    Everyone knows the real Cold War was between polar bears and penguins. Took a while for them to get to each other and while they were on the way toward each other, a lot of them died. The polar bears met the penguins around Mauritania, Africa and they had quite a fight. Being smaller, the penguins knew they’d need to have more fighters than the polar bears. The polar bears had almost 5,000, and the penguins had around 17,000. Although the penguins had far more fighters, the polar bears were still bigger, stronger, and were beating the penguins like crazy, so the penguins improvised and made cannons, with big barriers all around them. This helped them a lot and started to kill a lot of the polar bears. The penguins then came in with a big B-52 and dropped lots of bombs. The penguins were able to win because of this, but although they started out with around 17,000 fighters, they ended with only about 600. It still goes down as one of the saddest days in animal history. Because of their bravery, we can now have these animals in our zoos because their war was settled and we no longer have to fear that the penguins will try to kill the polar bears or vice versa. Some zoo keepers though are still afraid that the polar bears will want to get back at the penguins. There are also some who have said that four penguins escaped, went to Madagascar by plane, then went to Africa, and then they stopped an evil octopus from making all penguins bad.

    Yeah, it was one of the saddest days in history. My history teacher tried to cover it up and say it never happened. She even went as far as to say I was “crazy for actually thinking that” and that I “needed to go to a psych ward”. But I won’t let their fight be forgotten. The lives that were lost so Santa’s elves could have freedom and the penguins could also have magic to be able to fly a sleigh. The penguins got to once when Santa landed in Madagascar and a lion, hippo, giraffe, and zebra had to take Santa’s place and deliver presents. That was all the penguins wanted.

    +Wolfey The thing that is even more disconcerting is the fact that most people think communism and capitalism are government types. Just ask some people on the streets what they are going to say about the UssR. I mean it should be easy to determine a country...right? For example: UssR 1950/ Government type: Socialism / Rulership: Dictatorship / Economy type: Communism USA / Government type: Federalism / Rulership: Republic / Economy type: Capitalism

    *Life* *Fact:* When my Pops was in his early-20s in 1974-5, he received his draft into the Vietnam War. But then the next day, word spread that the war had officially ended, basically saving his own life. He says he is grateful he didn't go, cause he was afraid he wouldn't have survived out there. And this is why when I was growing up in the 2000s, he'd *_forbidden_* me from enlisting into the Army, cause he didn't want me to die in a war thousands of miles away from home. He'd even threatened to shoot me himself if I enlisted.

    how would America have profited in oil in the middle east... charge over and seize oil rigs and man them with workers to ship oil to the states? it doesn't work like that. nothing works like that. we went over there to remove regimes that were funding terrorism against the United states and it's allies. I'd go back again if I could. did a lot of good for people's rights in the districts I was in. no way to see if it stuck after I left, but we changed ideals for a lot of people when we finally got through to them we weren't there to pillage like the soviets did. the ones that kept fighting us were all foreign Pakistani taliban fighters the local villages wanted outsted

And all the bigger countries have already aligned themselves with either the US or Russia. There is absolutely no way we are getting to the bottom of it. That is the problem, you really can't hold either of them accountable. Russia has nukes, but weak economy, so you can at least, occasionally, sanction them. The USA is practically invincible.

    Good work! I was slightly surprised that the economic role of the Chernobyl NPP disaster of April 1986 wasn't mentioned. That single event cost the USSR approximately 18 billion rubles (which were at parity with the US dollar), and the "fallout," no pun intended, could be argued as one of the causes of the collapse of the Union. Not trying to start a fight or debate here, I just find the timing of the disaster, against everything else happening at the time, to be fascinating.

    Alan833Gaming The USA sure seemed to think so. We had a single, centrally planned, government run agency devoted to the task, and we ramped up spending up to the our moon landing, then ramped it down again afterwards. The Soviets, on the other hand, had a whole bunch of independent competing organizations all competing for funding, with no overall central plan, so they didn't seem to care as much. Though the structures each side used are ironic considering the larger scope of the debate around which the cold war was structured.

    0:09 North Korea was no soviet republic. 0:50 I understand, that you want this map to be colorful, but still it´s not fully correct: Austria, Sweden, Svizzerland, Ireland and Yugoslavia were neutral. 1:36 Thats way better, however I think Cuba should be red and south africa blue. 6:33 Omg, you really did not withhold it :O You did a really awesome job at this video, it was great.

    +The Hunt for Red October Actually North Korea was set up by the Soviet Union, and the reason for the collapse of NK's economy in the 1990s was because they no longer had the Soviets bankrolling them. As for Cuba, it was an American ally until July 1959, and that map is dated to 1959, so presumably he was just showing how things were immediately prior to the revolution. Also South Africa wasn't aligned to either side, so he is right to show them as neutral.

    Theocook1 North Korea was and is a dictatorship, it was no "soviet republic", but socialist, just as for example East Germany. Only the members of the former Soviet Union were called soviet republics, not it´s allies. Okay, I agree on Cuba :) South Africa was especially because of its strict race distinction seen as an bastion against communism in africa, so the West clearly supported or at least tolerated its crimes.

  • @Theocook1

    @Theocook1

    Just taken another look at the map you were referring to with regard to North Korea. It's dated to 1945, at which point North Korea was not independent but under the occupation of the Soviet Army. That's why it's shown as part of the Soviet Union I think. As for South Africa, the west might have tolerated them due to the National Party's opposition to Communism, but I doubt they'd have ever referred to them as allies.

  • @Dave451996

    @Dave451996

    +Theocook1 Okay, North Korea was under occupation, therefore in my perception not part of the SU itself. Otherwise: Why is for example Japan not marked blue on the map? Nobody is perfect, this is no critique on the video, its just a detail we argue about, but still: This is not 100% coorect. Actually I don´t want to search for articles online just to give you a source, however I´m very sure to have heard that South Africa was this "bastion against communism". Maybe not an "ally", but clearly a power the US felt pleasant about.

    Yugoslavia was under soviet command until 1948, when Tito said "NO" to Stalin about his takeover of Yugoslavia. After 1948 Yugoslavia was left by Soviets. So this map at 0:50 is correct because it is the year 1946.

    Great videos! For all the people demanding more videos and for Rud to upload them faster. You need to realize that he draws all of this, (computer animated or not), does all the research, commentates, and edits the video. I'm not sure if he was help with all this, either way, every video takes a very long time to make.

    RudtheSpud Also, you think you can add more about Canada in these wars? In WWI for example, the war had a huge change on Canada and we finally became fully independent from Britain, because they no longer controlled our foreign affairs. Canada also got their own seat in the treaty of Versailles, instead of being represented by Britain. Idk if I just have a biased opinion from learning about the wars through Canadian school, but Canada did have a very huge importance. Particularly in The Battle of Vimy Ridge. The French had failed 3 times to try and capture Vimy Ridge, and they eventually gave up and let the Canadian troops have a shot at it. Led by Julian Byng, the Canadian force was able to swiftly take over Vimy Ridge with very little casualties on the first try. Again, not sure if this biased information, but it is accurate. So, please include my country, will ya? hahah

    englandfootball8 Pretty sure if you speak the English language and have a basic comprehension understanding, you would be able to tell I said Canada became a fully independent nation including foreign affairs BECAUSE OF WWI Learn English or re more carefully before you open your mouth.
