Bodycam: Colorado Cop Shoots Woman Who Allegedly Pulled Gun in Traffic Stop

Ойын-сауық

Bodycam footage from July 25th in Westminster, Colorado captured the tense moments leading up to a police officer fatally shooting 46-year-old Alysha Duran during a traffic stop. According to the Westminster Police Department, the officer approached Duran's vehicle, which was stopped facing oncoming traffic, but Duran refused to answer any of the officer's questions. Tensions escalated when the officer noticed Duran allegedly pulling a gun from her center console. The footage shows the panicked officer yelling "What have you got in there?" before quickly retreating behind Duran's vehicle and firing a single fatal shot through her rear driver's side window.

The shooting has sparked debate, with some claiming the officer acted too hastily without giving Duran a chance to explain herself, while others argue the officer followed proper procedure when faced with an apparent threat. The bullet passed through Duran and struck an uninvolved bystander's vehicle windshield, though no other injuries were reported. The veteran officer involved has been placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation into the incident. The Law&Crime Network's Sierra Gillespie provides an in-depth breakdown analyzing the bodycam footage and discussing the controversial shooting.

What he said about America, was said out of pure shock. When a person is put in the position to have to take someones life, they sometimes say thing that dont make much sense. The reporter made it seem as if he was being sketchy somehow, and that rubbed me the wrong way. That man was hurt, confused, worried amongst many other things. He did nothing wrong, he was very polite and was trying very hard to help that woman. She escalated that situation and unfortunately lost her life, that officer did what he had to do.

He just help a soul take their own life. This could have been prevented at many level. First, who in their right mind would approach a park vehicle in the wrong way; without having to wait for back-ups. Once he spoke to the SUV driver, obviously the woman is delusional and in distressed. That should have been a red flag of sensing a danger of something is wrong. Once he saw a firearm, he immidiately panic and beat feet to the rear of the SUV. He exactly knew where his rounds trajectery would be heading. He immidiately used the rear of the SUV for his own safety, not the Jeep's driver or anybody downrange from him. He didn't want to get hit by incoming cars both direction of traffic. Last resorts, he could have attemted to disarmed the woman at arms reach, but he chose to get an ample amount of distance for engagement of shooting her.

As a Dutch Police Detective i also was involved in a Deathly shooting, i know what it feels like to ends somebody’s life………it’s terrible and it took me 8 months before i started working again. Dear Officer Adams………..The feeling will never go away BUT it will heal and the great feeling about going back to work wil come back. Talk about it as much as possible with your amazing colleagues. They always be there for you just like you are there for them if needed. All this will make you stronger at the end. You did what you needed to do, not just to protect yourself BUT also to protect the people around the scene like the woman in the jeep, you saved lives that that day! Never….NEVER forget that! I wish you all the best👮🏾💪🤗Greetings from the Netherlands, Sam

I believe he knew that at that moment, they shared a trauma bond. No one else will know, but those two what that moment felt like. The fact that he started blazing his gun while not being in eminent danger (yet? Because seeing guns in a glovebox is not being in danger), almost killing an innocent bystander because he didn't checked his line of fire tells me he never should be an example for others who serve. If this was in the Netherlands this cop would be "burned at the stake". Chances are it wouldn't even happen here because they patrol by the two and are trained for 4 years...

Firefighters are aware of what their job could involve, but it makes complete sense to feel sympathy for one who witnessed someone die in a burning building. For (good) police officers, their job is keeping the public safe and responding to emergencies. They take the burden of that risk so other people don't have to. That doesn't mean they waive their rights to have emotions about what they experience.

After she was shot the gun was found in her hand with her finger around the trigger. Officer Adams said when she raised the gun, she had the charm held in her left hand. It appears as though it meant something at the time. Officer Adam’s had been on the Westminster police force for 27 years and was an incredibly experienced officer, having served in many responsibilities in the department. When I looked, there are many and speak to his abilities as a police officer, as well as a detective. Just thought whoever does check this video out would be interested in knowing.

The vast majority of cops are the "good ones". Just like every single job in the world, there is always one or two diks in a workplace.

Wow this is heartbreaking, for everyone involved. This officer seems to truly care and I hope we get more like him. I hope this incident doesn’t hurt his career or his thoughtfulness as a human. 😢

Doesn't hurt his career? He murdered a woman. Wtf is wrong with you? This cop should be in jail for murder and wreck less discharge of a firearm. It's sick you people are worried about the murderer and not the victim.

O POLICIAL AGIU DE MANEIRA CORRETA. NÃO MERECE PUNIÇÃO ALGUMA. A MULHER ESTAVA PERTURBADA, E PROCUROU ESSE FIM. 🙄
