Wow that tip broke fast. Maybe the tip was pre-fractured from the car test? I still have my old SRK in AUS8 which was manufactured in Japan back in the day. Also back then it was a flat saber grind. Now the SRK comes with a hollow saber grind. Big difference! The price is still unbelievably cheap for this knife. Dont know how they keep the price so low. They must be ordering thousands of pieces of this knife at once. Great review as always!

Lol, a tip breaking after stabbing a car hood a hundred times on a less than $50 knife is something I would not call a fail. If anything I have a lot more of respect for this knife now. The test you perform is cool and all but you gotta get your tests measurably consistent and your results right. I've worked on the quality control industry for over 12 years.

As long as it penetrates soft body armor and/or a human being and reaches vitals, I’m not very concerned about burying it in a log and prying on it with my body weight. I love destruction tests and it is helpful in making a purchasing decision. I respectfully submit that the log test may be beyond the knife’s design capabilities. Again, I’m not “tough guy talking” I just want a blade that will dispatch a human threat with extreme prejudice. I believe that the SRK or the Tanto is more than strong enough for that purpose. I’m now a subscriber.

I'm a big fan of the SRK. For $35-$45 in the US I think it's a great knife. Good balance of size and strength for general use at a price that doesn't hurt. I'd say it did okay in this test. Not mind blowing but it's not the best design for extreme load bearing, it really shines as being easy to carry, good grip, medium size and weight, easy to maintain. A good woods survival knife and weapon design. I wish they still made the 3V version which presumably would be much tougher. I have the 3V Recon Scout which is available now and I'd love to see how that holds up since it's so thick and 3V. Also the San Mai SRK would he interesting to compare. Keep up the great vids!

I didn't spend a lot on it because I knew nothing of knives when I bought it. Everyone said get full tang, 1095 steel and this Schrade is 1/4 thick. The Strongarm will be the nicest knife I've ever had when it gets delivered.

At just looking………1095 is great steel. But, regardless of what kind of steel you have, it’s all about the heat treat. If a steel is not heat treated properly it will fail, either it’s intended use, or completely by catastrophic failure. In knives and knife steel you get what you pay for. If you want a true bet your life on it knife, get a better makers knife. Some fairly budget friendly knives that will hold up better, look at Tops, or Essee, or some of the custom makers out there that aren’t extremely over pricey. Just remember, what he is doing is knife abuse, and he’s actually trying to get the knife to break, which is possible with any/anybody’s product out there, and any steel made.

Honestly, for the price I'd consider that a pretty good performance (especially as anything significantly better, e.g. Becket BK or Ontario RAT, seems to start at around 50% more). As for the actual outcomes, I'm not going to deny the tip broke earlier than preferred, but if I stabbed a knife dozens of times into the hood of a car I probably wouldn't be surprised if the tip gave out soon after. Also, considering that the tang seems to generally be considered the SRK's weak point (understandably so), I did find it a little ironic that the blade broke in a spot where a full tang construction wouldn't have made a difference.

Mal sehen... Grüße aus dem Schwarzwald , BFG

I have to say, more than anything else, you're a tough and strong mofo for doing this in a full combat setup and a gas mask. I would have probably collapsed after 10 mins lol. I just bought the SK5 SRK as a car knife for not a lot of money ($60 USD). It's just something to throw in the box in my trunk as part of an emergency kit, and I figured I would not want to spend $100 or more for a knife that I expect I'll forget about until I need it. It seems to have held up pretty well for the price, IMO.

VERY interesting to ponder. 3V is lower carbon but still high alloy, and PM, so 3V "SHOULD" be a lot more durable than SK5, but we don't know for certain. What I can say for certain is people in the past (Fehrman Knivers) treated 3V to near INFI levels of durability. According to the test charts 3V drops durability fast at 60RC, as long as it's treated to 58RC/59RC it should be quite good, but we don't know what hardness Cold Steel is aiming for.

If you browse through the whole bladeforums, for example, reading every thread you would learn almost nothing. Matter of fact, my brain shrinks every time I go there from so much idiocy. The same thing with a table top review. We learn nothing from those types of videos. This channel isn't for people who put the lowest expectations on the knife companies. Joe, you really need to make your own knife. I have the feeling that knife manufacturers are stuck in a meaningless psychological compromise. Show them that you can make a knife that has edge retention and at the same time does not break. They call it a compromise because they haven't found the right solution yet. I think you can, so give it a shot. But please don't forget, make one between 8 and 9 inches for me :))) All the best to you!1🍻
