I cut the arm in 2, then welded a 1/2” wide piece of strap in the middle. Works great.

Guys, I appreciate these videos, but please include the WHY. What is the reason for the modification? What symptoms indicate the need for modifying the shift lever or adjusting the shift cable? I'd recommend starting each video, and including int he description, a brief description of the issue you're aiming to resolve. A user probably isn't going to do a search for "Shift lever modification." They're going to search "Not going into gear," or "gears grinding." The only reason I found these videos is because there aren't that many videos on the Coleman UTV. Now I just need to figure out why mine appears to be stuck in 4WD.

I couldn't find where you told what the distance was between the where the position of the original bolt and where the new one goes. The best I can figure is the new bolt is 3/4" from old bolt position. Is that correct?

That spring loaded ball under the shifter lever, is that supposed to be directly under the shifter lever or offset slightly? In the video it looks directly under, but on my UTV, facing the firewall, it's slightly towards the left. I'm wondering if that's why when I shift to R or N the coinciding dash light lights up immediately, but when shifting into F, there is about a 2-3 second delay before the F lights up on the dash. Just curious - Thanks.

Your first video adjusting the cable, did that work as well or did you have to weld that one too? I was going to losen the locknut on the two ends with the swivle and adjust them out or in as needed then tigjten the nut back down.

On some UTV's, the simple cable adjustment is all that is needed. However, that may not be enough on many others. The cable adjustment, and the welding of the shift tab were done on the same UT400. The adjustment was not enough to get proper shifting on this machine.
