I don’t have a Tumblr I’m using a plastic container and plain stuff in there with holes for my compost but I don’t remember to store it says in there should I get some more meds to help it because I don’t really have the strength to Stir all the Food and stuff for the compost

When we lost our beloved cat to old age we buried him in the back yard. We didn't have a garden of any kind, but a bird must have pooped some seeds there. The next spring we had a large flowering bush where we buried our kitty. Something about seeing the circle of life in such an amazing way helped me with the loss of my favorite cat.

🐣--- G'day! 2:58 - Regarding Mark's point that eggs can be hatched to produce more birds, I just wanted to assure people who perhaps don't keep poultry that eggs will only hatch if they're fertile, and you'll only get fertile eggs if you keep a male bird with your females. My (6) chickens are all ladies, and if they're content, not stressed and well fed they'll usually lay one egg each per day, (it depends on their mood). I don't keep a cockerel/ rooster 🐓 because I don't want to breed chickens. The eggs my ladies lay are 100% unfertilised and can never hatch. There's no life or even potential life in them. No mini chickens are being terminated when the eggs are scrambled. Unfertilised eggs contain fat, protein, minerals, water and air, and are no more alive than a fresh pancake mix. I just thought it was worth mentioning. Some viewers might not be aware of all the 'facts of life' of keeping chickens. (🐦🐦 + 🐝🐝!)

Yup. I fertilized eggs are chicken periods, essentially. Very good thing to mention because lots of kids and even adults don’t know how birds propagate because it’s different from mammals.

I had a little chicken (polish crested,iirc) that could lay up to four eggs a day. They were about half the size of regular eggs, and had a slightly blue tinge so they looked as if they glowed in the shaded place she liked to lay in. 🍳🥚🐣

I used to have a sign at the boundary of my property “trespassers shall be composted”....

This video made me feel ever happier with our choice to do a natural burial for my mum. The cemetery is filled with UK heratage trees, each one is atop the grave of someone and when I visit with the children she never got the chance to meet, we can see the blossoming cherry tree grow bigger and bigger each year. It's really a beautiful thing to turn death into life.

I'm glad you posted about this. I've been to see my burial plot in rural dorset, uk. It's a natural buried ground where everyone chooses a native tree/shrub to be planted soon after burial. My name is Hazel so a Hazel will be planted. It can feed off of me and feed the local wildlife.

I buried a beloved old white cat named Snowball in a simple pine box about 2 feet down. Planted a snowball bush on top of it. That little bush start grew to be more than 30 feet tall over the next 15 years and had blooms on it 12" in diameter. Most beautiful Snowball bush in Utah, USA, ever grown!

My father-in-law is without a doubt the most "frugal" man I know. Years ago, he found a huge dead shark washed up on shore in S.C. He brought it home and buried it beside a fig tree. Within a few years the tree was huge.

At least these animals get respected by being buried but you do have to give the buzzards the credit they deserve from their role in helping to clear the carcus's from roads, etc.

We have a nursery. One year a customer returned bringing me a basket of the biggest, juiciest oranges i have ever seen. A tree he bought from us 10 years earlier was doing very well. I asked him for his secret. "Well, "he said, "we are a Philippine family and we BBQ at least 4 nights a week and eat a lot of fish. My BBQ sits next to that orange tree. I clean and wash the fish with the garden hose right over the root zone of that tree." So, fish emulsion 4-5 times a week with fresh water equals a very happy and generous orange tree.

I use the water from my aquariums when it’s time for their water change and it’s completely transformed what used to be pretty dry nutrient deficient soil. Nature gives us everything we need♥️

I recently lost my favorite dog. He was a large boned chocolate lab. By far the smartest and most kind pet ill ever have. We buried him and planted an imperial rose and peonies above him. I've never seen a rose so big and beautiful. What a nice way to remember my best friend.

My retired commercial fisherman grandpa "Diddy" (not P Diddy just plain Diddy) used to bury the fish heads, guts, gills, etc into his tomato garden after a day of fishing. He used a stake to mark the plant/area of the last "burial". He had a bumper crop of tomatoes every year. He gardened and deep-sea fished (alone) until 93 yrs young. I sure do miss him.

“Yes it is sad when animals get killed or come to a premature end, like young Skippy the kangaroo here, but on a positive note, he did make good bananas”. That one got me 😂

They are beginning to legalize it in some states. There is growing interest as that as a funeral option. I would love it as well!! Ask a Mortician KZread channel just recently posted what is happening as funeral composting gains traction.

If you live near the sea and you can collect kelp from the beach, it makes a great fertilizer that you can bury in garden beds.

if you connect yourself to the force you are guided by it which is what everyone calls happiness. Every species on the planet except humans are on autopilot in sync with nature. We think we're intelligent and more advanced, but in truth we are poor because we lost all we had and now have to manually work to get them. We were once comfortable in the trees, caves or simple huts but now we can't live like that anymore we've lost that resilience. Look at all our technological advancements. they haven't improved our lives in the contrary they are stripping more and more of our relationship with nature and the force. It makes us sick and we have to find cures now for diseases that are a result of our dystopian lifestyle.

I had a 1 acre garden as a teenager and would head to the Mississippi River to catch carp to bury in my garden. Great raspberries!

Sprinkled my hair clippings in my garden. not only would it help with decomposition, I am told the human scent would keep some of the midsized animals away.

I buried ET in my garden and my tomato harvest was out of this world

That actually reminded me - 10 years ago I rented a place and built a great vege garden (which made the landlord put the rent up, because suddenly the overgrown weed ridden yard was productive and increased the property value, grrr😡!) Anyway, planting out my cherry tomatoes one day, my necklace must have snapped and I lost my Miraculous Medal in the garden. That summer we had tonnes of tomatoes - it was the legendary crop of that garden! 🍅 Wonder how the next tenants are getting on....

Rabbit manure is said to be the most complete manure of all. I've taken rabbit manure and used it on one side of the garden and other types for the other side and by far, my "rabbit-blessed" plants out grow the others.

I bury old rusty scrap metal a foot or so down near or under citrus trees. My father told me my grandfather always did it and had amazing results. So far I have to agree. Also to rake all the fallen leaves from grape vines and use as mulch around the vines. Great channel. Your enthusiasm is infectious. :)

My goal is just to not throw into the "trash" anything compostable: so all my food waste goes into the garden, usually just on the top (if its dry, like peels or teabags), or buried somewhat (such as fruit). The only things i exclude from this are things with salt or arsenic, which can't break down. So, if you have old milk, expired pasta, shredded paper, hair, cotton, etc., distribute and/or bury it in garden. If the items are slightly salty, like bread or prepared food like old salad. i distribute that across my lawn, and the small amount of salt will leach down into the groundwater eventually, and doesn't do any harm.

Hello from Tennessee, I have seen a lot of KZread videos on gardening but yours have been the most informative of them all. I would never have thought of burying a dead animal for fertilizer in my garden. But then again I live in the USA and they see things differently. I love the fact that I don't have to put all my kitchen waste first in a compost bin before I put it in the garden. As for eggs...wow how many eggs have I tossed in the garbage disposal because they were bad. I could have been using them in the garden. My grandparents were German immigrants. Grosspapa always buried kitchen scraps in the garden, and the plants thrived!

I have buried all my pets and chickens in the garden and often planted a tree over them. The the tree is named after the animal.

Oddly enough, I looked down and there was one!

Good to add the instruction to cover larger carcasses with planks or bricks. We buried geese, ducks and a sheep on our land in Cornwall, UK, and learned very quickly to make a heavy cover. The foxes were brilliant exacavators, and would dig up bits of beloved pets, then leave them around the property, if not protected !

While it traumatized you, consider the fox side of things. That really made a good meal and they were so happy to not be hungry that night.

Enjoyed your video. Thinking your garden as a worm farm is a unique perspective I hadn’t heard. Personally I like burying cinnamon sticks, or sprinkling cinnamon powder around-really helps with rooting, with lowering mold and pest control. Also using the water after I’ve boiled and cooked something, whether it be eggs or some carrots, I like to use that for watering when timing aligns. Or I was taught to make “tea” with onions and garlic skins, I find it reduces fungal and buggy problems. Glad I found your channel...

Good point. I wonder about Asian spices that do not grow in the US but we carry in our pantry. If it gets too old, like say whole allspice, nutmeg, cloves, would it do any harm to use in the garden?

When we purchased our first house our children were young. I put in a sizeable garden. The garden had a good yield. When it was time I brought in a basket of freshly picked vegetables. My daughter refused to eat any. We asked why and she said because they came out of the ground. She did recover. She now owns her own home with a garden and chickens.

I’m sharing this video with my husband and friends because they think I’m crazy. I have an herb garden that is my bunny graveyard. My other gardens have chickens and other animals that have died over the years. We have funerals, say prayers, and put our beloved critters in the ground. I figured it would be good for the soil and we always have memories of the little animals that have passed. We have had problems with coyote attacks over the years, so we’ve had some heartbreaking times. But it does my heart good to see the beautiful plants that arise from the soil, nourished by the precious creatures. I also use the dirt out of my chicken yard, and the shavings and poop from my bunnies and guinea pig habitats in the gardens. I had a pumpkin patch that went crazy and overtook my side yard. Two years ago, I had a watermelon patch instead, and it did the same thing. I’ve had neighbors ask if they can have their kids clean out my chicken yard and take the dirt home for their gardens. We also throw our yucky chicken eggs out into the gardens and mix them in with the dirt. For being in southern Nevada, we’ve grown some pretty nice plants. Love this channel… I am now motivated to get out there and work in the yard… 109° or not!😎🔥

we burried our dog after he passed, under his favorite pine tree, and after a year; it flurished! It was always sad looking and didn't have many pine cones but the year after, there were so many pine cones that when they opened our stone grey house turned yellow in the wind!

When my large German Shorthaired Pointer dog died at 19 years, I buried him under my backyard lemon tree with many a tear in my eye. Now, the wonderful abundance of lemons also supplies 4 neighbours.

I buried each of my old schnauzers next to a fruit tree to honor them and it does help with the growth. Natures way. Every spring when they are blooming I remember each of them and the memories of our time together. ❤️🌱🌷

I have buried some goats in my garden when I didn't want to butcher them and they had an untimely death due to snake bite or some other. I have also buried many of the other things you speak of with good results... always organic!

I used to live in a dump/ homestead in the desert of New Mexico. The people used to ferment animal carcasses in troughs of water and use the water to irrigate their plants. It was gross, but resourceful!

This is the most Australian story I’ve ever heard.

Okay, now you're just making me jealous. I am so ready for some crawfish. Do you have chickens? If so, let your chickens have the shells and heads to peck around on for a couple of days. Mine love them. After two days I go in and rake up what's left and bury it in the garden. Bonus... if your chickens eat enough crawfish tails and heads their eggs will have a slight boiled crawfish taste. 😋

From Canada we also add wood ash from our fireplace. Not to much but it does add great nutrients. Love your videos!

Mark I've buried all of it for years along a line from one end of my 60' X 7' raised bed garden including collected poo and hair from my 2 pooches. After reaching one end of the garden I begin a second line repeating the process one hole at a time. By the time I complete a cycle everything is incorporated except larger pieces of wood that can't be chipped. Rainy season helps. Good luck mate. Stay strong.

Sadly, she was probably killing the birds as well as watching them. I'm not blaming her, she was a cat doing what cats do. Please cat owners, if you live near Australian bushland, keep your cats inside not only to protect the wildlife but also as a courtesy to your neighbours who may not want cats in their gardens. I am planting native plants to encourage birds in my garden, but they are being chased away by the neighbour's cat who has taken to hanging around here.

For the last 40 years, all our beloved dogs, chicken, goats, birds, cats, etc that passed on have been fertilizing the rambutan and fruit trees in our tropical garden. The fruits were delicious and we were glad to know our pets enriched the cycle of life.

I just came here from a video about planting sardines in your garden, he said to place coffee grinds on top of the carcass because its acts as a pest/animal deterrent and a fertilizer. You could utilize both coffee grinds and the boards together for extra protection from animals

He looks like a giant kindergartner. Especially when he gets all excited about worms. Great channel! Makes me learn and smile :)

Every hair clipping and nail clippings goes into my house plants and garden, along with the tea and egg shells! My mother does her own compost and scatters her fireplace ashes on the lawn and garden in the winter. Her garedns are always crazy full!

I have a ton of snails in my aquarium and whenever one dies, I bury it in my garden. Sometimes I do this with my fish, but since they're so small, I usually take them to a nearby ant bed and give them a little treat. They're usually completely devoured by the next day

When I lived in Queensland I had a lot of palms. I used to bury the fronds in the Veg garden. They turned into terrific compost.

I love your videos. I did finish my Hort trade cert in 1989 and then went on the half do the diploma of landscape, both at Charlestown. And you are as interesting as any of the teachers and you don't teach anything incorrectly. Watching your program gives me incentive.

I have an aquarium, and when I clean it I use the 'dirty' water on my plants. It is full of both macro and micro nutrients.

I keep goldfish in homemade ponds just for that reason. I use the large plastic tubs for cement mixing. The fish eat algae growing on tubs, and insects, etc. I use water on plants, then add fresh water from rain barrels. Make sure to keep piles of rocks in ponds so frogs can get out. I place a few branches criss-cross to keep birds from getting at fish. I just buy a dozen "feeder fish" in spring for less than 2$.

I bury the after-birth from when we have a lamb or two here on the farm, tons of nutrients in them, and it cuts down on the flies! :)

I do the same thing when my goats have their kids. If the chickens or the doe doesn't get it cleaned up quickly, I put it into the garden. And yes it sure cuts down on the flies.

True story. After watching this video today I was driving back from a client's house when I noticed the car in front of me was dragging an animal. It took me 3 miles or 1.5 kilometers to stop. (Not sure of American to Australian conversion rates) I went to rescue the animal and found the slightly burnt remains of a cat. I apologized to the lady for being crazy and pulling her over. She felt bad about the cat but i reminded her that crows need to eat too. Something I learned from a Hopi elder. I brought the cat home and was like what are we going to do with this carcass. But then I remembered your video. We named the cat Peaches. Guess where I planted her? Yep, my peach trees. Thanks for the updates and free education.

What a fabulous video! I am new to the notion of burying unrotted things, but I dry my eggshells, grind them finely and sprinkle it around my lettuces and spinach to keep the slugs at bay.

I have 5 huge juniper trees on my side yard. Anyone who has tall juniper knows it can be very messy and piles up under the trees. That mess if left alone or thrown into a pile will break down into a fine dirt. It has actually made up the majority of the dirt for my garden after composting. The debris also makes a good filler...which inturn will become dirt.

Just found these, and I'm really enjoying them. Relatively new volcanic soil is mineral rich-especially in iron. We occasionally put rusty nails in the garden with plants who really like the iron--especially things like orchids.

@@kimblevinsnaylor4686 Probably, though putting the nail in the pot allows the iron to leach into the soil over time. Ferns also like it. Not sure of others. Our soil is generally rich, anyway, so I don't have to do it often, except for orchids.

You obviously don't live in Australia. If you are talking about dead animals and driving, Aussies who drive anywhere ever near the country think first of kangaroos. They have a habit of feeding near paved rural roads at dawn and dusk. In a dry environment the runoff from the road is a micro-climate where lush grass will grow that attracts kangaroos and they may think the grass is greener on the other side of the road just when you drive past= dead kangaroo.

We add shredded paper to our very sandy well drained soil to help hold on to a little more water. The main constituent is the junk mail that is proliferating here and anything with personal details on. Torn up cardboard boxes also work as long as you remove any plastic tape. We just make a trench about two spits deep lay in the paper quite thickly, water well and fill in.

Urban Brew (AUS) are developing a home compostable coffee pod for a range of machines. I currently scoop out the contents and use the grounds in the garden. I'm definitely lining up for their compostable pods. Their coffee tastes great too. :-) I bury wool skirtings and waste wool (not suitable for spinning) in the garden as part of a modified hugelkultur system.

I'm going to head to my local home & garden store today to see if they have any kangaroo fertilizer.

@@savagehippie1453 some salt is actually good for plants. I've used sea weed in my garden for years without rinsing it and I've never had problems. Seaweed is full of all the minerals in the ocean and is great for plants. Granted if I was to use seaweed as a full mulch around my plants I would likely rinse it as that might be too much salt. Any kind of meat/protein is a great source of nitrogen and I think if you buried shark it would be just fine

“I buried the kangaroo in the pet cemetery”. So those two bodies I buried in my backyard are actually helping my garden?

I have been a vegetarian for the whole of my adult life ... and your attitude is spot on mate. I dont eat meat for many reasons, mainly to do with doing the least harm. I dont judge people who eat ethically farmed meat, and frankly what you showed here is the most ethical way to treat carcasses. We will all eventually return to the earth. That kangaroo became part of the soil and part of that tree. That is the circle of life.

Well I'd consider this video, more than anything, to be about recycling and eco-friendly ways to use organic waste as a supplement for our garden plants and about the betterment or the soil. Seems like a stretch to me that this has anything to do with vegetarianism; you can benefit from these tips and still eat meat products

Hi Mark I mix in shredded paper with my donkey poo and coffee grounds. The worms go nuts for it as long as its mixed well and damp. Love your channel!

Bananas that got too ripe produces prolific flowers, but don't necessarily help fruit set, because a lot of energy continues to the flowers. Could be great for marigolds or anything where you want more and bigger flowers. Also can be good to add later if you want a final new push of flower growth when flowers are slowing down. Just bury under the rootball if possible

The BEST ever Passionfruits came from a vine we planted over the top of a Cow that we had butchered for the freezer. The vine nearly threw the fruit at you when you walked past it!!

Regarding tea - I would be very careful with discarding tea bags as I have found many contain plastics and do not break down. I am regularly picking them out of the compost.

Coffee bags are worse. They simply do not degrade, even in a "hot" compost heap.

My 'add' is corrugated cardboard. Stacks and stacks of it. A layer of wet cardboard, a few food scraps, a handful of dirt, repeat... next thing ya know all those little tunnels are full of little worms, and the big worms move toward the bottom of the stack. It's like a sexy worm hotel or a worm factory, and you can do it anywhere, on the ground, on the beds, in the beds...easy peasy and very fast.

Scientific fact: The greater the variety of things you bury, the more you mathematically approach the "perfect" food with the perfect ratio, variety and quantities of all the nutrients that plants need. So don't hold back on what you bury as long as it is biodegradable of course.

I just ❤ this guy! He looks at his garden as one big, complete ecosystem. This is so lovely to me... Memories of my elders on their farms.

A few weeks ago I found an echidna, of all things, dead on the side of the road. 😥 I'd never seen one in my 52 years of living here. I felt I couldn't just leave it there. I picked it up (carefully) with some greenbags and took it home. I had a passionfruit vine I was about to plant, so I dug a little deeper and gave the echidna a dignified burial, then planted my passionfruit vine on top. RIP little fella

I buried charcoal in my garden. i made some in a firepit, extinguished it with water when it was fully charcoalized to break it up and then mixed it with compost and some microorganism spray. After a few days i buried it in my garden and had very good results. I basically made my own terra preta.

I bury chopped stinging nettles and horse tail weeds full of nitrogen also rusted nails is worth to boil over and dilute 1:10 in water, chilled solution is full of iron for all the plants that yellowed and are limpy and u wish to revie ... Latest learned to bury sponge if planting in small containers at the bottom of to retain water

Not quite "bury" but I'd love to see something like the kinds of food you can "volunteer". E.g. I often transplant the bottoms of onions back into the garden, or if the cherry tomatoes are going bad, I plant them to see if something will sprout.

I have learned so much from you. I will never get to Australia, but it feels like I have a friend there.

I water the garden with my sink water. All the seeds from my plants go into the water. So far I have had volunteer tomatoes, bell peppers, and other vegetables come ups all over my garden.
