I honestly don't even view him as a bad guy except for a couple episodes when he's actively working against the SGC. For the rest of the show he's pretty morally grey and works purely in his own interests.

Maybourne was the perfect bad guy for a global secret. This acting is outstanding and I think it's a product of great scripts and great directing. The story creators for SG1 are masters of their craft. 200+ episodes and only a couple of stinkers. This is a monumental achievement and stands miles above any other science fiction production. Thanks for sharing. Keep it up.

My only issue with Stargate's writing was their habit of playing fast and loose with mythology when it wasn't really necessary. It's a minor thing, and honestly if you have to tweak the details a bit for the sake of storytelling, that's fine. There were only a few moments that made me roll my eyes ("Two types of gods, the tyrants and the culture-bearers" what the FUCK does that MEAN Daniel????) However, everything else is pretty much spot on. I adore this show, I grew up watching it and it's got a lot of nostalgia for me.

@@CanidRose I think the analogy for types of gods is builders and destroyers. The builders of the Stargates spread a culture of free use of the gate system and the parasite tyrants destroy and enslave other cultures.

The first time I saw him on screen, I didn't think he would be anything special, but Tom McBeth gave a good performance. The writing is of course very important, but what an actor does with his character is what turns a good show into a great show!

This is why ball game heads can’t watch science-fiction. It’s not spaceships, blasting or weird monsters. It’s an intellectual dialogue that you have to actually follow and most people just get bored unless there’s a laser blast or a conniption with some sort of alien being.

Ever since it aired Ive always thought Maybournes reaction to Hammonds grandkids being kidnapped should have been anger. Is he what, in the US military anyway, is refered to as a 'shitbag' ? Yes. But he was still in, and long enough to gain rank, going after a fellow officers kids is just low. Besides, they could have had a montage scene of the bad guys like the cast of a horror movie as Jack and Harry stalk them.
