hi katie!! thank you so much for validating that it is so okay and normal to be sad about moving to college. i'm a freshman too and moved in a just a few weeks ago, and i feel as if everyone is just so excited and happy to be here, which i am but it's change is so scary, especially not being close to home, so thank you for being real and making me feel that i'm not alone.

oh my word yes!! I’m just an hour away from home but it’s been so hard for me!! I have to remember than multiple feelings can exist at once & just because im enjoying it doesn’t mean I’m not sad at the same time!! my mom has been sending me videos she’s seen of freshman who agree, so we’re definitely not alone. tons of upperclassmen or those who graduated also say it was hard at first but then it gets much better so im crossing my fingers :)

I remember when I first started college, and moved into the dorm. I was excited, but it was strange going out on my own, so I cried a little when I was leaving home. But every year, it's gets so much easier. You also meet people who share your same interests and it becomes some of the best times in your life. My advice would be to get involved in activities and groups that interest you. I was in the dance company all through college, and meet some of my closest friends.

fuck man, i can relate hard. It’s the sheer distance betweeen you and your parents that bothers you and really adds on to the sadness. Knowing that they won’t be there in an hours notice or something. Life does give these knocks but it’s important to persevere through them as it teaches you something!

this is very specific but we also have 2 showers for 9 girls on our floor and it works out fine. People shower at very different times and you do shower shorter than at home because it is not thaaaat. nice.

when I moved to my dorm three years ago, I cried for a month literally every day even though I was only one and a half hours away from home and could drive there any time I wanted. It's just really hard to suddenly be in a new environment
