My 1st car was a 64 Galaxie, 352, cruise O matic, but Mom got a newer, so I got her 69 LTD, 390 2V...but it had a factory 310 rear. It would haul ass. Then, Mom got another, so, while I was in college..1979, I got her 73 Mercury Marquis Brougham...high back seats...2 door...it was a tank. 429 Police Interceptor...it was an early model 73, and they were dumping the 429s for the 460. Considering the weight, it was fast...like 1st to second shift at 62 and 2nd 49 3rd at 90...amazing.

Nice car, sounds awesome too. The huge ratio gap between 2nd and 3rd was clearly audible, i spose being only a 4spd it'd need longer legs in the top 2. Seems to be pretty fast and accurate in its changes too i mite add. I reckon if gas wasnt so damn expensive here in NZ i would look at getting a v8. Our current gas price as yesterday was $1.89 per liter ($8.55 per gallon).

Very nice. I missed the transition from the auto to the manual tranni. I'll have to check out your vids in chrono order and see the evolution more closely. BTW... how do you mount your camera so it doesn't move and you get that good wide angle from the right-rear interior. I use an iPhone, but have no good place to put it to get nice shots. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Nice car. I wanted to make a roadkill Charger, but they're too expensive now. The galaxies look like a good option, similar power and similar styling.

Try starting in second, on level ground. If the torque is good on that V8 it will work fine. First is for hills or towing, a lot of 60's automatic transmissions were only two speeds. Ford f m x transmission was a three that started in second unless selected otherwise.

What size engine? I'd like to find a 69 T-Bird and put a 4 speed in it. I'd like to put a modern 5-speed in it, but I can't find an adapter kit. But got to find the car first.

That a wide ratio toploader? I've got an O/D RUG unit I'm gonna throw into my '74 Galaxie. (Same chassis as yours) What shifter did you use?

Awesome! I bet that makes that car much more fun to drive. Maybe you can find a T5 at some point for cheap and toss in there. Might make the big ratio jump from 2-3 in that top loader a thing of the past. Either way I like it!

The T-5s are not a great trans for a big block. They are not rated to handle the torque and tend to break. Even a stock 302 can break one with slicks.

Quieter exhaust and it doesn't sound like it's overrevving... also a mild performance cam lets the engine rev easier...

I don't care for Fords too much but this is an awesome car! Good to see you're still alive and kicking out videos. I think we lost a lot of people after Dave's Farm was done.

Did you mount the camera to the right side of the rear window, or to the right-rear side window in front of the C-pillar? I like that camera angle, because it shows the driver, the dash, and the road ahead. A good balance of all 3, and I’d like to try that angle in my recordings as well. Thanks.

I had it mounted to my tripod and had the tripod wedged in the backseat so it wouldn't tip over.

Im not sure about american fords, but i know from owning a few - the british fords eg Escort and Cortina, and also vauxhalls have reverse to the left and up. Same goes for the australian ford falcon/fairmont - they too have a "left & forward" reverse gear.

I noticed that too, but I don't think it has any linkage connecting it to anything cause you can see it flopping around at about 5:12. Is there a way to have a steering column shifter work with that 4 speed shifter? I think that would be kind of a interesting quirk where you put the steering column in D and have to shift the 4 speed.

@@smw1279 ,some of the early Failanes came with a four speed on the column, but they're pretty rare.

You just need more power then gears don't matter so much. I have a 2.73 rear end in my camaro and it still has a quick 0-60 because I have about 420 ft lbs of torque.

I'm thinking about going 3.75 gears on my ford P5 because the maximum speed limit is 60mph in my country so it's pointless to gear up for going faster. BUT since i live in a city area, it'll be a traffic light to traffic light rocket.

Great looking car but you need to buckle up your lap and shoulder belts. I know from first hand that they are lifesavers.
