I have several of these but my favorite one is the one I inherited from my best friend when he passed. He was a Samurai FREAK and the Tanto from Cold Steel was his EDC. It brings back memories. He had the sheath sewn into his inside jacket and every once in awhile he would randomly draw and throw it into a tree with a satisfying "THUNK".... then he would smile. I'll never get rid of any of them, but that one is precious. Now I need a Nodachi to complete my Cold Steel dreams. 🤣🤣🤣

@@richardallan455 Everyone knows that Lynn Thompson marketing the "Americanized" Tanto.. and traditional Japanese Tanto blades only share the same curve.. without the aggressive secondary edge. Nothing is misleading.. even the Japanese Tanto changed shape over time, before Lynn made his own "Americanized" version in the 80's. It's still a Tanto. No doubt about it. He's not calling it a Scottish Dirk or a Philippine Balisong. He took a traditional Japanese Tanto design & re-engineered it in the 80's.. almost single handed bringing that type of blade to homes across the country. Not sure what you think is misleading... he didn't claim to directly reproduce a traditional Japanese Tanto. In fact they both did the opposite & told viewers where the inspiration came from. Technically speaking.. the traditional Japanese tanto blades look like spear points.. you really have to look hard to spot the upswept, secondary edge. So I really don't know what you are on about dude.

I definitely agree about the important role that daggers filled, and that they probably dispatched more people on the battlefield than the sword. However, I wouldn't just say that about Japan, I would say that that was the case across the board, including Medieval Europe, where the armor was even more advanced than that of the Japanese.

  • @shoveledsoul

But I do own a Recon Tanto San Mai 3 that was made in Japan, which is my favorite knife of all in my stockpile. I also own other American Tanto Point blades (Kobun, Voyager Large Tanto, Voyager XL Tanto, SR1 Lite Tanto, Tanto Machete, Katana Machete (24 inch version), and Tactical Katana Machete. Even though the Japanese chokuto, a 6th century sword, has this distinctive tip first, Lynn Thompson and company brought this design back to the modern world. Recon Tanto with a black coating makes more sense for war. So does the SRK, which just screams function, and not "look at my old Japanese style knife" I carried an American Lawman in Iraq. Could you guys make comparative videos? For instance: kukri, bowie, tanto, dagger (all roughly same size) Or your various machetes?

Yes find you a golden eye cold steel they are rare as hell but about 150 on eBay when they come up you also need a Espada no cold steel collection is right without one I was so happy when they did the g10 Espada little more affordable and less likely to hate yourself when you ding it up second hand is the best way to go get them for a hundred or so cheaper

I love tanto tips alot better than drop point or spear point tip blades. I like straight edges over serrated due to being easier to Sharpen

Anyone that has ever owned any kind of Cold Steel fixed blade knows the first thing you have to do is buy a Kydex sheath for the knife because those Secure Ex sheaths will dull the blade like no other. They are also ugly.
