Color calibrate your projector - xrite
How to Color calibrate your Projector using the Xrite i1 Display Pro color calibrator.
This is a quick demo on how to calibrate your projector using a calibrator with your PC.

Projectors are awesome as they can display huge images for a very affordable price. They are not rich in color compared to led monitors, especially with some ambient lighting. The color calibration definitely helps with giving the projector a deeper color.
The differences are not easy to see in the quick comparison but there is a subtle difference in the contrast and saturation on the image especially in the blues.
The reason why I chose the Xrite display pro calibrator over the spyder 5 is because of the option to calibrate projectors too.
Too bad we dont have the option to save the color profile to a usb or something and be able to upload it directly on the Benq device.

Yeah this tells you how to correct a colour profile on laptop to projector, but what about colour correcting a projector from another source that isn't a computer? Eg a Chromecast, Xbox, Blu-ray etc.

Good but I want to calibrate the projector, not the sources

Saying you calibrated the projector is a bit of a misnomer. You haven't calibrated the projector at all, you calibrated the Video Output of the PC for use with that projector, screen and ambient light conditions..

Does it just give you a display profile? Can it help you calibrate your display with the in-menu projector settings? So the color is correct for all non-PC inputs?

The colorimeter uses diffused light filter or not?

Does the i1 Display Pro auto adjust the brightness of the projector when it does the calibration?

I don't think the calibrator gave me the option to auto adjusts the brightness of the projector.

If you want to calibrate more than one source to one display, you need a scaler, or similar, equipment, that allows you to make full adjustments per input. I have a DVDO Duo, and it's pretty perfect for the job.

How do we define “as close as possible” in terms of distance of colorimeter to projected image?

maybe a bit late. But as close as possible to the screen without obstructing the light path

Is there more to it than this? So, in a nutshell, it calibrates the projector for you? It seems too easy! Please let me know if there are some 'advanced settings'I need to look at. Does this i1Display calibrate for HDR (high dynamic range)? . thx!

It color calibrates the projector and creates a color profile on your PC. You will only be able to view content in this color profile when projecting content from your PC. It doesn't have any settings for HDR, it only has 'white point' and 'gamma' settings.

"So, in a nutshell, it calibrates the projector for you?" NO. He is only changing the color profile on his PC\Laptop. This does absolutely nothing to the projector and certainly doesn't calibrate it.

Before was better. I have an Epsom 5350 UE model . There is not much you can do to improve the picture. It okay out of the box . Sometimes it a matter of preference. Thanks for the video.

bamlin52 its actually not a matter of taste. The point of calibration is to get as close as possible to the industry standard. To have the correct balance of red/green/blue in all the colors and insure your TV is displaying an image correctly

Wait a minute. So you say that I can only use the custom profile from a calibration if im only using the PC i did it with? That doesn't make sense...can't you save that profile in your projector for bluray use etc???

Unfortunately it can't, its a shame. Unless your projector has a function to upload color profiles which the Benq w1080st and w1070 can't do. If this is a deal breaker, you might be better off using this free method: kzread.info/dash/bejne/np2sp6VqpZO7kco.html

webspark what he is using is the software that came with the meter, which auto calibrates a computer screen(whatever the screen) by creating color profiles on the computer. You need different software to calibrate a TV or projector from the device's settings. Chroma pure is what I use. It takes a bit of practice and quite a bit of work to get right

Before and after look mostly the same. Probably could have just slightly tweaked the brightness to get that look.

Another huge factor on projectors is the contrast ratio. On a $500 projector, the contrast ratio just is not large enough to help see more visual difference after the calibration. My theory is you will see a larger difference with a more expensive projector. Also keep in mind the purpose of the calibration isn't always to improve the picture quality but more to standardize. There is a difference between the two. Standardization is critical for photographers and visual designers.
