He's finally been pushed beyond his limit, it's utterly glorious.

For me the highlight of the episode is Rona realizing who Makoto is and finally beginning to see what he is capable of.

It's always satisfying watching an overpowered MC put some arrogant fool in their place. This episode is extra juicy because Makoto does it three times over. With Io he's like "You're annoying me, pest" and blasts this seemingly invincible demon warrior into the stratosphere. With Rona, he finally makes her lose her smug demeanor and become visibly scared of him as she realizes she's been playing games with someone who is WAY out of her league. Sophia is the best part as he humiliates her multiple times over. First he made her realize that all the training and powering up she's done has done nothing to narrow the power gap between her and Makoto and that she wasn't even strong enough to fully resist that idiot hero's Charm ability. Her entire self-image is being unraveled before our eyes. The remaining episodes in this season are going to have a very difficult time topping this.

Makoto was a total savage in this episode, I mean, Rona and Io were literally treated like children lol, Rona was scolded and Io was sent to his room, and let's not even talk about Sofia, who is being destroyed physically and emotionally here. That's the Makoto I wanted to see, someone who bullies everyone in the room in an unopposed way.🤩

The scariest thing is that we haven't taken off any of his mana suppressing rings or anything. I like how is only using the amount of power required, so that he doesn't show anything he doesn't have to. P.s. Rimuru is a very happy go lucky person! 😊 Until he suddenly isn't... Meggido! 🤣

Rimuru is actually surprisingly pretty calculating at times and will forgive others only if it is in his best interest to do so most of the time (I.e. king of Falmouth, Mjuran). But Rimuru does have problems forgiving/being lenient with those from his own world and/or associated with Shizue. I think the LN does a much better job of portraying this... Spoiler: ...as it even has points where Rimuru thinks that he will straight up kill any subordinates who betray him. Kind of like luminous did in the last episode 🤣

Not sure of the volume but one of the eastern empire arc books sometime around when he is upgrading people to demon lords. I think he also has some thoughts along those lines prior to being demon lord too. But this one I am very unsure of.

the Title they used for Makoto here is "Majin" which can be translated into a number of things based on how they write the kanji for it. and the Kanji for the title is supposed to read as the "Demon-man" or "The Devil" as he destroy both sides indiscriminately

only reason I can think they didn't go with devil is worrying about some of the christian groups getting wind of it and having a reaction to it, or because they came up with the translation at the end of season 1 and with out the light novels or material for season 2 at the time didn't have the context clues to go with devil and picked sorcerer cause of all the magic he was using at the end of s1. Be interesting to see which translation the light novels go with if they will use sorcerer like the anime or devil like fans keep suggesting as it seems to fit better

@@xtroguyver i just hope localization group dont botch the original meaning of the word cuz ive seen too much of those already. most often times it's for the opposite where Majin is translated into Demon-man but written as Magician instead but this time Majin is correctly written as Demon-man but the localizer go out of their way to change it into Magician/Sorcerer instead

this is just my guess, but i think they translated "ma" as "mahou" as in magic , so ma-jin become magic man, and it become sorcerer . name or title is always very hard to translate . and magic man do make some sense since he use magic most of the time.

3:07 subtitles said Devil to me and sounded like one as well

That whole episode you could feel him being annoyed he had to do it for the goddess, apathy to having to be there, constantly trying to get them to just leave, and that he didn't want to be forced to fight. It's been a slow series but it's so good.

Your comment about Slime is spot on, I hate the way Rimuru is such a "I'm a nice guy" character, for me it completely spoils the show to the point where even when there are good things happening, i cant get rid of the after taste of that BS

I love Tsukimichi, and I think there should really be a few more characters that roll out that are not good or evil, but self interested. A bit more of, hey I'm just doing my thing and as long as you leave me to it we can go our separate ways. I do like the Ainz parallel, very fitting I think. He even has his own Albedo and Shalltear, though less thirsty lol.

Someone take the fight scenes from Makoto's battle with Sophia from season 1 and this season while playing the music fight like the devil by Onlap.

Rewatch the last ep Big fight of season 1 then watch this one build so much hype for me, and it almost make forget theres 2 more episodes so the hype train is going on!! I do admit the fight is awesome in this one too although I do this its the taunts and trash talk along with MC being jerk to jerks hard carry the vibes of the fight, as for the fight itself, while i respect MC being cantious but still the desperate and surpise factors from the Lake fight makes the back and forth being overpowered only to overpower the enemy was so epic, again love the current fight, bro was suppressing the room and it was a different kind of fun, I do believe the hype factor would been even more amazing if from the very start MC was dropped off and just start straightaway fighting after is better because it put the contrast to the last fight and more, but while the Ivo fight did got my attention, my hype was lossing abit of steam, of course its like only the difference btw epic and legendary both are really good, just it could be better

If you want a mc who does not shy away with dirtying his hands, you can try arifureta. The anime is not good but the LN is ok.

People forget that Makoto really does not want to be bothered. He'd be happy to stay to himself if people would just leave him alone Now because people won't leave him alone and they get on his last nerve we and everyone else will understand how savage he really is. He's one of these people that if you leave him alone and let him live his life then everything is cool. Heaven forbid that you try to steal from him and step on his toes one too many times. I love that he is not a person who has the save the world complex or that I'm morally upright good Goody 2 shoes mantality That makes many emphase overly self-righteous and obnoxious

For a while in season 2, it _seemed_ like Slime would head in this direction .. It didn't.

i feel superman had alot to do with all op mc having this virtous must do the right thing if you think about it its a good message "Nobles oblige" also if they are so brokenly op they should be the ones to give the bad guy a chance it shows the vast gap in power " im so OP i forgive you cause i could easily stop you again if you try anything. Just my opinions.

Unless Sofia had one of those "I call BS on your goddess blessing" rings, and activated it, she could not have killed Tomoki then and there because one of his blessings is complete immortality at night. She could have taken him captive and then killed him in the morning, or borrowed Io's ring and then done the deed though. So Tomoki charming her, at least partly, does have a hand in him being given the opportunity to live and fight another day, and that is the one and only time where he's ACTUALLY JUSTIIFIED in using his charm powers. The rest of the time, he's nothing more than an overgrown spoiled brat who throws tantrums when he doesn't get who or what he wants when he wants. So what if he was bullied for being a supermodel. Doesn't excuse him building up a harem of brainwashed women and robbing people by brainwashing magic.

Once again, peak anime. Gonna suck when this season ends

He does not want to kill them because he wants to still trade with them, but hes not past killing if he must, but again he also does not want to burn that chance to open up trade, hes killed humans that have done him dirty.

The difference is that Rimuru would feel guilty as he kills, and any reason he would think of to spare his enemies is based on "It's not nice to kill people" morality (In the anime at least.) Makoto does not give an actual shit. The only reason he rocket punched the giant dude away and let Rona go with a warning is that he does not want to completely destroy diplomatic relations with the Demon race. The shit is even crazier with Sophia because at that point her efforts to "fight" are on the border of being sad and pathetic, so yeah he does not mind letting her go as doing so is simply less effort than slaughtering her. But make no mistake, when Sophia forces his hand, Makoto will do the deed and then simply walk away, like crushing a mosquito trying to bite. He won't try to justify his actions to himself or angst about doing things another way or feel guilty about ending a life, he'll simply kill a bitch and move on with his day.

@@ssarellas Did you forget that army- no, the TWO armies (Human and Demon) that Makoto annihilated? Where he traumatized Lancer and Sophia and made a fucking lake? The massacre that titled him "Majin" in the first place? Yeah, Makoto has probably matched that body count and has likely gone beyond. And like I said, the difference is how these two characters regard their atrocities. If you confront Rimuru on on his genocide he's say that he did what he had to do. If you do the same for Makoto (and remind him that yes, he was the one who did it,) he'll shrug and say a half-ass apology, in a way that makes it obvious that he has no idea what he's apologizing for.

Yeah, he is not a "hero" so he doesn't have to abide by some unwritten law of chivalry or some other bs. He's doing things how he wants. It isn't some hero fantasy but it will setup your expectations and then completely break them.

It looks like you got that sorcerer thing wrong. It's not about him using magic or a staff. She means the fact he created a lake the last time they fought. He destroyed an army that time as well. Makoto didn't understand it was he who did all that. He thinks it was some other guy. Though, I'm anime only so I could get this wrong

I am anime only too. What I can recall is that he destroyed armies from both the demon and human side. Makoto did not remember he made that disaster because after he unleashed the arrow, I think he passed out. At the start of this season, they showed Tomoe and Mio trying to revive him. Mio was a wreck because she thought he was dead. It was not clarified how he actually ended up like that. He looked fine when he fired the arrow, not counting the missing fingers.

He teleported and passed out right after because of the blood loss and all the mana he used in the fight. The scene where Mio was healing him in s2 was right after he got back. Emma and Mio healed him, which also regenerated his fingers.

I am WN reader and I confirm that you are right. Sorcerer is technically correct translation but it doesn't cover even half of the meaning his nickname has. The way it was translated in the WN "Devil" is technically incorrect but it conveys meaning much better. This nickname was created for him by those who saw him during battle for fort stella. The man Tomoe was questioning(ep5) about what happened said that he punishes them for straying from right path which very well fits calling him a devil.(except name devil everything here is information you can get from anime)

Some subs are calling Makoto The Sorcerer but some are calling Makoto The Devil which fits better as a title.

I was very disappointed about the first season adaptation but this one is making up for it

I'm in lockstep with you espi. Saw a few other reactors complaining that makuto dragged on this episode. I'm thinking to myself, bro, you spent the entire season complaining about not seeing makuto do anything, we finnally get him doing stuff, cool stuff, and all you have to say is, ok, move it along. I swear the attention span of those who watch anime today lmao.

not gonna lie, the epsiode was good, made me want to read the novel but the same thing happened with the first season as well. The female hyman was killed by the mc but my feeling is that this cold look is gonna be like once in a blue moon kind of situation which i kinda hate, i feel like there should be a slow progression towards becoming more and more cold seeing how the world really is but it felt like he got his factory reset mode on as soon as season 2 started. let's hope that he starts to showcase this side of his more and more and as a final statement, can you like make a video on your recommendations of novels or comics (manga, manhua, manhwa) where the mc is like ainz cause i haven't found another ainz since covid and even the author of overlord wants to end the series now so people like me are kinda stuck on what to watch and read now. ainz sama just raised our standards a bit too much i guess.

I'm not going to tell you that in WN he is completely different but anime misses a lot of internal dialogue and shows only action which makes everything look more light-hearted. Makoto isn't evil. I would describe him as kind but not good. If there is someone needing help right in front of him he won't hesitate to help but he just doesn't go out of his way to search for people who need help and he definitely doesn't have mercy for his enemies(this created a few very satisfying scenes). I would recommend you to after this season finishes read the next arc in WN. It shows how he is perceived by those who know his strength and his way of thinking. It also expands and clashes way of thinking of different characters(including Makoto) about what is correct and what is right. 'Can't I just wait for season 3?' you probably think. Yes you can, but I'm 80% sure anime will butcher all the nuance and internal dialogue from this arc. It would be better to just read WN from the beginning but just this arc would be fine to give you sense of what to expect from Makoto. If you want to give it a try then read basically the whole next arc. Unfortunately, the part I meant is chapters 204-213 but arc starts at 172(anime may not reach end of previous arc so possibly from chapter 168. 204-213 is what I was talking about but there is important context in chapters 168-176 and 183-192. The best would be to read all but I would say this is minimum that allows not to miss important context in 204-213.(also there is veeery satisfying scene in 178-179 so you may want to read that too) So, yeah, that's a lot but if you like characters with dubious morality I think you will like it.
