Colorado Gardeners: What to Do in June

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

If you're going to do it in the garden, do it in the month of June. The Front Range Gardener shares five things that you can do in your June Garden.
Anything and everything can be planted in June. This is the end of the spring planting season for perennials. It's a great time to plant containers and beds of annuals. June is finally the month to get warm season crops like tomatoes and zinnias into the ground.
Sunflowers are incredibly easy to grow from seed. Plant sunflowers in June, and enjoy giant blossoms in August. The birds and the bees will thank you.
Conifers such as pine, firs, and spruces go through an annual growth spurt in late spring. This makes June the ideal month to prune conifers for shape.
Wildfire preparation is increasingly important in Colorado. All flammable vegetation, fallen leaves, and pine needles should be removed within five feet of the home. Out to 30 feet, trim grasses to four inches high, remove shrubs from beneath trees, and remove the lower branches of mature trees. Colorado State Forestry Service Guide to Home Preparation is found at csfs.colostate.edu/wp-content....
June is peak growing season for lawns. Set your mower to 2 1/2 to 3 inches. Cut no more than one third on the height of the grass. You may need to mow every 5-7 days.

Terrific video, thank you! Do you have any top recommendations for flowering plants that can stand up to Castle Rock 100+ degree full sun temps in an exposed garden bed?

Are you looking for annuals or perennials? Zinnias and marigolds do well in heat. It's just tough to plant them in heat because of transplant shock.

Colorado State University has a great list of shade trees for the Front Range. The page numbering is really wonky in this PDF, so you have to read it in a alternating fashion. chrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/static.colostate.edu/client-files/csfs/pdfs/trees_for_frontrange.pdf
