Adding a check valve to your hot water tank could cause some problems. Water expands as it heats. In installations without an expansion tank, the water expands back into the municipal supply. Some municipalities are now requiring check valves at the water main to prevent this. In those situations an expansion tank is required and typically installed on the cold water line. Either way, if you have placed a check valve on your hot water tank's inlet and have blocked the path for expansion, you're likely to have water leak out of the hot water tank's pressure relief valve.

Thanks for the comment, I will watch for issues. I’m on a well and the psi going into the tank is much lower than municipal water pressure so hopefully it should be fine… but good point and something to look into and keep an eye on.

Shut off hw to washing machine. Bypass valve in washing machine no good. That allows hw to mix with cold water.
