Cold Steel makes some of the toughest production knives. These videos are to show that under EXTREME conditions they hold up. Meaning using them for their intended purpose will give you years of service. Sure the Tanto profile may be hundreds of years old, but Cold Steel made them available and affordable to the US market in the 80's and is still going strong.

There was an older Japanese straight sword called the Chokuto that had a pronounced secondary point like the Cold Steel Tantos. The Chokuto predated the Tachi and the Katana. So Lynn C. Thompson, perhaps inadvertently, brought new life on an old point style. Anyway I like Cold Steel. All of my knives and tools are from them.

This absolutely astounded me. I've made safe non painful practice blades from PVC pipe and foam when I was younger. I put tennis balls on the end to allow for pommel strikes. Cutting a tennis ball is not an easy feat. I would buy this knife if only because it can do that.

Kraton polymers offers many of the properties of natural rubber, such as flexibility, high traction, and sealing abilities, but with increased resistance to heat, weathering, and chemicals. It was first made by the chemical division of the Shell Oil Company in the 1960s."

Hey Cold Steel, I have a serious suggestion. Would you ever consider making a wakazashi sword in VG-1 or another stainless grade? I would have great use for such a thing while bushwacking during hikes or in a SHTF situation where carrying enough cleaning fluid/rust protection for years isn't practical for something I'm heavily using daily that absolutely must not rust on me. I know it would be pricey, but I would consider buying such a thing and I think so would other people. Think about it!

Some years ago now my friends and I saw examples of Tantos and Tanto style blades from Japan and Korea that seemed to have the same design as Mr Thompson's. Recently when I asked politely what exactly about the Cold Steel design was different/original I got the same dumb shit answer from a youtuber as though I had accused Mr Thompson of claiming the all tanto designs as his own. Cold Steel is awesome and I would love to have this answered by someone who can acknowledge the actual question.

Yes, I could, but I'm looking for extreme durability, something that could last 40+ years of daily bushwacking and getting rained on. I currently have a sword that uses a very good anti-rust coating, can't even scratch it with a knife, but even that has worn off at the blade edge after a few years of use. NOW I can clean it with sword polish and WD-40 every time I use it, but thats not practical in a SHTF.

Also, tanto blades ranged in size from 6" to 12". Oh, look! Cold Steel Master Tanto: 6" blade. Magnum Tanto II: 7.5" blade. Magnum Tanto IX: 9" blade. And Magnum Tanto XII: 12" blade. Hey! Those are the same sizes on historical tantos! In other words, no, he can't take credit for the design. All he can take credit for
