2 weeks ago they were cutting the tree's back around that area of cirencester. i thought it was routine maintenance but now I'm thinking it was just for these planes.

I think it was just routine maintenance they’ve been cutting back a lot of trees for the past few weeks. They’ve made there way round to the A433 now

Users of the Buccaneer. It was designed for the Royal Navy by Blackburn Aircraft in the 1950's. Used by the Royal Navy up until the final withdrawal from service of the Audacious Class Aircraft Carrier HMS Ark Royal at the end of 1978 when the RN aircraft were passed on to the Royal Air Force. A number of additional aircraft were constructed for the RAF as a partial replacement for Canberra aircraft, pending delivery of the MRCA (which became the Tornado) following the cancellation of an order for F111K strike aircraft from the USA due to spiraling costs and serious technical problems. It remained in service with the RAF up until the early 1990's and saw action in the first Gulf War in 1991. A small number were also delivered to South Africa for use by the South African Air Force.

The convoy was announced a couple of weeks ago, it's been in the local papers a lot. Could be more to follow as Bruntingthorpe boots out the war birds collection. The Vulcan at Wellesbourne Mountford is under threat too, shame its too big to transport by road, that would be an incredible sight!

Standard practice I say as it's a very large cargo, only police have powers and ability to direct traffic safely and halt up traffic. Nice plane thou....

They did. Folding wings for use on aircraft carriers. There's a good book by Rowland White about them being used in conflict.

No chevron markers on the edge of the wing tips ? That is a legal requirement where a wide or side overhanging load is moved under the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986, Regulation 82 (2) requires marker boards, facing front and rear, to be fitted to each side of a load height is over 2.9m wide or where the side overhang is more than 305mm.

A Bucc weighs about 33,000 lbs dry. Also, the move was crowd-funded, a lot from ex-Bucc ground crew and aircrew.

We don’t have any heavy lift airframes that could lift a Buccaneer safely. A Chinook is the best we could muster and it’s slung payload is a a third that of the weight it needs to lift.

@@MoskusMoskiferus1611 They were common throughout the latter half of the 20th century as cold war attack planes. They didn't see much action as they were mostly a deterrent but did fly in some wars.
