Collapse 45 - Fleet Friday

On this Fleet Friday, in between calls, the crew of Tower 45 shows us the progress of outfitting Collapse 45 with equipment. This unit is already in-service and respond to incidents, but not completely outfitted with it's final compliment of tools. The trailer was custom built by Hackney and pulled by a Freightliner.

Yeah, that's the 'me, me, me' society. Why should I break, I'm in a hurry too! The funny thing is that the moment one car actually starts breaking, others (also in other lanes) join the moment. We like to think we are individuals, but in reality we are more like lemmings following others...

@@2Fast4Mellow Very true. There are psychological studies that the best amount of people around if you need help from strangers is just a handful - just one or two may slink away because nobody notices them not helping; too many and everybody will think that they don't need to help because nobody else helps either; but with a handful of people at least one or two will feel responsible and actually help which will trigger the others to also help.

You should make up t- shirts and hoodies to sell to raise money for more equipment for your truck. I really like the red one the fella was wearing. I can't put an exact number on it but SMFR's FY2020 budget estimate (filed 31 Jan 2021) lists roughly $1.054M in grants under revenue, and that line item for the years before and after show less than $100k each. However, my old department housed one of five identical USAR rigs very similar to SMFR's (Hackney TU1982 34.5ft. trailer/Freightliner M2-112 tractor), and the UASI grant to buy and equip all five for the region was $4.25M in 2006, so a cool million sounds about right.

Nice presentation and it looks like a great rig to serve you well for a long time. If I was the director/producer of your video, which you did a very good job at, what I might do is show Collapse-45 with all the roll-ups closed, full length, get those code lights in there, then for the compartment presentation, off-camera, roll-up all those doors so the FF's don't have to keep opening/closing. On the tower truck responding to the medical aids, that is a pet peeve of mine I've been trying to educate various chiefs and city council people on, that many agencies are running their trucks/towers/ladders into the ground assigning them to medical aids. You depreciate those expensive trucks so much more quickly, and run the risk of more accidents. Run a squad instead, or a ladder tender on the medical aids. Just my 2 cents worth. Thank you!

As an austrian firefighter, i am amazed how space inefficient these fire truks are. is not meant badly, I'm just surprised, it would not be possible with us

Do you have a link to your Truck or perhaps the make and model? I would love to see the difference you are referring to. Thanks!

@@lTempasl You can see an example in these videos: kzread.info/dash/bejne/gp-Mycx8cZu5pKw.html and kzread.info/dash/bejne/laabx9yMaafZk9Y.html for Austria and kzread.info/dash/bejne/aa2n07pydLu0qcY.html for an example of a fire engine in Germany. As an example, the very first "portable lights" compartment at 2:06 is an example of being inefficient where there is tons of empty space to the left of the generator where the flashlights could probably fit, freeing up the tray where the flashlights are currently stored for more equipment. Most trucks in the US only end up using about half the compartment space that is available. Most trucks in Europe are packed to where the equipment goes all the way up to the compartment door with little empty space remaining. As a result, trucks in Europe tend to be smaller while being able to carry the same amount of equipment as an equivalent truck in the US.
