Hey, Lovelies! This week I am putting up a college transfer advice video. Take it from me, transferring can be stressful if you don't have all the facts. So in today's video, I took the time to lay out some tips that helped get me through the process with as little stress as possible! Please leave me any more questions you have into comments!
Verse Of The Video: Romans 8:31 | "What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?"

I wish I had found the video sooner! I transferred to UGA Fall 2019 from GA Southern and I was honestly so shocked with how different it was up here. I think I missed the mark with making friends and it was really challenging and still is. I've joined orgs that I thought would be inclusive but nothing ever really stuck. I graduate next year so, Im kind of over trying to make friends. But thank you for the video I appreciate it so much!

This is super helpful, thank you. I finally figured out what I want to major in, but the school that I attend doesn’t seem to have the most robust program :/ Now I’m researching schools with stronger programs, but I’m not sure how to evaluate them. How did you go about evaluating the PR major at your school as well as ones you were looking to transfer to?

Hey, thank you so much for this video! I've been thinking about transferring for a while now. I'm in a similar situation that you were in. I chose to go to a college in my hometown and so far I haven't felt like I have been getting the "true college experience" since I was so close to home. However, that is not my only reason for transferring. Most of it has to do with me not being happy at this college, and with the social aura of it all. (Especially since my school is a big party school and I hate parties too.) I wanted to ask if you had any tips about talking to parents about transferring? My parents kinda know that I want to transfer, but they still kinda want me to stay where I am because it is close to them and of course for financial reasons. I'm just not too sure what to do at this point.

Hey, honestly I don’t feel like I could give you any advice because this is a very personal decision. I know that’s so cheesy and cookie cutter, however I had to make a decision that was best for me and my future. At the tend of the day when I weight all of my options, UGA was the best move for me to be able to have a degree that would help me do what I wanted after college. I feel the only thing I will say is to remember that college is only four-ish years of your life and there are so many things that you get to do with your life after. so just make sure you’re making a decision that can help possibly set you up in the best way for you! I hope this helps.

  • @ashleysonyea

Vaughn McCavey academics was not bad for me at all, I just had to adjust to a new grading system. I’m not going to lie though, making friends was just a little different. Because everyone is older and has their friends from previous years, they aren’t exactly looking for new friends, but that doesn’t mean you can’t make any. My suggestion would be to make sure you are making it a point to go out if your way and you in clubs and organizations that interest you. That helped me to meet more like minded people. Idk how it’s going to be with the state of the world but just make sure to really ur yourself out there, it will be worth it! Please let me know if this helped at all or if you have any more questions!

However I do think you could reach out to someone before you decide to transfer and show them your transcript and talk about where you would possibly be and that maybe that could help you decide if transferring makes sense for you! • @ashleysonyea

That’s a good question and it honestly all depends. Because I transferred as a sophomore and was core complete (meaning I didn’t have to take any of the freshman or sophomore classes), I was able to hop straight into my major when I went to UGA. So I had classes with other juniors and if I had little classes that I need to make up for the most part it was classes where every level from freshman to seniors took just because that was a class that people needed and some people decided to take it later than others. I hope this helps.

Thank you so much for the info! I was wondering whether financial aid is less when you’re a transfer student than it is if you are an incoming freshman. I got my financial aid award and I have to pay a good amount out of pocket but realized that I would need to get a part time job while at school in order to pay for anything and save up money. So I was wondering if as an incoming freshman this is the “best” financial aid I should get and take advantage of that or if I would get better aid as a transfer student.

Hello, I'm in my very first semester in my first year in a university in the middle east and I'm trying apply to some schools in Canada. In filling the application forms, I'm to disclose all post-graduate universities which means I am to state that I'm currently in school. But the problem here is that once I disclose then I'm supposed to apply as a transfer student, and I don't wanna transfer, I wish to start all over cos I'm just in my first year and I don't mind starting over from first year. Moreover my current school doesn't give transfer for international students transferring to another institution. What do I do now, can I still apply as a transfer student without my current school's permission and still start from as a fresher or there's nothing I can do?

The first college I attended wasn't a 2-year college, it was a 4-year college and I left after my sophomore year. In terms of if you pay more that really is up to where you came from and where you are going. Both schools were in-state for me so the tuition was relatively the same, the biggest cost that I had to look out for was my room and board, so that is a big thing to keep in mind! Hope this helps!

It just depends on where you want to transfer to. For example I transferred to UGA and I had to have A certain number of hours in order to transfer so just look at what school you want to go to and how many hours they require and I would start applying when you know that you’re going to be able to hit that number hours. Like at UGA I think you had to have 30 credit hours so people will get there in the fall and start applying in spring once they already have 30 hours on their transcripts and a complete by the end of the year if that makes any sense. Basically just talk to the school that you want to transfer to and figure out when is the best time to apply to transfer
