional cheater! (Emotional infidelity is still infidelity).

Yeah, her kids/family should seriously think about taking away her car keys and credit cards/checks. The elderly and/or mentally incapacitated can do a world of damage to themselves and others She's probably wiring her retirement away to this/these fraudsters.

No famous person will ever reach out to be your friend on social media. Not ever. NEVER. Fake scammer accounts always will. If lonely people prone to delusion, like this woman (who is lonely while married) would keep that as a mantra in the forefront of their minds while on the internet they would immediately block fakes and save themselves a ton of grief, financial hardship and wasted time.

That’s why we put mom into a retirement home, made her bank account a joint account and transfer most of her money into a separate account for her bills. She fell for an email scam and couldn’t wait to tell us how she was going to get a ton of money from a Nigerian prince. There’s got to be a way to protect these elderly people.
