OMG...the wind, make it stop! Thing sounds mad that you made it start in this weather.

Old classics like that need to be treated with respect... Winterized and put away in storage, preferably heated, but at minimum out of the wind and anything else that might get blown onto 'er!

If it takes many pumps to prime the carb, Check the fuel lines for cracks. You will lose the fuel in the lines back into the tank if there are cracks and fuel will eventually start to drip sometimes. It may just be the cold

That car wants to start. Next time, after you pump it a few times give the liquid gasoline time to vaporize in the manifold before cranking it. A minute or so. Can't burn liquid gasoline, it's gotta be a vapor. It's usually better to hold the gas pedal steady at 1/3 or so when cranking.

Nice Galaxie! What tire sizes are you running? The rake looks good.

If you have a plug nearby to the car you should consider putting a battery tender on it if you're able to, or pull the battery out and bring it up here apartment and keep it charged.

***** I'm surprised too. Good job though, glad you got'er going too. Just goes to show you don't need Fuel Injection in really cold weather if you know what you're doing.

Some people say, if it just wont start then keep on trying. I say keep at it - it could start on the next try. Or the 97th try.

Next time turn the key to the on position step on the gas 1 time then turn key to start. That way it sets the choke, pumping all that gas just floods the engine

Who built that exhaust? It looks like who ever did it was new on the job, as in it looks sloppy? I still wish I could find one in that Condition, ever think of adding power brakes and maybe front disk brakes for added safety?

  • @zephmont

I did the exhaust but I agree it does look like shit. I cobbled it together from a crown vic exhaust just to get it to pass a safety inspection. When the warm comes back I'll get it done professionally. Also I am getting the parts together to do a disc brake conversion.

Well in that case it's Cool as long as the Old gal gets to roll down the roads once again. I think the only thing I would have Done differently is used a 4 speed trans and maybe fuel injection if it wasn't a pain to install. Good luck with the old beastie ! Damn I want one however here in Houston,Tx there more scarce than up there it seems everyone drives a truck or a Honda??

you are running to heavy weight of oil 40 weight in Zero temps, this should never be used for a normal car,, in Zero temps, I use 10/30 in all my cars ,pretty much all year around ,,thicker Oil does not mean better protection at all!! i run 11/40 in My f350 Diesel and also in My old classic F-100 1960 ford he uses oil
